New to Volvo

Hi
I'm new to Volvos and I'm looking for a car with a bit of get up and go to it. I was thinking of a 2.0 Turbo or 2.4 Turbo as I think the insurance will be lower on it but what about a T5? I've done a little bit of reading up on these cars but I wonder what else is best? Thanks all.
Sam

Welcome aboard Sam.
To be frank, if you don't get a T5, you'll most likely regret it. The other models aren't slow but considering the 2.4 is in the same tax bracket and is roughly the same mpg wise, the only thing that'll sting is the insurance. Although it's not as high as you'd think... It's a volvo after all and not a civic.
What's your budget?

Welcome to the Forum.
As M-R-P says, aim for a T5 for speed/performance. that's not to say the other models are slow but for out of the box they take some beating

I own an s60 2.0t and i completely disagree with the above comments, they are slow! ;)
It depends on what your used to, but i'm constantly wondering where the power is lol
The insurance will be cheaper, but who knows by how much, as sometimes insurance quotes seem to be random. Best bet is to go on some comparison sites and put in some different cars and see what the costs are.

Welcome along.
I'm 22 and run an 850 T5 running around 260-270bhp with everything declared and I payed something like £600, I actually got it at 21 so I don't think the premium was too bad.
Tis a cracking car too, as above though I wouldn't bother with the lower spec models.

Welcome Sam, I didn't know there was any other version of Volvo except a T5 lol

I have a S60 2.4t, and it's generally quicker to walk to your destination.

If you did, you'd have got a 2.0L 10v, it would have got you to your destination as quickly as Annemarie's car. :P

Evening!
I used to be based up in Bicester!! :)
I have a Volvo V40 T4 up for sale in a few weeks should you be interested, its enough to get your foot in the door with Volvos.
A T5 would be a good move, but to insure it costs a little more than the lower performance models, as expected!

T5 all day. My advice is get a quote.
Both my current t5 & my previous v70r have been cheaper than I imagined.
I'm currently negotiating a policy with Adrian flux, all mods declared for under £400 fully comp with map full exhaust, coilovers, full R trim & agreed value policy.
I'm 34 with full clean license & 7 years no claims.

I'm 26 have 1 years no claims and I pay 440 on my 1998 v70r fully comp

so long as ya dont live in leeds or bradford for insurance. id say get a T5. even the older 850's arent exactly slow out of the box. my red saloon only had a rica 280 chip by hlm in it. and that used to pick its feet up well!
welcome!

Another vote for the T5. Superb engines, refined, reasonably easy to work on (esp the pre ME7 ones) and even the bog std T5 is pretty swift. Economy arounf the low-mid 20s in an auto, possibly upto 30 in a manual depending upon how you drive. All my T5 autos have returned 24-25 mpg in everyday driving (inc lots of stop-start city commuting).
Welcome to the forum btw :)

Welcome!
My C70 2.3 T5 only cost me about £10 more to insure than my C70 2.4 T, but then I am an old fart paying under £200 fully comp...
The T5 is an engine that puts a smile on your face. The only engine I've enjoyed more is the 6-cylinder 2-litre in my mate's pristine '89 E30 Beemer.

Thanks everyone, seems like the T5 is the one to get. I heard the early ones are a money pit though?
Post 756709 by M-R-P on 2015-01-20 08:17:56
Early Phase 2 cars (post 1999/2000 to 2004) are usually money pits ;)

TBH if you're going to do things properly and get you car to stage 0, its going to cost you. PCV kit around £90, HT leads £45, plugs £25, dizzy cap & rotor arm £50+ for Bosch. Plus various other bits n bobs of course, so they certainly aren't cheap initially. But once you've done that they're very reliable in my experience.
Not exactly a money pit, but not as cheap to run as an old Ford/Vauxhall if I'm honest. On the other hand, its a T5 which means even the basic ones are sleepers :) And they're easy to tune up...

I am 42 - my only remaining Volvo has been well used & abused - currently on another batch of engine repairs. Get a T5 - YOLO

Welcome to Volvo and the forum, get yourself a T5 2.4 because they're best or a T5 2.3 if you don't mind chucking some cash at it. PM me if you need any advice, I've got a 2.3 T5 and a D5. :B_thumb:

here we go again, why do you need to chuck cash at 2.3 t5's, mine have cost next to nothing to keep running, you have no experience to base this fact on... total tosh
Seize the carp? What has this got to do with fishing??
As diem (dies in nominative case) is latin for day, it would translate as fish day if you think carpe means fish. :P
