So far so good. She 's now gone off to KFC to get my Son's and my tea. Anyway, after no mention of buying the R back from the mrs last night, I rang her whilst travelling today, and asked if she thought I was joking. The 20 seconds of silence after mentioning that I wasn't joking made it immediately obvious that she thought it was a joke. I'm now away until I run out of underpants and socks whilst she gets her head around it(the car.........).

Post 768449 by foammanmark on 2015-04-11 14:00:26

Cheers for all the comments above, and I know feel much better about my mini-fleet. The way I look at it is that I do approx. 25k a year spread over 4 cars, so that keeps the mileage per car down. The total value of the cars is probably less than the depreciation of a brand new car after driving it out of the show room alone. I get the bulk of my mileage paid for by work, so the R is actually paid for with my mileage money by the end of June or so. I'm on 45p/mile for the first 10,000 miles, and the Alfa only costs 11.5p/mile for fuel based on V-Power diesel even, so I'm making 33p/mile+ for 10,000 miles. It's great to have loads of cars after all........................:)

Right, I am starting to get a bit excited about nearly having the car back and am now looking to book the train tickets for a week tomorrow. First time that I've bought one of my old cars back and I just await to hear on the registration as it's coming off a private plate. The car hasn't been used much recently as far as I know, so I'm planning to take her up Scotland w/c 27/4/15, as I have a load of foam to collect from Kirkintilloch for which the Alfa is just too small.

I've already looked on their website at the downpipes etc.
No worries mate.
Let you know as soon as I can. I have the insurance in place from midnight on the 24/4/15, but based on the current reg, so need to change that as soon as we know what reg she's going back onto, and then I can make the final arrangements for the day. Hoping to tax her before I come down as well.

Post 768968 by zoidberg on 2015-04-17 14:07:21

I thought that if you had proof of the previous reg number it would go back onto that.
I thought that if you had proof of the previous reg number it would go back onto that.
Not sure on that, but I hope that you're right as that would be nice and easy. I keep checking on the DVLA vehicle check thing to see if the old reg is actually in usage again on the car. I need the new keeper's supplement number as well to tax it, but will I have to wait for the new log book or will the number stay the same as on the current private reg log book?

Post 769867 by foammanmark on 2015-04-24 17:02:51

Still can't collect the car as it seems that the reg transfer isn't complete, so I can't tax the car. Really hoped to collect her tomorrow, and I can't collect her next weekend as my wife and daughter are away so I'm stuck here with my lad and animals. Looking like being the 9/5/15 for collection now.....................

That's the insurance sorted, so now the tax when the docs come through. Added approx. £240 to our annual premium, so I'm happy with that.

Got Home about 10.30 and really enjoyed the reunion drive up the M6. She 's been parked for a month or so, but drove faultlessly and very smoothly indeed. The previous owner has done so much to her, but there are still a few things to sort. I'm in no rush as I plan to hang on to her this time around.

She drove back so smoothly and the power was there when I decided to use it. So far topped the coolant up and tightened that jubilee clip that may not have been tight enough. Replaced the throttle body cover, and put black screw covers on the front number plate. Might swap the ecu's after and try the other one.

Been out with the dogs twice today, and when I've been walking back towards Home and seen the V70 R, it really feels like she's never been away. Not spoke to any of the neighbours yet but they must be thinking that I've bought exactly the same car again unless the remember the reg from last time.

Had her back nearly a year now and mainly very basic maintenance so far. A good service in April, 2 new tyres, starting to replace as much hose as I can with silicone, before a full exhaust system.

Post 798750 by hillsidesteve on 2016-03-28 21:52:46

Still looking lovely I'm sure, what exhaust are you planning to fit? Maybe we could have some more photos please? What mileage has this one done now? I'm still on the hunt for an R like this, have been to see two but nowhere near what I'm after.

Now on 184k and she was on 146k or so when I first bought her in Oct'12. Thinking possibly BSR or similar for the exhaust but will consider all makes when I'm ready to order. Replaced the BCS over the weekend and she is like a new car, boosting and pulling like she hasn't done for a while. I feel such a numpty cos Deathrider gave me a BCS when I first got the car as I had an issue then that he thought may be BCS related. The car put a smile on my face today and I've known something was amiss for a while but it could have so easily been sorted............especially when I had the part!!
