One thing that really gets my goat is members selling stuff on a forum for top money, if they want big money they should try ebay or wherever, selling on a forum should be to help other members out and to give a good price.

I'll be honest, that is what prompted the thread, but not targeted at any one person :)

Lol no worries, tbh honest collin, the price is on the high side but ppl can always make an offer, which guys have done in the past and sold items alot less than I originally posted to help them out. Im always helpful and honest in whateva i have for sale and always give a good price that buyer happy with.

Hence why most stuff i have/had for sale is sold. I always give members on here first choice in whateva i have :-)

But looking at some of your stuff, its for sale for a very long time, when I put things up for sale, they are quite often gone within a few days.

Colin, I know what you mean, and that was exactly my thinking when selling my 2 cars. As I wasn't using them enough, I sold them both at good prices for the buyers who would use them as they should be used. Not great for my pocket, but good for the cars...................and buyers/forum members!!

TBF Colin, I agree with what you say in principle, but traders are selling their wares to make money, and if members aren't willing to pay the price, they won't sell them, then the trader will either have to lower the price, or sell them elsewhere.
Post 761394 by claymore on 2015-02-28 22:08:17
I don't have a problem with traders, they are there to make money.

If there fully refurbed I don't see a problem with the price. I paid that many moons ago for some genuine 18" pegs as it was the going rate and that was from a forum member.
I don't have a problem with traders, they are there to make money.
So it's non traders you have a problem with. If it's a one off from a member, then again, if someone's willing to pay the price then fair play, if they're consistently asking top whack for what they're selling then, yes I agree with you, but I also think they should be made traders, so at least there is comeback if they rip someone off.
That having been said, I've been ripped off by a trader, but just bit the bullet, as A) he's not on here anymore, and B) would it have achieved anything if I had of complained?

Well I was criticised for a similar post.
Traders as you say and people should realise this ,they have to make money to survive.
Forum members don't,that to me is the idea of a forum.
Help one another

We are a captive audience, Colin, easy target for people to make money out of.
My comments also not aimed at anyone in particular - for example I'm trying to buy a Renault book by Peter Meaney cos it's got some useful technical information in it about Turbo 2's. One has just gone on ebay for 305 quid...for a bloody book to sit in someone's collection for a while then sell on for top money probably without ever being read.
Forums shouldn't be about a few traders cashing in on guys with a common interest. I'm all for making prices as low as possible for forum members or, better still, swapping stuff.

Totally agree with Collin.Whenever I put something on here I check the prices 1st and put mine up for less.My last sale for a V70 on here was 2000 for the members and sold it 150 more on Ebay. But sadly I do see some members taking a micky with their prices where you can get them cheaper on ebay etc.Nice thread mate.

A perfect example of what happens with a discussion when no numpties are involved. Small issue or disagreement, yet no descent into tw**ishness.

Supply and Demand, its what capitalism is all about.
Something is only worth what someone else is willing to pay, if that's a high price then its a high price.
I have a pet hate which is very similar though, when someone keeps pushing an item at me for whatever price after I've said no. Some will know I generally don't negotiate on price, whether I'm buying or selling. If I'm buying and not looking to pay list I will ask the seller for the best offer, if the price isn't right I walk away, what I hate is when they try to continue to negotiate after that, I asked for the best price, not a new lower negotiation point, aaarrrrgggghhhh!

So far I've had good experiences buying from people on this forum, prices are fair and people communicate well.
As mentioned, market demand determines whether it will sell for the asking price, some people just start at a more realistic or informed price point than others ;)
