Hi all, New to Volvo after owning 4 Type R's :rice: but a new baby demanded a wagon. Started out with a V50 1.8 S which promptly blew up after cylinder 3's piston rings collapsed! Anyway now purchased 54 reg V50 T5 SE, FVSH, 1 owner from new 120k miles. Seems like a really good car but I don't want to tempt fate as the 1.8 'seemed like a good car'. The T5 isn't as quick as I thought it would be, I think I was expecting Focus ST pace in a van sized package but I guess the extra weight puts pay to that? Nothing a decent remap can't sort though if anybody can recommend one? I might be spoilt as my other car is a MK V GTI which seems a lot torquier and more eager on the throttle. But the V50 is a cruiser rather than a hot hatch, especially in its walnut dashed SE trim! Other than that it's a smooth drive and makes the nice 5 cylinder growl. The only issue so far is the engine check light is on throwing up an o2 sensor fault code which I need to get sorted, this may also attribute to the seemingly muted performance. Thanks for having me.

Mean looking V50 nosh! Certainly looks a tad sportier than my SE at the moment.

Hello Hawk, fine choice of motor and loads of mods out there and there not much heavier than a focus st just a person or so in it! The t5 engine is strong mine is on 180k almost now and has only just had the original clutch changed for an rs one which is actually a volvo one despite being abused and running 300 bhp and 350 lbft !

Thanks lance, I hope mine is as strong as yours. The stacks of service history make me fairly confident. I'm a bit underwhelmed by my standard T5's performance, it's grunty but no more so than my old BMW 118d. It doesn't feel like a 220bhp car. I'd certainly like to know how you've extracted 300bhp & 350 lbft! It was easy with my GTI, it has a super chips bluefin & a vw racing intake running about 240bhp & 260 lbft, easy mods & it feels a lot quicker than the T5. Just had my engine check light diagnosed by the local Volvo dealership as a faulty steering vacuum pump blowing the fuse for the o2 sensor so they're going to quote me for a new pump which sounds like it could be expensive. Seems odd that the vacuum pump and exhaust gas sensor share the same circuit!?

Sorry - brake vacuum pump replaced, ECU light out, car runs exactly as before but I'm now £550 lighter!!!!! On reflection a piece of insulation tape covering the light on the dash would have been cheaper & equally as effective. In the 1st week of ownership maintaining it's immaculate Volvo service & repair record has so far cost me twice as much to as it did to insure it for the year. :cussing:
