I'm not an owner yet but I'll be in the market for a V70 T5 or V70-R.. I'm looking to make the move from a VW derv to some petrol power! I have a question, sorry if it's been covered already... Anyone running their T5 on LPG? What sort of benefits, if any, are you getting?... I've recently changed jobs which takes me from a 60 mile daily commute to 3 mile but I'm still looking for a better overall mpg option for trips to my native scotland... Also, is there any common faults/pitfalls to look out for when buying? Thanks Dave

Welcome Dave, Nealevo is the guy to speak to about LPG but he's always in some foreign land enjoying himself !

Welcome mate. One thing to bare in mind with a regular 3 mile journey... I speak from experience here... Your dipstick will fill full of Mayo through condensation which could move to your pcv & block it which is basically bad news. I tend to use my wife's golf for work when I can as I'm paranoid after 2 oil changes in 6months & 3000 miles. Not trying to put you off at all, they are quality motors! I intend on putting lpg on mine for the simple fact I can't see me getting rid once I've done it, cheaper fuel is the only box it doesn't tick for me. I've been quoted £1350 for a quality system with Certs.

Thanks guys, I've sent your man a pm Graham.. I will bare that in mind Biff, thanks.. I 've done some research on LPG conversions, from what I can gather you loose anything from 5-25 percent of mpg compared to petrol, but with LPG being roughly half the price it's at worst a 50 percent increase by comparison.. If my calculations are correct, worked case scenario I should expect to see 23mpg on LPG which would equal to around 42mpg based because of the price difference. I currently get 47 mpg from my diesel so I could definitely live with that.. I'm just looking for a T5 owner with factual figure rather than theoretical ones..

Nealevo has it but as far as I'm aware nobody else who regularly frequents the forum has. I've done some reading & the best plugs to have for lpg are the standard volvo plugs. My t5 with mte stage 2 map gets about 27-30 knocking about but I've had 34 on a run. Depends how you drive & what mods you carry out. My old V70R used to average 17-19 so the map & the fact it's been looked after make a big difference on my t5. I'd be happy with anything over 40 popping about, I get 48 out of a 1.9pd golf so be brilliant to see those figures.

Neal has messaged me back, he has recommended an LPG kit to use and he pays 45p a litre for his LPG which he reckons achieves him the equivilant of 60 mpg when he's driving sensibly... That seems about right if you're getting 34 mpg on petrol biff.. It's definitely made up my mine too, I'm getting 1!

I should mention, Neal runs an 850R at 315 bhp on petrol and gets 305 bhp on LPG.. Even so if I can get the equivilant of 47 mpg or better, I'm better off and I'll have a 250 bhp smile on my face while I do it lol
