Yes after 14 months, the second drop kerb is going in so I can use the other half of the drive properly without fear of damage. Didn't take too long lol, just need to have a new drive put in when I've finished messing with the cars. So that's parking for 4 now and 2 over the road (not that I'll need to park in bays now) may have to buy another Volvo.

First dibs on 1 of the extra spaces!!

It doesn't take long, you could have done it yourself. :P
It doesn't take long, you could have done it yourself. :P
Not allowed has to be approved contractor with council surveyor observing ( not that that happened), wasn't overly expensive, only 1.5metre path. Not that it looked particularly difficult.

Lucky sod, I have to fight for a space in Southsea!

I bet lol

Job's a good-un Steve. I need to get my drop kurb extended and rip the fence out of the remaining part of the bottom of my drive. Local council want nearly 2 grand though :( 5 Volvos currently reside at Casa-del-sideways and it's getting a little tight for maneuvering. (Don't let James have a space, he'll keep swapping one car for another and you'll never be rid! Lol)

Why do you need the council to do the work. Get your own bona fide contractor to do the work and save yourself some money and take the pressure of your local council.
Why do you need the council to do the work. Get your own bona fide contractor to do the work and save yourself some money and take the pressure of your local council.
Unfortunately, because the council owns the pavement, they have to authorise all works. The work itself is not carried out by the council itself, but a sub contractor (I used to work for one of the sub contractors who did Hampshire Highways work). You can do the work yourself, but if the council find out they'll charge you anyway, and may even reinstate the full kerb, and charge you for that too.

Your council must work different from our's. As long as you are a bona fide contractor you can do the work. Been there done that. What they are cutting down on is a second drive.

Either side of me has a single drive, but as I've bought and put in the second drop kerb (if I'm correct) it now means either side can't have a second drop kerb as you can have the drive as wide as two houses.

Or do you have an extra wide one after new installed the new drop kerbs. If they did your work for £500 there hadn't been much profit looking at what the work they were doing.

Iirc here you can't have a drop kerb as wide as 2 houses. So neighbours won't be able to have an extra wide one put in, but yeah seems a fair amount of work for £500

Post 759523 by Jimmie on 2015-02-11 20:27:09

Ok. I would not have done it for that price.lol

Post 759544 by AcidicDavey on 2015-02-11 23:05:35

What's the point in a proper kerb anyway?! Just something to trip over or bash your wheels on.

Post 759679 by JamesT5 on 2015-02-13 12:53:55

Just get yourself an XC-90, that way you won't have to drop the kerb; just drive over it without ripping the sump. :hihi:
Bet you wish you'd made this post BEFORE getting the job done......
Why James? Having them rip up the old drive Tarmac and the slabs and tarmacing both sides on the same level. The the top flat part is being block paved.

Oh yeah, I forget.... The 'R' has adjustable suspension that goes up and down with your mood. Just press the right button and drive over the kerb..... :hihi:
