So after the battleship was sunk i had to get a new car and this is it! a 1989 volvo 740 SE estate in Pink....i mean red its a 2.0 N/A 8V redblock with the 5 speed M46 (i think) bought for £500 from hull with a years mot car looked ok when i picked it up. tired but ok set off driving and it immediatly came apparent the last mot advisorys were right. inner tie rods are knackered so it has a slight wobble to it. theres a nasty grinding clicking noise from the passenger side could be brakes or something im unsure. tap the brakes and it shoots hard left so the right side brakes are non existant. the tracking is out as i need to have a fair old ammount of left to go in a straight line (on the steering wheel) but heres the biggest pain. on the way home the head gasket let go. was pressuring all the coolant system to **** and i was doing about half a mile n boiling over again. so the drive home was less than fun to say the least. it has a aftermarket radio in it too that keeps going to "seek pi" so thatll be ripped out. useless bloody thing that it is. the car REAKS of dog n the interior is more dog than car. and the headlinings non existant n tailgate corroded as per the usual 700 series issues. so currently at the time of writing. im not that impressed but will just see where it goes with this thing i guess. Front Image back Image buggered paint Image some top bodge work going on n i aint even touched it yet! Image interior shot. more dog than interior Image non existant headlining Image 154K on the clock Image stupid aftermarket radio Image rear door cards Image rear interior Image Corroded tailgate Image rear load area Image B200E engine bay Image still on kjet Image and broken down at the side of the road. yay Image

to be fair if you'd read your own write up about this car, you would have walked away and save your hard earned for sometime better, seems a lot of buck to splash on something not worthy of saving imho, but it's your choice so good luck with your project mate

tbh i would also have probably left it. but i was completely outta options this is the cheapest thing i can find. need a car for work n the other 740's were worse than this + cant afford to insure the 850. all the 240's i looked at were rotten and i dont like 940's so XD ah well. ill fix it

Post 776621 by hemihusky on 2015-06-23 11:05:27

it didnt appear to be too bad when you did give it some revs n get going but yeah. trying to drive it like my 2.3 it just wont pull the same way up some of the hills. had to drop down a gear for some but i expected extremely slow. i got a spare H cam somewhere i think i may put in it. a lil hotter cam to see if that would give it any power up the top. just to faf with for the time being

Post 776622 by kmb on 2015-06-23 11:44:22

That looks a 'challenging' restoration, what's going on with the head lining? Looks like water damage - good luck!

Post 776623 by hemihusky on 2015-06-23 11:53:45

im thinking sunroof drain holes may be blocked. as the sunroof itself is stuck closed. the motors clicking but no movement is happening so ill drop it down n try free it up + de clog the drain holes. i got another head lining to go in

Sorry there hasnt been any progress posts for a while life got a little hectic! so cutting back to the chase after i got the car home by limping it n constantly boiling over decided a new headgasket was needed. turns out euro car parts were totaly useless. ordered the parts for wednesday said in stock on the site. then when nothing comes i ring and get a reply "oh they werent in stock. thursday" ok fine. thursday came and STILL nothing so i rang n got my money back as my freind ste had all the parts and i just ordered them. comming apart the car was fine and once the head was off it turned out to be pretty clean inside. minimal bore wear and pretty clean pistons. and it had turned out the head gasket had let go on one of the water passages but not to worry new genuine volvo headgasket went on and all back together. the only issue we ran into was the pesky 700 series distributor on the back of the head that didnt wanna fit in its bore but unbolting the rear cam top sliding it in n re-torquing sorted that. at the same time we replaced the plugs. rotor arm (as we broke it. was rusted solid onto the shaft!) all the seals and gaskets including the injector seals so it runs so much smoother now. needs a new fuel accumulator as it struggles to start after being sat for a while so its leaking off pressure but were now back up and driving. huge thanks to john n ste for doing the headgasket on my driveway for me! The cavalry helping me! Image some cleaning of the head. yes that is a toothbrush to clean my intake runners out ;) Image back looks a mess with the cylinder head replacement going on Image Engine all in bits Image

More updates (i progressed rather fast with this n didnt have time to update threads so these are old updates) after the engine was fixed i de stickered and de-dog spec'd the rear bumper making it a ltitle cleaner (not much) and then decided to attack the interior with some general purpose cleaner and a jet wash by taking it all out piece by piece to get the interior to somewhat of a ok standard. and well the pictures speak for themselves how awful the interior was. so much dog hair grit. sand. whatever the hell else everywhere. so then the interior looked semi presentable. not a minter but good enough to live with. De-stickered rear Image Free bag of tools! Image Horid dog hair Image Hair muck sand and whatever else! Image Parts to be cleaned Image dont even wanna know what this stuff is Image side trim pieces rather muddy Image still muck behined the trip piece! Image anybody need some sand? Image more dog hair Image Extreme valeting with a pressure washer and the pavement cleaning attatchment Image Cleaned parts Image Cleaning the rear hatch Image Eeeewwww Image

more updates! so after geting the interior to a somewhat ok standard i started to tackle all the rest of the small interior niggles that annoy me. first thing to go was that AWFUL aftermarket radio that wasnt doing it for me. the stupid adptor plate needed snapping to get it out as the makers never designed a release system! stupid idea. then luckily the prior owners had used a proper adaptor cable n nit just chopped it so once everything was plugged back in the battleships radio went back in and sounds SO much nicer going through a proper amp. at the same time i replaced the screw holed heater control cover with the one from the battleship so no more handsfree kit screw holes. replaced the leather shift cover with the battleships one as its barely marked. replaced the steering collum cover with the ones that have my stainless screws in for asthetic purposes then the next large item was the seats. i bought a set of grey 940 seats for another person but thought in the time being they would work in mine untill i get another 700 leather interior. fronts fit easy bar swpaping over the seatbelt buckles and all seemed fine. right up untill i wanted to install the rears. and turns out the 940 has a differant hinge location + latch system than a 700. damnit. so im currently running with no rear seats still. in the same weekend my freind john let me borrow his set of alloy wheels untill my gemini's got tires on them. they are "Hydras" and give the look a nice small lift. better than wheel trims. also ste had a epic bodge fix on my exhaust (that is still working may i add!) the hole in the exhaust had widened so much the sound was "Tractor spec" and really obnoxious so 2 budwiser cans some exhaust paste and silver foil. and blow fixed! the silver cord is there in case the exhaust fell off going to BKV! also bought some pressed plates (the legal style ones so dont whinge!) and installed those. had to fix a minor spot of corrosion behined the rear licence plate but ground off and re-painted so shouldnt come back for a bit. swapped the battleships door cards back over as they are near perfect and installed my half iluminated switch set (missing a few switches) to give it a more modern feel slightly. wired in the volvo OEM alternator guage that goes in the spare slots that was a nice easy install. comes with the leads and just uses the dashboards power and earth so no faffing about. light by the dash lights and finally installed my steering wheel. its from a isuzu trooper with the "handling by lotus" pack. a genunie momo and i used a momo boss kit to install it. it did need some slight modification to get the horns working. drilled and tapped a hole into the steering wheel to use it as a earth. ground the paint off the back of the wheel and the mating surface of the boss and hey presto horns work. then added the volvo R sport sticker for a little volvo ness! radio wiring Image Battleships radio in and working well Image replaced the leather gearstick cover Image battleships non screw holed cover installed Image installed my stainless screw'd cover for asthetics Image 940 seats installed Image hydras going on Image ste's epic bodge job Image pressed plates Image and the front Image battleships door cards installed Image light up switches Image my isuzu wheel Image and alternator guage Image

That steering wheel looks great, looks like a proper Volvo option, hard to believe what it came from :D I love Hydras and all, got any proper photos with them fitted?

Post 777969 by hemihusky on 2015-07-10 22:20:02

ill get one before i take them off. they were only loaned wheels my geminis have new tires and are going back on towmorrow morning =)

Post 778223 by hemihusky on 2015-07-14 19:44:20

So more updates! i managed to get my hands on a nice egg crate grille for the 740 from germany with the original "Lambda Sond" badge still on (europian + U/S ones had cats n emissions. mine didnt) but decided it looked better without the badge. then also managed to get my hands on a original genuine volvo Aero bodykit from the 80's! these things are like hens teeth nowerdays! this one needs a fair ammount of work to get it back to the standard but it will be worth it in the end. the plan is to buy a spare rear + front bumper. make a jig and mount it on that n bolt it up then work on it in a bolted position and try re-form it to a cars shape. other small details i installed the 3 light interior light from the battleship as on a SE you only get 1 light. dont get 3 you peasent! installed the black arm rest as the other was worn. i also got my gemini's back. yes they survived the crash somehow now wrapped in brand new continental premium grips all round including the spare! and then my epic freind ste haigh did some top notch work on the car while i was washing his in return. he fixed my crashed wing so now you can barely tell it has been dinged on that corner. machine polished the car using G3 showing that there is red under that faded pink! and flatted and fixed the rear pillar that was all cracking n crazed to look a LOT better. and then the exhaust fell off going to a freinds bday party =( so awaiting new exhaust + DP atm. new grille with the badge Image and without Image front half of the bodykit Image Rear half Image interior light Image black armrest outta the battleship Image gemini's back on the bus Image bonnet polished back up Image Repaired wing Image new continental tires Image Repaired rear pillar Image and one broken exhaust Image

Post 778265 by hemihusky on 2015-07-15 19:21:41

got a few new parts today from various places for the battlebus including. a set of lesjofors 40mm lowering springs. a set of PFV clear rear tail lights. a new DP + exhaust rubbers. and the automatic climate control unit. so heres some more pics for ya =) i got a lil cat drawing on my box from the states! made me laugh Image the haul Image sports lowering springs to get rid of the 4x4 ride hight Image new DP + Exhaust rubbers Image clear rear lights Image original automatic climate control unit Image

Post 778761 by hemihusky on 2015-07-21 19:40:14

Few more updates. so went over to johns and fixed the exhaust with a new DP + gasket and mid section gasket ring as all were pretty shot. we also fashoned a new exhaust downpipe holding clamp as the original mount was missing and the extra flex that was giving the downpipe was causing it to stress and crack. so some bent metal and a exhaust clamp. and it worked! no blowing anymore. the exhaust bracket we made hammers on the floor if your on the point of stalling the engine like reversing up a hill for exmaple but just slip the clutch more problem solved! then also tackled the leaky sunroof with black sealent took the front cover off and gunked everything including the bolts and now hey presto no more leaky sunroof. managed to re-shape and install my genuine volvo lower chassis brace from the battleship too just a nice touch to have really. installed the switch pannel from the battleship as it was in better nick in general and finaly got another foglight for it. so no more mono fog for me! and fitted my clear rears (as can be seen in 1 of the pics) Exhaust fixing Image well theres your problem Image its all under control honest! Image home made exhaust bracket Image exhaust joint sorted Image shiny downpipe Image chasiss brace installed Image sunroof gunked Image the battleships switch pannel Image new foglight and bracket Image original bosch Image

Yeah I agree with Martin, these volvos didn't do much for me but I'm starting to appreciate what they are, and they are looking like clasic tanks now.

Post 778812 by Dangerous Dave on 2015-07-21 23:23:54

Wow, well done for sticking at it and getting it back in shape, most would write it off... It was the 740 that started my Volvo passion, and the 940 is my favourite :)

Good progress mate, love that climate control panel, so '80s lol.

Post 779534 by hemihusky on 2015-07-29 14:41:15

Some more updates. so since last time i fitted the 2nd foglight. its not wired in yet due to chopped connectors but it now looks a lot better and not like a beater and that bracket was a pain in the ass to fit! i finaly got a full set of light up switches from the states too and removed the one that had "Auto" on it due to not having auto windows yet. also then fitted a set of genuine volvo wiper blades front n back due to the old ones being utter crud. and a few goodies from the states. including a oil temp guage and VDO sender that replaces the sump plug so next oil change it will be installed and a nice EQ611 original equiliser for the radio. my jetex exhaust finally arrived too looking nice and shiny to replace the old rusting out back system and to give it some growl hopefully, the EQ was a nice easy install just replacing the lower din unit. it takes power from the cig lighter and lights up at night! but it has drastically increased the sound quality. works along side the stock amp so now its the speakers that are topping out so they will need to be replaced soon. Both fogs now installed Image both new (ish) lenses Image this bracket was a pain in the *** to install Image full set of light up switches now Image new volvo blades Image oil temp guage Image VDO sender Image EQ outta the box Image new jetex system Image nice shiny tip Image EQ installed Image EQ light up Image

Post 779619 by hemihusky on 2015-07-30 08:55:27

Following on from yesterday i also got rid of the 740's old leaking sunroof and replaced it with a glass one from a 940 thanks to my freind Ste for being the doner for that and john for letting me use his workshop. turns out the sunroofs were ALMOST a direct fit but the 2 front bolts either side of the mid point bolts are in differant locations on the 940 because volvo. so re-drilled and bolted up all fine and no more leaking (so far) and i think looks a bit nicer =) bye bye old metal sunroof Image old wrecked headlining and sunroof. yes thats foam that someones glued on to try fix the leak Image stripped out interior Image new sunroof installed Image the holes that needed re-drilling Image glass sunroof from the outside Image

Post 779740 by hemihusky on 2015-07-30 22:12:45

another small update in terms of work done but a HUGE change to the car. today i got my new seats they are outta 940 16V (or once was) from jay who gave me a amazing deal. and with the old style headrests could easily be 740 turbo intercooler style. i also re-adjusted the sunroof as its close possition was just a smig off but no leaks even though a HUGE rainstorm so headlining is a go to be re-fitted =) better pics will come towmorrow i was up till silly PM fitting these seats. i wanted to get them in badly! Post 779818 by hemihusky on 2015-07-31 14:29:24

More faffing with the bus was done today and what a transformation it has made. finally got the headlining back in after checking the sunroof didnt leak anymore with some help from john to hold it up gave it a good scrub too before installing in the car and now the car has been completely transformed inside and is actually fun to drive again. i also got my wiper squirters working replaced the rusty screws in the center console for stainless and installed another grab handle by the driver (partly because i broke the trims!) and i only blew 2 fuses trying to install the fiddly center light without touching the wires together! oops. Cleaning the headlining Image headliner installed Image new rear seats in the light Image better view of the fronts Image glass sunroof gives great light Image replaced my rusty screws Image all ready to go! Post 780155 by hemihusky on 2015-08-03 14:50:32

another small update just as things are still going on here =) replaced a few bulbs and found out why i had 1 numberplate light out. cause it wasnt there at all! turns out the wiring behing it was shorting out on the bodywork so taped up and is now good as new. i replaced the rear brakes with the recon units and barely broken in disks + pads from the battleship. the fronts wanted to play games n round off and be stuck so that will be after my germany trip new brake lines and a grinder to that i think! i also got some nice shinys from ipd. a adjustable panhard bar with polybushes already installed for when i lower it. a lanyard and keychain cause the old keyring i had was crud some new squirters as mine had packed in and couldnt un-block them at all. some new pedal pads as my old ones were practically disintergrating by now. a nice spark plug lead guide and a sticker to add a touch of ipd to the dashboard. i also installed my oil temp guage but no sender yet due to the sender i got being from a 780. V6 so differant thread GAH!!! replaced rear brakes Image ipd ajustable panhard bar Image ipd lanyard Image ipd keyring Image new squirters Image new pedal pads Image new spark plug lead guide Image oil temp guage installed Image added a touch of ipd to the dash Image

Post 781052 by hemihusky on 2015-08-09 20:23:22

Some more updates on this old rattly bus. anyway the 740 got treated to a new dizzy cap and magnecor leads. noticed when we did the cylinder head that the cap wasnt in the best condition ever so decided that can go and the leads add a nice touch along with some new clamps n such from parts for volvos. then we also got my jetex system installed. it uses the original first silencer (or CAT if you have a 90's model) and is a 2.5" system gives a nice sound without being overly loud more sporty than modified and with Kjet gives a interesting engine note if the damn viscious fan wasnt making a hurracane up front so that needs to go in the bin soon. the car was also treated to a nice Ste machine polish that has drasticall imrpoved the color just need to re-paint the rear quater as thats all badly painted and i replaced my cracked headlight with a new pattent part one so good as new now new dizzy cap Image new magnecor leads + clips Image jetex test fit. looks good Image shiny shinys Image all polished up Image polished side Image new headlight (drivers side) Image

And im back from my epic europian adventure. 3000 miles to berlin and back in the volvo so heres a few pics from the general car side ill post some con pics in the next reply just before i set off i installed a new offside indicator unit just to get rid of the faded one too and changed the oil again just before my trip just to be certain. nothing major went wrong on the trip the car averaged 27-33mpg usually and thats fully loaded cruising at 90 through germany so really cant complain! only had 2 small issues one was my oil filter decided to unscrew itself (luckily just as i arrived at the hotel!) so that was done back up n never caused a bother again and the indicator relay deicded to fry itself. but comming back to england over every bump the car was loosing all power. aka ignition. engine, hazzards everything turned out to be the negitive batt cable has eaten through the posotive one and they were shorting over bumps so thats fun. will all be sorted soon. anyway heres some pics for now! ill talk about the con in the 2nd post all cleaned for the off Image replaced indicator unit Image ali tailgate gives issues with magnetic gb stickers! Post 783615 by Dangerous Dave on 2015-08-28 10:03:07

Thats one dodgy battery cable! Thank god it didn't cause any more damage or worse! Love the old school volvos, I miss my 940, would take anything I could throw at it, even battled on with a corroded cylinder head mating surface (when my sister in law had it). I had a spare cylinder head but it had been sat outside for years and was all oxidised. A quick scrub and pressure wash and it was useable (fortunately the mating surface was good), still going strong today :)

Post 784243 by hemihusky on 2015-09-01 20:51:00

some more updates from a very productive weekend on the bus. so first up is a better picture of those battery cables showing that on a 7/900 they route them kinda bad causing this chaffing issue new cables were made up and eliminate this issue with some protective cord etc. then it was decided there and then that why not repaint my car? so off came the old corroded tailgate and off to ste haighs to swap it for the good one off his 940 to live on. once it was back at johns he showed me how to prep it for the paint doing the inside satin black to make things easier and for a better look (personally) dont think i did too bad of a job for a novice including masking it up. meanwhile ste was preparing the side of the car for re-paint n we swapped my wheel to a old 240 steel so we dont have to mask it n no risk of paint on my gemini's. after that was done it was rolled into the workshop for the tailgate fitting and some more flatting and prepping. along with some rust removal using the rust be gone by john. we also modified the boot to fit a old style 740 handle rather than the later 940 curved one (looks mainly) also meant re-wiring the numberplate lights that i made some jumper harnesses up for. then it came the time to paint it. bought the paint from a local paint shop and ste did a amazing job applying it onto the car. has a few things to sort out/flat and buff / re polish but its really finished the bus off nicely and after re-installing everything this is how it looks now! so a productive weekend all things considered and thanks to john and ste for repainiting my car for me! battery cable issues Image old tailgate removed Image my old tailgate on ste's car Image tailgate prepped Image and inside painted satin black Image car prepped outside Image# in the workshop rust removing and masking Image ste putting the first coat on Image tailgate all painted up fresh Image outside to be re-assembled Image the bus outside my house Image no more horid painted quater Image nice shiny red tailgate Image no more rusty arches Image nice shiny door Image

Been a bit quiet recently as work picked up but im back on with a few more items on the car. so first off it did another flawless journey to essex for a weekend with the new partner and just clicked over 160K and washed all the euro crap off it from ef at last. all looked like it was going well. then the breather decided to fail n pressurise the insides and blow the cam cover seal literaly showering oil all over my damn engine bay! not to worry bought all the parts from FPF who did me a great deal and replacing the breather was a small pain in the arse with space constraignts but i got it and the crank case pressure was sorted then i also replaced the cam cover gasket that had well and truely gone. vectored and de-greased all my engine bay and got it looking shiny again and went into leeds for the day and snapped a few pics on top of the woodhouse lane carpark. rolled over 160K Image in essex Image washed all the euro crud on it Image the mess the cam cover made Image the mess the cam cover made (2) Image area i gotta remove to get the breather Image offending breather removed Image replacing the cam cover gasket Image shiny bus in leeds Image sunset setting shot Image shovel nose front Image shiny rear with no corrosion Image

Car looks great Husky, you rate of progress is amazing, it takes me forever to get the simplest thing done. Lol. I think Davey means Blase in the way that you take these things in your stride , that much respraying usually merits a thread on its own, keep at it mate , the bus gets better every time I see it on here.

Keep the updates coming fella - really enjoy this thread, especially how you just take the mechanical foibles the car keeps throwing up & just fixing it. Many would have set fire to it by now, but it's great to see you put the time & effort into this old workhorse. It's really looking rather good , all the best, Morgan

so a few more updates on the old bus. bought it some new goodies including some clear side repeaters as mine were faded as hell and not doing much matching to my clear rears and a new 130DB 12v airhorn high twin tone italian style to replace the horid ebay horn that was put on as a replacement to the rusted out volvo one. then spent a whole day cleaning and polishing the car for the gaydon VT meet. looks rather good now =) New Airhorn Image clear sides installed Image all valeted Image rear shot Image valeted interior Image valeted boot area Image polished up my jetex Image nose all cleaned up Image and the other side Image gave the gemini's a polish up Image side profile Image i got bored so angle shot Image valated passenger side Image rear seats done too Image back profile Image

some more small updates to the bus took it to VT's gaydon show and got some shots with andy's great 760 ala 80's brochure style and picked up a load bay liner i bought, on the way home i made freinds with a V70R driver flash green manual of all things and a member of VOC just happened to be in the same fuel station i pulled into! then once i got home a nice supprise was my chequred headrest pads arrived from the states. so now i got 3/4 of a full turbo interior. and i wired in the antenna down switch from andys 760 breaker he kindly gave me and fixed the verry non volvo scotchlock wiring! Its the small details i love to make on this car just got and installed my latest addition a original volvo optional extra armrest with cupholders front and back, gave it a small wipe with vinyl care too so its a little more shiny now and also cleaned up my mucky load liner so it looks a lot better now. not perfect but it dosent need to be. this car is still a parts hauler and not no show queen! some more faffing done this weekend with the barge got my foglights working after a lot of wire faffing as someones buggered about with my wiring prior making things difficult! went to a volvo breakers (primarily to get a freinds white 240 door) and walked away with a MUCH better interior for my car. same pattern just not collapsed and then i got my new shiny oil cap installed and it stopped my oil leak as hoped pluss it looks cool =) new oil filler cap Image both fogs working Image new interior Image

so through this week ive been faffing with the soon to be new addition to the car cleaning it up. remember that awful dirty old interior i bought? well it now looks like this! a pretty good change i think personally gonna look nice when its all installed. i also took some artsy shots for the album =) the old bus Image with working fogs now Image rear shot Image rear seats cleaned Image front seats cleaned Image drivers seat Image pattern came up good Image rear seats again Image

another sucessfull weekend with great thanks to john n ste as per the usual for giving me a hand with the bits i got absolutely no clue on! this weekend i swapped the interior out for my better condition interior got the seatbelt warning light and illuminated seatbelt buckles working and dismantled the front seats to save the covers for spares if i ever need them (the drivers base will be cut up and used for another project) then john helped me install my fleabay special airhorn as the wiring as much as its simple for someone who has a general idea i got no sodding clue! but that went relitively easy and john made me a amazingly nice Volvo r sport homologation only in italy airhorn bracket.it honestly snt a old jack we cut up to make it work! it has a nice high pithced loud tone to it like a italian style air horn picked up my new winter wheels from ste and gave it a general wash over. new front seats Image another angle showing the condition Image new rear seats Image my winter wheels Image airhorn installed Image genuine volvo bracket not a old jack honest Image relay location and wiring Image power take off from battery Image

another busy busy weekend on the bus. got a few things done to mine as i was mainly helping with others cars this weekend. so on the bus ive managed to give it a good wash and the interior a leather care over bringing the seats up to real good condition. re-blacked my grille and cleaned my winter wheels with my acidic wheel cleaner. then at johns i managed to wire in a fuse from the battery for the airhorn as i totally forgot that when wiring it! oops. did a oil and filter change and installed my new temp sender sump plug and connected that. i had it pre-wired for a while just had no sender and it works! just about the oil never gets up to any real temperature in this weather and being a small b200e naturaly ashmatic made all my dash lights work again and john kindly painted in my seats with leather dye making them look like brand new again! so all in all another good weekend on the bus n edging it closer n closer to how i want it =) rear seats cleaned Image front seats cleaned Image grille re-blacked Image winter wheels cleaned Image brake dust cleaned off the back Image polished after its wash Image new oil filter + temp sender Image temp sender installed Image oil temp guage working Image seats repainted Image

Post 790994 by hemihusky on 2015-11-16 18:54:44

been a while since i updated this but things have been happening still just at a reduced rate due to current financial situe! so in the meantime i been slowly getting more goodies for the 740. first was a nice genuine set of volvo foglight covers in slightly used condition but after a quick refurbish will look good and will be used through winter to stop the grit ruining my fogs! and a set of genuine volvo turbo intercooler brackets cheap from the states including the rubbers that i took and sand blasted at work to prepare them for paint and storage untill the time is right. then the BIG thing that has happened is that ive finally lowered the car! its on a 40mm drop all round on bilstien B4 dampers and a new IPD polly'd panhard bar and holy hell it handles so much better! like night and day no more ocean liner wobble. i also recieved a nice supprise parcel from sweden in the form of a genuine volvo snowcap with clips included. foglight covers test fit Image faded but still visible Image turbo intercooler brackets sand blasted Image lowering time! strut removed Image the bus high but not dry in this awful british weather Image old struts off. time to modify them Image one lowered strut with old hardware, the dampers were shot Image rears completed Image bilstein b4's all round Image new ipd panhard bar installed Image press release style shot Image the bus's new stance Image amazing how 40mm changes a cars look entirely Image side on drop shot Image new snowcap from sweden Image
Great job again, I bet the difference in handling is astounding, did you change top mounts etc. or were these all in good order?
Thanks! oh yeah the differance is night and day but the main thing (that i didnt think would make such a big differance) is the panhard bar with poly bush's in the rear of the car dont sway at all now through corners like it used to do. the top caps are ok for now + tight budget but will be changed eventually.
Looking good Husky. The lowered stance looks great, what is a snow cap ?
thanks. snow cap is a thing that goes over the heater vent holes in the scuttle to stop snow. leaves and general **** getting down n making your heater stop working. or clogging the sill drain holes n rotting the sills out from the inside out =) also it looks cool!

Post 791140 by Orca2 on 2015-11-18 18:38:40

so got a few things done this weekend in prep for winter.ste verry kindly painted my snowcap and got it fitted between the both of us and it looks rather good in my eyes! fitted my foglight covers to hopefully stop all the gritters ruining them. put in the genuine volvo snow trays as its gonna get bad soon and i dont want my carpet wrecking. and installed another power ariel so now it fully extends and dosent grind anymore! snowcap fitted Image close up of the snow cap Image snow trays installed Image foglight covers installed Image power ariel replaced Image fully extended ariel Image

Post 792129 by hemihusky on 2015-11-27 20:46:13

a small update but one that changes the look rather well i think. managed to get a original mudflap set and pinstripe kit from skandix to freshen the look up and re-pinstripe the painted side. but i also finally got my USA front after a lot of faffing about and turns out the wiring is exactly the same! just needed to extend the indicator wires. so it was installed at johns late one night after dropping my winter wheels off for the tires fitting. and i think it looks quite good. oh yeah then a STUPID disastra driver rolled back into me in traffic as he didnt have enough pressure on the brakes. and he had a towbar. so its bent all my damn pressed plate. yaaaaay. Post 793152 by hemihusky on 2015-12-13 20:37:19

So some more small updates as time has passed! not much has happened. first went to the cheshire meet and had a good time there talking old volvos with some nice food to boot. after that time to get my gemini's off and engage winter mode! 4 new conti winter tires on some old 940 alloys Ste verry kindly did me a good deal on. dosent matter if these get the brunt of the salt as they arent exactly rare, then came to fit my mudflaps on. and cleaning the surrounding area up i poked a hole in my floor. wuh oh, turns out its pretty localised so not TOO bad just a bit of a pain, been patched up with a margirine tub though thats scientifically proven to lower rust! or is that cholesterol? either way, looks better with some new mudflaps. the bus and john's 245 turbo intercooler at the cheshire meet Image another angle of the 2 red estates Image winter mode engage!
If the lights are us spec does that mean the beams can be adjusted for rhd roads or are you blinding everyone? Lol Looks well dude.
nah they are flat dipping meaning they have no bend up/cut off like Ecodes do. just a flat beam so aim them far enough down and they are perfectly legal. i got a set of H4 conversion lamps in the works to change it to left dip Ecode style eventually though

Post 793493 by hemihusky on 2015-12-20 11:56:22

been doing some tidying up and nerding this weekend. the fact i had GLE door cards and a turbo interior was starting to seriously bug me. so i decided why not at least try and re-skinn the door cards using my old seats that i stripped for the covers. so i did! contact adhesive and a lot of chopping n faffing (and making 2 right rear door cards. oops!) later i have a full set of turbo style door cards! their not excelent i admit. but for my first time making anything material wise i dont think their TOO bad. livable anyway. making the door card Image front fitted Image rears fitted Image gives a nice match now Image drivers side Image

so happy new year to all n all that sorta stuff. dont expect me to change ill still be the same miserable git. anyway more updates with the bus small ones but. still counts i guess first off my amazing partner bought me a Efan from a 940 as a christmas prezzy (as well as a new phone! well.. his old one but ya know) so that will be used to get rid of the vicious fan on the front that makes about as much noise as a cessna on takeoff! i then ocd specced my dashboard with green bulbs for my switches cause it was gonna bug me. dunno why my old phone picked the dashboard up as blue it looks green in real life. and finally i got a nice VX3 cam from mr chesh in nice condition with no pitting to replace my slightly pitted and not as hot V cam. was thinking that + the e fan may see some slight gain back in power making it a little better for the time untill i Jurbo intercooler swap it. Efan Image blur o vision shot of the dashboard with greeny bulbs Image first shot of 2016 with the new phone seeing how it coped with dark Image VX3 cam cleaned up Image VX3 stamp. and slotted for 7/9 use Image deacent lobe condition. thinking a low miler or good maintinence Image

Post 794761 by hemihusky on 2016-01-10 15:12:29

few more updates on the 740 installed a under bonnet light from a GLE mainly cause i hate how they just left the wire dangling like "you couldve had this. but you bought a SE didnt you. poverty spec ****!" swapped the VX3 cam in witch gave a nice power band addition past 3K but makes it run a LOT smoother after setting the dizzy timing correctly. while i was at it decided to wet flat my volvo logos back shiny as why not the corroded look was annoying me, finished installing my load liner to give it that proper estate look just need to re-tention to spring as its loosing its reel back, and then my new dashboard from the states arrived! this has the rare setup of oil temp gauge left and oil pressure right. also included all the senders and the same day my original NOS HT170 kit from germany arrived but turns out late door cards arent compatable with early speaker grilles so thats the next on the list. also got a NOS grille bracket to replace my buggered one. installed all the oil pressure gauge milarkey that was a small pain in the rear with the senders adapter and such but in the end its on and working. some more small updates done. think this weekend the leak on my glass sunroof has been sorted thanks to the help from john. after getting the glass out that turned out to be 4 8mm bolts when the 940 haynes says "take it to a dealer" my arse! took the edge seal off and found a lot of water underneeth the glass on the inside. so gunked it up with locktite stuff and re-installed and hasnt leaked yet. just because we couldnt streach the seal all the way back to its original possition there is a gap and thats whistling but not to worry. it also saw its first snow in my ownership and looks at home in the white stuff. also finally my conti winters have come into use. was starting to thing it was a waste of money this year! sunroof out Image edge seal off awaiting re-sealing Image first snow of the year its seen with me! hey everyone! been a while i know but some more things have been going on with the old bus. so at long last got my pinging issue sorted new knock sensor fitted and it still pinged. tested the wires wernt broken. and tried conti testing the old knock sensor. that it didnt like! oops then checked my timing, turns out it was set at 20 as a base and was just advancing it into oblivion so set it to 10 and now runs fine (spec is 12 but i couldnt get it that good) fitted my turbo bricks sticker cause why not, got my new speakers for it some pioneer coaxal 3 ways to uprate the sound system slightly, also got my hands on ANOTHER set of ht170 NOS speaker grilles for the rear doors. and heres my main find a set of 1988 early style 740 door cards. they arent in too bad condition some dents, damage and slight wrinkling on the passenger side but all fixable. got them all installed with my new speakers mounted in temporarily untill i can make a proper mounting system for them. and also got some nice new headlight protectors to modify to make work with my USA lights to protect them from stones on my autobhan trips. new knock sensor Image turbobricks sticker installed Image new pioneers turned up Image out of the box Image with the grilles removed Image HT170 grilles Image old style door cards Image 1988 date code, last of the old style Image general mess of speakers grilles and trim! some more faffing has been done over the prior weeks and such to the car gave it a good wash + polish showing that the red still looks good after 28 years! original paint on the bonnet. i also brought my original volvo bodykit over to johns with my spare bumpers to start work on. its bashed up but not so far gone its unsavable. we made a strenghtening piece for the bottom of the bumper to make it keep shape. crafted by john H pidgion ££££ welded by me! but once bonded in it works a treat. also got my new badges for the rear. found a nice little "Injection" badge that i think is off a 360 to give it a period sporty look as i cant put a fake turbo badge on when its not. but dont want just 740 or 740 SE. so once again john helped with the paint side flatting and buffed the main part while i hand did the areas inaccessable by machine. looks nice with the new badges on. i also managed to break my airbox lid annoyingly and seeing how i had no spare. nor can i find a uncracked one off to halfrauds i went for a chav filter. cause even chav filtered air is better than unfiltered air, so made a small L bracket for it utilising the original volvo studs in the engine bay n jobs a good one. gives a hilarious sound to it too on WOT, so yeah just thought id post up that stuff is still happening to the old red hunk o junk. so thought id update this to show i am doing something with this car despite the 240! also im slowly going through re-doing the pictures to permalinks meaning all pictures will work again soon for those who want to look back at the progress. anyway what have i done since badging it up? well i bought a original cassette tape holder accessory cheap nice little period touch i find it fun. replaced my exhaust front silencer as santa pod killed it with the launches i think, used it as a small parts van helping with Ste's headgasket job. then crashed the door into a tree =( had the door open by accident and reversed caught the tree and bent it round bending the door good n proper. sourced a replacement door already though so not all hope is lost, also bought some genuine gaskets oil filters and some oil for a long overdue service! cassette deck holder Image installed Image needs some tapes now Image exhaust silencer whoops Image new silencer to go on Image parts van duties Image and ££££££££ Image long overdue service! this one will be a double post due to the ammount of pics (and limit on some forums) so bear with me. ive been doing things to the 740 just got out of habbit of updating on here! so, whats been going on, well first the 740 got pressed into parts van service once again fetching a coffin nose bonnet for my 245/265 project thingy, once back treated it to a oil change and cam cover gasket change that stopped my leak from the top but i still got a leak around the water pump area. my guess the oil feed dowell is leaking through the head gasket. something i cant be bothered fixing currently! jacked it up as the MOT was immiment looking for rust and oh dear. rusty rust all over the shop, holes in places and rust in nearly every seam! so the long term view on this shell is maybe it wont make it. but more on that later. went and got a LPG kit and cruise control from a breakers 940 for use in the 7 turbo project and then gave it a good wash. thats all for this update more in a moment! parts mission ready to go Image with a bonnet on the roof ready to go Image oil and cam cover gasket change Image started the rust finding mission Image inner arch not looking great Image control arm mounting rust Image big hole in my floor Image breaker 940 parts gathering Image gave the engine bay a clean Image cleaned the load cover and rear area Image rear seats cleaned Image fronts done Image front chrome tarted up Image nonturbo brick Image

Post 800398 by hemihusky on 2016-05-01 22:56:50

so after that. got my new CR-824 radio from australia for my eventual 780 style radio setup. gave it a wash and polish for the VT show at IK classics, modified my load liner to stop knocking it off my home made pegs over speed bumps and fixed the cover itself as it was all comming apart thanks to john for helping with a glue! hit over 170K and had some nice beading from polishing, then came the big rust repairs. cut all the major rust out and welded a patch in, managed to pass a MOT with that but the long term idea of this shell may not due to the sea life its lived. but i have a 940 non rusty shell in storage now. that will eventually become this car, only issue is its metalic red and its got no sunroof! then i got a new antenna ariel and some badges. its all about the small details. rear cleaned Image new badges looking ok cleaned Image overall shot Image CR-824 radio Image got the code from a american dealer powered up n works fine! Post 802008 by hemihusky on 2016-06-12 22:12:05

this one will be a 2 parter as its been a while since i updated it! so since the last update the car has been mainly just being the daily hack as its been doing good at, cleaned it and got some shots at the local asda, got some new lesfjors boot struts so now it dosent hit me on the head every 2 secconds! hauled johns new rebuilt axle and old 940 axle back to his house. went to kierens and swapped the non dented door he kindly donated to me and i think the color will come closer with polishing, the centeral locking required wires lenghtening then decided to die after i got it hooked up, power going to the motor but jack all is happening, grrrr and de-pinstriped the whole car with a heat gun n filler spreader in the rain at 9pm the night before confuzzled. what a life eh? got it all cleaned for cfz loaded up n set sail. breezed down to birmingham like it was nothing doing about 28 to the gallon not bad for a 2.0 being proper beaten on by me! and loaded up more to follow cleaned the bus Image back shot Image trains! Image new tailgate struts Image axle hauling Image another wash and polish Image door replaced, window held up with tape as we needed to swap the glass to use my 740 electric window regs as their a differant style! Post 802009 by hemihusky on 2016-06-12 22:19:10

after that met another volvo freind at cfz with a S60 T5, spaceball shifter and a original volvo car phone quite nice spec so obiously park next to him, then it was time to go home sadly, once again made it back easy as pie. then back to chilling in the works car park with the boring cars, then drove to birmingham to collect more parts for my car and johns car when going down it was like end of the world rain floods all over the place and couldnt even see the end of my bonnet, but still breezed it the cig lighter came loose and blew a fuse but easy fix. got all my bulbs working that blew during the fuse pop by accident, then did my engine mounts as it turns out, one side was not much of a mount anymore the cap came off when i jacked the engine, cleaned everything up and re-installed then went cruising as the sun sets. so yeah the 740's still going just being the daily van. 2 volvos at cfz Image old and new! right another lil update to this, seeing how its been a while. firstly replaced the rather corroding and bubling 740 side bump strips with 940 ones, what a pain that was a volvo put the pegs that hold them onto the door in differant places so they had to be "modified", with a dremel. gave it a good old wash for a show at woodvale, good classic car show and some nice volvos on our stand, made a small RWD section all spanning from west yorkshire too, 2 bradford 2 huddersfield 1 leeds, got a set of 440 gauges to put into my lower 780 radio box section (yes that ideas still going ahead, battling customs atm) got some 740 turbo badges for the eventual transformation, fitted a pro parts sweden splash tray as it being missing was causing one hell of a mess in the engine bay, and then i got a new gearbox mount to try solve the rattle thats happening. so not a huge update but ya know, still plodding along. bump strips replaced Image cleaned for the show Image front end all re-blacked Image ready to rock and roll Image fear the injection. been a while since i updated this thread! so a long overdue one i think as its just been doing daily duties if im honest. so in the time its been on hiatus i replaced the M47 gearbox rubber mount mainly as the old one was sagging to hell and i thought originally it was the cause of one of the rattles thats plauged my car from buying it. but it turns out it wasnt. now thinking prop center bearing is on its way out slowly. also helps when you tighten the bolts for the mounting as a few days later there was one hell of a buzz. as the bolt rattled against the crossmember doh! also replaced the cambelt before a large yearly trip. mainly for peace of mind the old belt didnt look like it was a shoe string but better safe than sorry. got some nice used sil covers from america for the car to give it a slightly higher class look but will be used in the MK2 version of this build most likely. the car stood up to the hammering through the summer with no oil pressure issues at all in the blazing heat, got some rare tweeters for the dashboard from sweden for my ultimate accessory build up. got some badges ready for the reincarnation and rupert kindly donated his old 440 turbo gauges that fit in the lower slot of a 780 radio setup thats where these will be but with turbo and alternator rather than economy gauge. bought a polis pannel from sweden for extra switches by the rear view mirror that only works with non sunroof cars. gives a small clue about the V2 of this car. then it had my yearly trip to germany. from huddersfield to hull. over to nurburg for the oldtimer grand prix. back to breda holland to pick up a freind. then up to berlin. and all the way back to dunkirkue and up the country. car help up perfect even doing some high speed 100+ runs and keeping up with johns turbo 245. once it was home it got one hell of a clean to get all the flies and grime off the car. treated it to some nice good condition orange lights as i sorta prefer the retro look now. and then recently my coolant gauge died so i replaced it with the unit from my old GLE. all working but thats about it for now! another update gonna be quite a large double update as i havent been keeping up with this car. poor 740! anyway. after fixing the coolant temp gauge i came home to a nice package from a swedish freind. that includes a good condition genuine volvo 3rd brakelight spoiler for the 7. outside air temp gauge kit that im going to modify into a place. nor will it read outside air temp. a set of map reading lights for the rear passengers 760 style and a blue aux lights switch for my winter time running lamps. then gave the car a nice valet and re-blacked all the trim just in time for it to snow in leeds! yep. fully snowed over for a few day and it ruined all my cleaning work! then fitted my genuine volvo sill protector covers gives a bit of a nicer touch when the doors open and my volvo internal wind deflectors i also got from sweden. then finally i found a R sport style horn button in my box of 240 parts that john hughes kindly modified for me to fit into the isuzu steering wheel like his is. makes it look a lot more quality item rather than a sticker. i also started to prep my brakelight spoiler for instalation but more on that next post. gauges apart for fixing Image coolant temp guage fixed slowly rising Image package from sweden Image outside temp gauge Image map lights switch and temp gauge sender Image brakelight spoiler Image cleaned the 740 Image snowed over Image snowed over back view Image at work in the sleet n snow Image rear sill protector installed Image front sill protector installed Image internal wind deflector installed Image R sport horn button i found Image spoiler prep Image

continuing on a big thanks to john hughes for helping me fit my spoiler. peeling the old tape off was "fun" in the same way that eating a box full of nails is. touched it up slightly and then we had to think of a fitting solution as i didnt have the original volvo U clamps. so john drilled the tailgate and we used a nut and bolt + double sided tape to install the spoiler. quite a secure mounting system with no worry of comming off. took the feed for the extra brake light from the 3rd brake light feed on the main connector inside the car, seam sealered all the bolt points so my tailgate wont corrode out and will paint it once its dried properly. then gave the 740 a good wash outside and in for its continued good service so far. 180K now and still going strong. embossed horn button installed Image spoiler test fitting Image spoiler test fitting Image mounting system. will clean it up when its dry Image all cleaned and showing the new spoiler Image nice and shiny once again Image side shot i like it a lot more with the spoiler Image front end all cleaned Image interior cleaned Image brake light operation Image

another small update on the 7 as im slowly forcing myself to do some things to it even though its life is a bit limited. got a small package from sweden containing my genuine volvo roma steering wheel r sport boss and a coin holder full of swedish crowns for the 740. installed that on a briskly cold day and personaly i love it a lot more than my old wheel then replaced the oil temp gauge that died with my volt gauge so at least i got something there that works. john h kindly assisted me in taking the old corroded ££££ty trim off the 7 and repainting it a nice black makes it look a lot more presentable now gave it a good wash with all this salt on the roads lately and installed my coin tray during the week =) steering wheel, boss and coin holder Image warming up the 740 and de-icing it Image roma wheel installed Image volt gauge installed Image painted the trim Image parked next to the 240 Image all washed off Image coin holder installed with swedish crowns too Image top down view Image

more updates to the 7 thread! so apart from a lot of cleaning, curse the winter weather! i canabalised a 240 tape deck holder to fix my rarer 7 one and make my center console look nice once again, leather fed my gear shift cover from the back + front made it a lot softer and looks better as it was really starting to dry up. Installed my blue spotlamp switch i need to get the lamps here yet but for now the switch can sit there, painted my grey 960 map lights black and with help from john H installed them in the 740. nicely volvo had put a mark on the rear of the trim to show where they needed to be cut out =) and stuck my HT164 tweeters down to the dashboard the wires are routed but standard from volvo has them spliced into the standard speaker wires. i decided this would make them sound horid so a crossover is on order to make them only take the high end frequency (on another note i am going back updating all pictures so they will work, give me some time!) outside the chip shop lookin smart Image461 by ramawson, on Flickr christmas shot Image462 by ramawson, on Flickr time to rip apart one to fix the other Image463 by ramawson, on Flickr all fixed Image464 by ramawson, on Flickr another cleaned shot Image465 by ramawson, on Flickr gear shift cover leather fed Image466 by ramawson, on Flickr sat out in the corner Image467 by ramawson, on Flickr switch installed Image468 by ramawson, on Flickr map lights painted Image469 by ramawson, on Flickr HT 164 tweeters installed Image470 by ramawson, on Flickr map lights in the trims Image471 by ramawson, on Flickr and in the car Image472 by ramawson, on Flickr

been a while since i updated this thread so theres a lot of catching up to do ill do over the next few days, ive been slacking mainly due to life getting in the way, but things have still been done to the 740! so after the prior stuff it was pressed into its winter service running. getting rather mucky n reminding me how bad sealed beams are when they get mucky i couldnt see a damn thing! but it completed a long trip down to essex to see the partner and back flawlessly as usual, once back i got a package from my american freind that included some nicer seals for my USA quads to stop the condensation forming in the parking lights and indicators. and another CR702 radio as my current one died. but after a while this radio turned out to be as bad as the other one so it got removed and pillaged for parts, bought some random odds n ends to treat it in the meantime including a NOS headlight knob as mine was badly worn another hazzard switch cover as mine broke and a ticket holder as i broke that installing the map lights. so did that one weekend and also made a 740 freind over at johns workshop turns out its a local car to us, 90's front 740 GLE yucky salt Image473 by ramawson, on Flickr holy mucky sealed beams Image474 by ramawson, on Flickr 183K still going strong Image475 by ramawson, on Flickr almost home from the trip to essex Image476 by ramawson, on Flickr mucky mucky Image477 by ramawson, on Flickr salt streaks gallore Image478 by ramawson, on Flickr better USA quad seals Image479 by ramawson, on Flickr the replacement not so great CR702 Image480 by ramawson, on Flickr odds n ends Image481 by ramawson, on Flickr switch installed Image482 by ramawson, on Flickr old busted cover Image483 by ramawson, on Flickr radio in for the brief time (few days) Image484 by ramawson, on Flickr switch cover works Image485 by ramawson, on Flickr 740 freind Image486 by ramawson, on Flickr replaced ticket holder Image487 by ramawson, on Flickr

following on from the prior update gave the car a wash and took it to a northern retro meet starting at the market in huddersfield then over to the highway man cafe and to ik classics and apart from the field getting us all stuck it was a good day n some nice cars spotted. then inbetween the winter driving i took some fancy shots as im slowly getting happy with how my interior looks, fitted my better usa lamp seals thats mostly cured the condensation think the rest is bad aftermarket unit sealing, made a 850R freind in the services and got a shot of the fleet as it is. apart from my 940 thats hiding away. washed n ready Image488 by ramawson, on Flickr looks good next to johns car Image489 by ramawson, on Flickr volvo team on a roll Image490 by ramawson, on Flickr stuck in the field Image491 by ramawson, on Flickr after show wash Image492 by ramawson, on Flickr nice interior shot 1 Image493 by ramawson, on Flickr another fancy angle Image494 by ramawson, on Flickr aaaand another angle Image495 by ramawson, on Flickr suddenly got rather snowy Image496 by ramawson, on Flickr fitting my seals Image497 by ramawson, on Flickr all done Image498 by ramawson, on Flickr 850R freind Image499 by ramawson, on Flickr nice view from my window Image500 by ramawson, on Flickr fleet shot 1 Image501 by ramawson, on Flickr and another with a clean yard now Image502 by ramawson, on Flickr

carrying on from the last time i did another oil n filter change to flush out some of the carbon crap thats still comming outta my 180K mile block. prior owner wasnt big on changes obiously, so down to the local clive brook in huddersfield, had a glance at the new range but not for me. once that was done i cleaned up my new TD6141 740 radio face i got from america and fitted a vatra battery that did solve my starting issue slightly, also made the car run a lot nicer. on swapping the radio i found the tape deck was dead (worked but not picking up any sound) and half the lighting circuit was dead so im gonna have it refurbished by a radio place localy thats good with radios when i get the time, after that went to oil can cafe volvotuining meet, was a good day out car ran fine no complaints there, picked up a 100A alternator from ste to replace my dieing 740 unit as it was slowly not charging the new huge battery. and kept pressing on with winter running duty's so lots of salt n grit, did WD40 the lid for a "instant black" look, bit cheating but ya know im lazy. arty shot by the bf Image503 by ramawson, on Flickr new vs old Image504 by ramawson, on Flickr the new line, yet the old is still going strong Image505 by ramawson, on Flickr cleaning the face up Image506 by ramawson, on Flickr new battery fitted Image507 by ramawson, on Flickr radio milarkey Image508 by ramawson, on Flickr face off to check the circuits Image509 by ramawson, on Flickr in and powered up. radio side works but i use a tape deck aux a LOT Image510 by ramawson, on Flickr mine at oil can cafe Image511 by ramawson, on Flickr general overview Image512 by ramawson, on Flickr another from the bf driving back looks like its from a 80's vhs Image513 by ramawson, on Flickr 100A alternator from ste Image514 by ramawson, on Flickr awful awful salt Image515 by ramawson, on Flickr instant black! more updates, been a long time since i did this so still catching up! so after doing nearly a entire winter ruining my american quads i discovered something. my 740 E code headlight protectors fit perfectly.... so put them in the car for next time i washed the front, got a flat at work so that sucked a lil. went over to johns to install my 100A alternator and a small bodge later (and some rewiring) we were away, with my new headlight protectors also installed to road test them, on the way home noted the alternator gauge sits noticably higher so its doing something. gave the car a good wash all over and metal polished some parts, doing this also noted some nice bulkhead seam rust thats happening. lovely.... then back to cold winter driving for a while and a measure up for some possible spotlights swedish style. thinking the size of a foglight maybe, i dunno will see where it goes headlight protectors on Image518 by ramawson, on Flickr yep the definetly fit Image519 by ramawson, on Flickr flat tire changing in my lunch break, yay Image520 by ramawson, on Flickr alternator fitting Image521 by ramawson, on Flickr all fitted Image522 by ramawson, on Flickr washed the lights and fitted my protectors finally Image523 by ramawson, on Flickr charging a lot better Image524 by ramawson, on Flickr gave it a good wash Image525 by ramawson, on Flickr all shiny again Image526 by ramawson, on Flickr interior cleaned Image527 by ramawson, on Flickr exhaust polished Image528 by ramawson, on Flickr bulkhead seam rust =( Image529 by ramawson, on Flickr cold morning warm up Image530 by ramawson, on Flickr out n about in leeds Image531 by ramawson, on Flickr possible spot light seutp? continuing on from the last update, after then there was a period of not much happened to it, mainly daily duty's tip runs and a trip out to the north york wilderness to pick up some doors for my 240 project, got all my switches lighting up finally after a while of "Ill do that sometime". gave the car a good polish and valet so obiously it horses it down as soon as i had done that but went n got some "ok" pictures of it over by hudders, rolled over 185K and then my presents from the dealer came, a genuine electric antenna mast and a turbo air ducting to fit onto the 7 at the post office, dailying me about Image533 by ramawson, on Flickr tip run time Image534 by ramawson, on Flickr cleaned n out on a run Image535 by ramawson, on Flickr 740 and 242 gt Image536 by ramawson, on Flickr loaded up home bound Image537 by ramawson, on Flickr unloading my doors Image538 by ramawson, on Flickr switches working Image539 by ramawson, on Flickr polish time Image540 by ramawson, on Flickr headlight surrounds took ok to super resin Image541 by ramawson, on Flickr fancy beading Image542 by ramawson, on Flickr the brick Image543 by ramawson, on Flickr rainy landscape Image544 by ramawson, on Flickr interior shot Image545 by ramawson, on Flickr 185,000 Image547 by ramawson, on Flickr dealership parts Image548 by ramawson, on Flickr

lord im so bad keeping these things up to date. a while behined again! anyway. shortly after getting everything to a ok standard in my head my M47 decided to throw me a curve ball and completely die with weird symptoms. it ground going into gears, ground when the clutch was depressed, randomly clacked n sounded like metal balls smacking around the bell housing, so decided to M90 swap it with parts from my project 940 spare box and some parts from a freind. the swap was far from stress free, but in the end it was completed and the car drives fine, much nicer box the M90 in my opinnion and the shorter throw is a lot nicer too, the RMS was leaking so i replaced that along with the clutch/gearbox job, i used the original dogdish Kjet flywheel, diesel M90 clutch kit and spaced the pivot the slight you need to make it work. parts collecting Image549 by ramawson, on Flickr jacked up ready for swap Image550 by ramawson, on Flickr box sat by the side of the car Image551 by ramawson, on Flickr degreasing it Image552 by ramawson, on Flickr old box off time to remove the clutch Image553 by ramawson, on Flickr new box having had time to soak looks good Image554 by ramawson, on Flickr old box out Image555 by ramawson, on Flickr leaking RMS Image556 by ramawson, on Flickr mmmmm yummy Image557 by ramawson, on Flickr cleaned the back of the engine Image558 by ramawson, on Flickr seems to be a bit missing here Image559 by ramawson, on Flickr lots of clutch crap on the flywheel! wouldnt be helping things Image560 by ramawson, on Flickr all done! small update just getting back up to speed with things (will take a while) after the M90 was proved to be working and normal service resumed i gave it another wash and got the interior to how i wanted it to look, and my package from america arrived with my new radio seutp. the one ive had troubles getting for nearly a year now! more old updates been busy with life and such again so still catching up, after assessing what was usable on the radios i slowly in the background started to gather codes and making them actually work. gave the car a good wash for a local show and dosent scrub up bad for 28 years old, had a day of sitting getting each radio out of "off" mode and seeing what ones work lighting wise, and what ones were total duds. and fitted my cd autochanger on the same day, during this discovered a huge lake in my car + did some rear boot floor bodging to keep it living for a few years untill the 240 takes over, fitting the 780 radio box was fairly easy, it had to be slightly modified to make fit over my relays as euro cars have a lot more than american cars (dim dip etc etc) finally got one radio working and painted the EQ buttons black to match. more to come later. shined up Image574 by ramawson, on Flickr front shot Image575 by ramawson, on Flickr not bad for its age Image576 by ramawson, on Flickr needs a polish a bit Image577 by ramawson, on Flickr interior shot Image578 by ramawson, on Flickr we have light! contining on from last time, got the radio all in and working powered up, EQ dances etc etc but quickly discovered i hated not having the lighting circuit working, so it was in for one VT meet (that i took literally 1 picture at) then taken out and replaced with my 760 radio setup that worked (another one off ebay as the first one was dead) and turns out. didnt fit cause volvo changed it by 3mm thanks volvo! after that got some more parts for it from the main stealer, and went on a engine pulling mission to mr chesh's this is the engine that will be used in the re-shelling project of this car B230FT but coupled to a autobox and 140K on the clock, usualy auto's are less thrashed. the car handled it with ease the way there and back up the A1 all be it sat a bit low. also got my radio back from the repair shop and we have light! only white atm as i need some green bulb caps, and i wired the EQ rheostat wiring up in reverse so it dosent light but ya know. small issues. we have life Image589 by ramawson, on Flickr accessories gallore Image590 by ramawson, on Flickr at the chippy meet Image591 by ramawson, on Flickr no lighting circuit working =( Image592 by ramawson, on Flickr dancy EQ Image593 by ramawson, on Flickr like sitting in the car at night now. looks awesome Image594 by ramawson, on Flickr temp 760 radio Image595 by ramawson, on Flickr new VS old Image596 by ramawson, on Flickr engine pulling Image597 by ramawson, on Flickr its out!
