Hi all,
Thinking about getting a tablet but which one, both my daughters have got Ipad2's and swear by them, although Sarah the eldest also rated the Samsung Galaxy.
I quite fancy a full sized on as opposed to the mini, Any suggestions.
Regards to all

I got a Samsung note pro at Christmas in the sales, had Ipad 1 & 2 both got sent back with battery faults.
Note pro has 12" screen but would say it's heavy to hold after a couple of hours use.

Keep an eye on the refurb section of the Apple website:
store.apple.com/uk/browse/home/specialdeals/ipad
You need to look out for "iPad with retina display", which is this iPad 4. Do not get anything before this.
If you wait for the non cellular version to come up then you'll be getting the best deal.
Essentially, refurb is all but brand new. Comes in a plain box and has same 12-math warranty which can be extended if you want.
If you go with Android, check the device is running "Lollipop", or can be upgraded to it. Many Android devices don't seem to be up to date with the latest OS.

You must be using the wrong sort of electricity!
I've had an iPad 1 and iPad 4. No problems.
Taken into account wife, two kids and four grandparents (another seven iPads) none has had any battery issue. If you are unfortunate, Apple will just swap it for new device whilst it is under warranty. If outside, there'll be a nominal charge.

Also, depending on your needs, I believe the Tesco hudl is cheap and represents good value for money. All depends on what you're looking for, what you need it to do?

Just general use really, it is being driven more by the other half really, who spends most of her time multi-tasking, ie watching soaps and scanning facebook.

Nexus line are great and good price for the specs. Tesco Hudl is a good bit of kit too. iPads over priced for what it is.

I dislike Apple products and the whole Apple buy-in thing. Style over substance. Samsung Galaxy Tab 10 - but I prefer Android anyway. Kindle fire HDX is also highly recommended on the Which guide for a 7 inch under 200 quid, as is the Google Nexus 7.

Interseting that nobody has suggested Windows stuff like the Surface.
Personally, I think they're pants. Although my geeky mate seems to rate his.
I'm with Dave, I can't stand Apple products. Massively overrated and once they have you...
Can't go wrong with Android tbh. Samsung's seem to be the best of the bunch.

Nexus 7 for me, great bit of kit and highly rated.

Because they really are rubbish. Microsoft dropped the ball on this one. I've only ever seen three Surface tablets out in the wild since they were launched.
By far, the most popular seems to be the iPad, followed by android tablets for those who don't wish to pay for, or dislike, Apple. That's fine, it's their choice and there's now some capable Android tablets out there. Variety is good. But not Microsoft Surface. That's bad.

I have an iPad Air in a Lifeproof case. Nice and thin, waterproof, dust proof and you can chuck it around without fear of it breaking.
Brilliant!

Rumperty bump I'm now in a position of needing/having to get a tablet thing for the daughters bday.
I've got experience with the old i pad I think which is my mother's and that's been faultless but can some times go slow.
We just really need it for Internet uses etc and what ever kids do on them see I added the we bit lol.
So what's for offer these days with a big screen and smooth running.

We've got 3 iPads, usually leave one upstairs and one downstairs (can't be arsed to search for one) and Evie had hers for her 4th birthday and she loves it.
We previously had another 2 first gens and had no issues with any of them, lots of apps, I wouldn't buy anything else personally and there not expensive, we only buy basic spec ones.

In our house we found tablets to be a great idea. But that was all it ended up being, a great idea. We have four in total along with two windows laptops and a mac book pro. Each of is also has a smartphone.
The usage works out as follows:-
Smatphones all the time for surfing, face ache, fleabay and the like.
Laptops. The Mrs on her windows one three times a week for writing essays. The son on his windows one most days for his home work. Mac book three times a week for photo and music work.
Tablets? I cant remember the last time I saw one on charge let alone being used.
So based on what I see in our house to be honest I would just go with a decent smartphone.

I just got an Xperia Z3 and it's awesome :)

Have to agree with Blackdog.
I have a laptop for work stuff and a decent smartphone for everything else.
If I were to feel the need for a tablet, I'd go for Android, most likely in Sony Xperia flavour.
I have had Sony/Ericsson phones for donkey's years and I'm currently rocking a Z2, pretty much every post I make on here and other forums are from my phone.
I have a deep rooted hatred for Apple stuff, just think it's massively overrated and once they've got you, they've got you.
How many people fell into the trap of buying tonnes of music on iTunes, to then find that they were no use on any other platform?
Not to mention that only genuine or approved accessories will work with any of it, especially with their ferocious Bluetooth licencing.
Windows tablets are laughable in my opinion, a geeky mate has a Surface and even he thinks it's tosh.

Seconded (thirded?) about the tablet I can't see the point. Just get a small laptop.

The above one got very good reviews in Which magazine but is a bit expensive (seems to be able to convert into a tablet?)

I've just made an impulse buy, my first tablet :

Seemed like a good deal. I've been thinking about a new laptop for a while but I'll see how I get on with this first.

Got a 4G Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1.... Phone and tablet in one unit.
... It's the biggest pile of crap I've ever used....
Touch screen is useless as I can type quicker with my phone.
APPs suddenly stop working or they don't work at all because I don't have the right software.
No operating system upgrades within 2months of ownership (also stupid names used).
I was stuck with this thing for an expensive 2yr contract...
Now running a 64Gb iPhone6 plus, but I got it cheap from a friend. Now on a £9/month contract so saving £30/month at least.
