It's gone in to my trusted indy, it's in there now in fact. There's a few things I'm suspicious about... Rear tyres, Rear brakes, emissions. Fingers crossed.

God Speed
Hope you get the outcome you want!!
Failed on rear tyres and fuel cap. :(
What's wrong with the fuel cap? I guess they didn't find the 'auxillary' lights. ;)
Failed on rear tyres and fuel cap. :(
Why did you take a car with iffy tyres? Your more competent than that.
Oh dear! fuel cap?
Fuel cap o-ring perished. I thought the tyres were close to the limit... :(
Not bad though both simple to sort out, then chuck it in for retest, jobs a good un'!
Why did you take a car with iffy tyres? Your more competent than that.
Yep same thought came into my mind put the kitchen on hold and buy some decent tyres remember brakes and tyres are one of the main items on a car that need to be 100%
Good luck clearing that with the missus lol :D
....From the expert in this topic :D
Failed on rear tyres and fuel cap. :(
Phew...nothing major then result
The missus would give you more earache if it slid in the wet/snow and bumped something Bugger the kitchen and a new motor, divert funds to total concours restoration in the name of safety concerns (last MOT I went for on the T5R failed on tyre down to legal limit....shoestring budget here)
Bugger the kitchen and a new motor, divert funds to total concours restoration in the name of safety concerns
Isn't that like throwing good money after bad?
Isn't that like throwing good money after bad?
Hehe well we've all done that
Hehe well we've all done that
Honestly, I haven't.
Honestly, I haven't.
Never met my ex-wife? edit sorry reading that back it's abstruse I just mean I have thrown good money after bad....especially on kitchens costing thousands when I should have been spending money on cars))
Good luck clearing that with the missus lol :D
If you grew a pair, you wouldn't have to clear it with her, you'd just tell her.
Helpful.
Helpful.
Expect nothing less on this forum mate, I've given up starting thread's tried yesterday and got nowhere lol
Mine went in today, was expecting it to fail on a few things but it passed with a few advisories, guy said just get some brake pads ASAP. Not a bad result for £25. I must be keeping it up to scratch more than I thought.
Helpful.
You want helpful? try this. Stop going down Lidls car park on a Saturday night and handbrake turning in front of your mates, and your rear tyres won't get worn out. Innit Blud. :P
I've got mine tomorrow/Saturday. Dubious of the rear brakes, mainly handbrake, but other than that I'm prepared to be amazed.

Innit Blud. :P
The P2 handbrake doesn't support handbrake turns in any way whatsoever - it's crap (but still passed lol)
I've got mine tomorrow/Saturday. I've been having the same problem MRP - we're (I'm) fitting a new kitchen, so its a constant battle over my time. Usually I win, but there are always consequences. The trick is to try and keep wifey on side 99% of the time. That means always leaving the kitchen operational, tidying up the tools after every session, and trying the keep the car days to a minimum - but doing loads on the days you do get to work on it. Money wise, she knows I'm fanatical about brakes & tyres so they aren't an issue, but paintwork, audio etc is a bit contentious lol. If you can't afford a set of new tyres, I'd suggest looking for a set of good used ones. Honestly. Despite the general reputation about used tyres, most of them are actually pretty good, just check them over thoroughly. I've got a set of used tyres on my Discovery, and I bought a set of used Continentals for my parent's car last year. I'd def fit used tyres to my current V70R too, except that being an early AWD I've got to be careful about having exactly the same circumference on all tyres, hence me buying new. To give you an example of prices, a set of 4 Continentals for a Vectra (205 55 16 rings a bell) cost us £160 delivered - and all tyres were mint with 5mm tread left.

Your tyres are the only point of contact you have with the road and scrimping on these along with brakes, is false economy at best, and downright dangerous at worse. It's all very well inspecting the tyres, but you still can't what's going on inside the construction. They may have clipped a kerb and although show no sign of damage on the outside, could have started delaminating. IMO, if you can't afford to fit new brakes and tyres, you can't afford to run a car.
Had this argument with the missus. She wanted to put "Westlake" tyres on for 40 quid a corner. "And when the worst happens and one of us in in hospital or worse, it'll be ok because we saved 80 quid on the tyres?" New ZV5s going on tomorrow, hopefully :)

Yep, never scrimp on tyres or brakes
You know it makes sense mate. :B_thumb:
Booked in for monday because, even though they have them on the shelf, to get them at the online price, you have to book them online and they order them in! WTF? Good price tho £156 for 2 Avon ZV5XL, fitted balanced etc.
ZV5 is a good choice :)
ZV5 is a good choice :)
Been using them for years mate and recommended them to many Volvo owners - they suit the cars very well indeed.
Aye. I had them on my 850 years ago and was very impressed with them. Wore well too.
So you put brand new tyres and brakes on all of your fleet...? I can't afford that
Me neither!
So you put brand new tyres and brakes on all of your fleet...? I can't afford that
Of course, if I couldn't afford to, then the fleet would shrink.
2nd hand brakes?
2nd hand brakes?
Exactly, might as well play in the fast lane of the M25.
Exactly, might as well play in the fast lane of the M25.
No problem there then. It's usually a car park!
My ZV5's are 3 years old in May and I think I have more tread on them now than when I bought them :o

Not suggesting to put ££££ty brakes & tyres on

MOT for mine today too.....Pass. No advisories as usual:B_thumb:
Where do you get them from at that price? I can't seem to find them for less than £100 a corner?
Go on the national tyres website mate. Always used them
Go on the national tyres website mate. Always used them
Weirdly they only have 3 tyres for my car, all bridgstone, all £133 each.
I just meant on buying a second hand car, do you immediately change all tyres & braking materials....I do over time but just saying we all use our own judegment on what acceptable to us. Not suggesting to put ££££ty brakes & tyres on
Oh no, I don't change them immediately, but both the S60R, and the S70 had full Volvo service history, the C70 came with receipts for recent brake change (although I've changed them again since, and I've stripped the rear brakes, and will be doing the front brakes on the V70R as and when it needs it. Obviously buying a used car is a bit of a gamble, but a service history always helps show a car's een well looked after. Purposely fitting part worn tyres IMO is a risk not worth taking.
I really not a fan of part worns, there's a reason they have been taken off a car.................
There's always polar opposites... I take all my cars before I waste money on parts that might be OK for a little bit longer. Many MOT tests are in the eyes of the tester. I had a recent failure for brake pipes only to find out it was old underseal that just needed scraping off. MRP, just put the front ones on the back and return it.. The guy might not notice!!
My ZV5's are 3 years old in May and I think I have more tread on them now than when I bought them :o
My tyres still have the little rubber bits on them. :)
My tyres still have the little rubber bits on them. :)
Your tyres did more miles getting from the manufacturer, than they ever will on your car.

The search is hopeless when using the reg. Also, try changing the load and speed ratings on the search too, it's a 2.0T - you don't need high speed tyres dude ;)
.....you don't need high speed tyres dude ;)
Do I ?
You need extra low speed tyres I hear?!

It fact it wasn't coming up with anything when i tried putting in the tyres myself, thats with speed rating and load rating set at "any". I'm just assuming there's some sort of issue at minute, try again later.
You need extra low speed tyres I hear?!
Oh dear, is this more cyber bullying? ;)
Do I ?
The tyres have to be rated for the car, so no matter how slow you drive, you still need tyres that are capable of dealing with the cars potential speed. So as your car is a t5, apparently, it will still need tyres to match ;) lol

I highly rate Falken fk452's, mine need doing on the rear of the M very soon so will be trying out the new fk453's
I had Falkens on my Cougar, performed very well around Castle Combe.
My boss had them on his old r33 and r34 gtr's and highly recommended them. I've put them on our old Audi, Accord TypeR and my M had them fitted just before I purchased it. The rears have done 15000 miles and I've got another 2000 miles left in them I reckon. Not bad for a rear wheel drive car that gets some stick.
What size are you looking for? If 17" they should be 225x45
Yep, thats what i put in. 17" 225x45, speed any, load any. Probably just a software glitch.
