My mate has a NA one and loves it. It's a dog but it copes with his abuse no problem at all. I've seen quite a few Turbos with headgasket failure so worth keeping an eye on that. Book figure on the NA to 60 is less than 8 secs, not sure the Turbos were ever sold over here, only imported.

The one I'm offered is a GT spec so has got all the toys, imported in 2002 by and old boy as a retirement pressie for himself. It's been in his garage ever since only coming out once in a blue moon! I really am very tempted

Sounds like it is probably a good example then unlike most of the abused heaps out there! If the price is right go for it I say!

I used to have a 240bhp (as opposed to 225bhp) MR2 turbo. Seriously quick, reliable like all Jap motors, dangerous as you like round bends, even at pedestrian pace. I only owned it for a few weeks and decided to flog it before I wrapped it/and me round a tree, too unpredictable for road use imho I'm sure you could have track fun in it if it's cheap enough!

I had a GT 96' Rev 3 MR2 Turbo (245bhp plus a cheeky MBC) for a couple of years, fantastic little cars... I even did a couple of track days in it. Don't believe all the stories about bad handling, it was more predictable than the S2000 I used to own and it handled brilliantly, and quite a lot quicker than the S2000 to boot, mine had front and rear Cusco strut braces and the yellow Bilstein shocks. Genuine fast and reliable cars, very tunable and engines are strong. I can recommend the Rev 3, having driven Rev 2 Turbos as well the handling is definitely improved! Keep an eye for suspension knocks on the test drive, these can take some solving. As it is a powerful and relatively light (1250kg I think) RWD car, adjust your wet weather driving.

I have driven a few, a neighbour of mine has had one for a lifetime. Get some decent tyres, decent brakes & give it some! It will put a smile on your face!

Thanks chaps, I'm going to have another look and test drive tomorrow. I'll let you know if I get it.

A good MR2 Turbo Rev 3 will see about 0-60mph in 5.5 sec and 0-100mph in around 13.5 sec, they were around the same as an M3 of the same day, so definitely no slouch! If it's a Rev 4+ (think 97 onward) they're very desirable in Turbo trim (all turbos are JDM imports).
