It would be rude not to go, being so close
Southern BKV 31st May 2015. Popham Airfield, Coxford Down, Winchester, Hampshire, SO21 3BD
The 240 WILL be ready for this :)
That'll be cool.
Best Kept Volvo.
Or in my case Best Krusted Volvo :)
You could write your own award!!
Do you have to be a fully paid up member to bring your car in?
Do you have to be a fully paid up member to bring your car in?
No.....but you do to enter the actual judging, Judge (see what I did there)
Do you have to be a fully paid up member to bring your car in?
Only to enter the competition, you can turn up and just look at all the other cars.
Im not a member and just turn up im sharkeys secret weapon i park next to his s60 to make it look even more clean than it already is i caused complaints to be made on voc 1 year because someone decided to moan about car that didnt take it seriously being allowed to park in the same area as those being judged
That's what I tried to do for Graham last year, he still only got runner up
I would come but it's a waste of time as I don't have a Volvo battery fitted so not a chance ...:rotfl:
I would come but it's a waste of time as I don't have a Volvo battery fitted so not a chance ...:rotfl:
It's not quite that bad lol
It's not quite that bad lol
Is there any guide lines you need to meet other than being a paid up voc membership.
Is there any guide lines you need to meet other than being a paid up voc membership.
None at all, just turn up, give your car a quick going over with the 'quick detail' (if it needs it) and enjoy the day, well worth going to one if you've not been before.
It's a good day out, I like seeing all the older Volvo including my favourite the P1800 and the 480's
Did they ever sort out the class system so all V70 - 850 fall into the same class, but the S60 has its own class? ,or am I wrong ?. So it's not P1 then P2 then P3 .....
the s60 had its own class the v70 was lumped in with the xc70 I believe and the 850's had a class of their own
What if I turn up in my S70R, I could be in a class of my own and win?!
think it was all the 70s together but not sure as there wasn't any s70's I remember
Did they ever sort out the class system so all V70 - 850 fall into the same class, but the S60 has its own class? ,or am I wrong ?.
What if I turn up in my S70R, I could be in a class of my own and win?!
Er.....no. Stribo thought he was onto a winner a couple of years back as his was the only C70 strutting round like a Peacock till he realised all the 70 series cars were judged together.
Dang! Would be interesting to enter though. Would be great to meet a few of you
850 in own class, I might turn up then. If I'm only one I'll win something... Like graham :)
850 in own class, I might turn up then. If I'm only one I'll win something... Like graham :)
Ok so won car of the year then......I think that's says it's not to bad.
They've gone one better, the S60 is in with the V60. Lmao
That's OK then when I get my V60 in a nice blue...:)

Were you laughing too much or something??
how did they decide you weren't taking it seriously? Were you laughing too much or something??
You've obviously not seen Stewart's car lol
You've obviously not seen Stewart's car lol
u'd think they'd be happy with people turning up. Dressed appropriately in a volvo too..! 'Nul point' for modifications i take it..
They've gone one better, the S60 is in with the V60. Lmao
I do think in all fairness they should have the cars in the years they are made,so you can have a 2005 S60R in the same group as a 2015 V60 polestar that's just come out of the showroom that makes a lot of sense....:cuckoo: Steve do you have a breakdown of the classes ?.
u'd think they'd be happy with people turning up. Dressed appropriately in a volvo too..! 'Nul point' for modifications i take it..
I'm sure they would like to have it as a concourse car show but only for Volvo.
Is anyone actually coming to this? I know I say I will come to lots of events but never actually do but I WILL be at this one! :haha:
There is a few of us going. I'll be in the p2 (although it needs a good wash).
Shame you can't bring the gul. Sorry I forgot to respond to you last week I was in the middle of something and opened it and forgot about it. I will be detailing the car tomorrow in Waterloovile if the weather holds out. I'm heading up about 8AM and might take a detour through Denmead way for some back roads as I'm sick of motorways now.
I'll be there, as I have to drop some bits off to Etienne, weather will dictate how long I stay, as it's supposed to rain most of the day. :(
Depending on if I get started on the V40... I might pop down for a bit.
I do think in all fairness they should have the cars in the years they are made,so you can have a 2005 S60R in the same group as a 2015 V60 polestar that's just come out of the showroom that makes a lot of sense....:cuckoo: Steve do you have a breakdown of the classes ?.
I don't because I believe they've changed a few more of the classes but haven't seen the list.
I hope you weren't up doing the car at the time you posted that..
Cars cleaned albeit quickly and set for tomorrow
They've gone one better, the S60 is in with the V60. Lmao
Well as long as they keep the v70r away from the s60r as we all know the v70r's are superior in every way :saythat:
I hope you weren't up doing the car at the time you posted that..
No I was up for work
What a complete balls up the judging was.
Again!! Was the same last year lol
It needs to be renamed BKOV from now on. Best Kept Original Volvo. Seems you get marked down for anything even slightly different than standard.
Again!! Was the same last year lol
Worse this year, I was in post 2004 cars, and that meant new cars as well. Then at the last minute they judged me against a new xc70. Even though the xc60/90 had its own class and my class was post 2004 c/v 70s, but realising they hadn't made provision for xc70s they dumped them in with my class rather than the xc60/90? Oh and the reason for the new classes is based on the cars platform, I then pointed out mine and Steve's are p2s and not p3s and that was just glossed over.
I would come but it's a waste of time as I don't have a Volvo battery fitted so not a chance ...:rotfl:
What did I say then..:rotfl::wink: No photos then ?.
Mr Borrett took some. I didn't take my camera.
It needs to be renamed BKOV from now on. Best Kept Original Volvo. Seems you get marked down for anything even slightly different than standard.
Shame they just make it up as they go along by the sounds of it.. So what won & photos please...
What did I say then..:rotfl::wink:
It never used to be like that. Plus as Steve says the classes are a complete mess.
Sounds like a good day was had
Cold, Wet, Windy and a really anal judge. Fantastic lol
The car that beat steve into second had a replacement wing that wasn't even the same colour!!
I feel that customising/modifying the car to the way you want it to be is never going to score points at concourse events. The categories sound like they maybe sacrificing the newer stuff to accommodate more of the older? Though given another 10+ years I sure they will be taken more seriously? Gutted for you Sharkey (and even a little bit for you Ettienne) I think you either need to find a crowd/prize giving events which appreciate your car and what you choose to do with it. Alternatively take it all the way back to stock and maintain it then, though I doubt you will enjoy the car as much.

Nobody can tell me what won my class or his many there were, the judge said 2 then 3 with the xc70 possibly going into the class, so simply by turning up I should have got third at least or second.
See any problems with all these in one class?
Not sure what the owner was thinking:
And, saving the best until last:

Never bothered me this event many people have asked me to attend with the gul and I wouldn't dream of it I know the car is built to the highest of standards and I dont need or want any nit wit picking over my car I modify my car to how I want it and build it to how I want it. fair enough if you've done it for a concourse event and that's what your into but to all of the above who are unhappy as long as your happy with your can and it's standards who gives a ££££ what they say.
See any problems with all these in one class?
Yep, four of them used conservative colours, one is sort of bright blue
Never bothered me this event many people have asked me to attend with the gul and I wouldn't dream of it I know the car is built to the highest of standards and I dont need or want any nit wit picking over my car I modify my car to how I want it and build it to how I want it. fair enough if you've done it for a concourse event and that's what your into but to all of the above who are unhappy as long as your happy with your can and it's standards who gives a ££££ what they say.
Exactly :)

Yet today my car was scrutinised for so many things not 'original'. As I've said before they call it the 'Best Kept Volvo' not Best Concourse Volvo. I hear what you're saying about the modifying but when they preach that it's basically a show and shine one and then start marking down for painted cam cover and badges etc it gets anal and conflicts with what they originally set out to achieve. The whole day was a total mess. No one seemed to know what was going on, what cars were in what classes etc. don't get me wrong I'm not bitter that I didn't win, I'm competitive without a doubt but the fun is taken out when the effort you put in to try and achieve a goal and then the goal is moved dramatically ruins the whole fun of taking part in the day.
I've made a few suggestions to Chris to try and possibly resolve the categories and maybe offer new ones as well. Hopefully a solution can be found as there seems to be plenty of judges with experience of the older cars and perhaps less so with younger / turbo'd / modified cars.
Nice to see the saffies represented by 2 lovely examples! Who was the dude with the wide arch kit on the 854...? Scott by any chance?
Nice to see the saffies represented by 2 lovely examples! Who was the dude with the wide arch kit on the 854...? Scott by any chance?
No idea who owned the 854, couldn't see anyone with a guide dog. ;)
No idea who owned the 854, couldn't see anyone with a guide dog. ;)
The wheels on Wayne's car would have suited that 850 lol
The wheels on Wayne's car would have suited that 850 lol
He'd need even bigger spacers than the ones already fitted!!
