My Saab is making me in to a mechanic!!

So I have very limited mechanical knowledge, but I'm learning some things with various issues with my 9-5. Started with an engine oil/filter/plug change, which led to cam cover gaskets and de-sludge, then full PCV system replacement but I still had a bad oil leak. Now doing the oil cooler pipes as one is leaking very badly. Sump drop and de-sludge is next on the list. Do Volvos not suffer with the sludge which seems to be a major Saab issue? I know the above is pretty simple by some of your standards but for me it's a real achievement.......

The sludge comes from wrong grade of oil and it not being fully synthetic and/or not changing the oil at the correct intervals.

Once you have desludged use synthetic oil and you should have no more issues. Former 9-5 aero owner.
The sludge comes from wrong grade of oil and it not being fully synthetic and/or not changing the oil at the correct intervals.
It'd done 136k when I bought her and I run her on 5w-30 fully synth, so previous owners must have used the incorrect grade. It's an Aero and should be fully synth.

Mine is a 2002 and on the original PCV, so well overdue replacing. The sludge wasn't as bad as some pics I've seen but the oven cleaner got rid of what was there.

Well, another expensive part and the Aero is running the best that she has done since I got her. That DI cassette needed replacing at £180, but hopefully that's an end to the issues, or else she'll be looking a new Home.

Cheers for the offer and mapping is my intention when I know that I have sorted all the issues, so I may be in touch.
