Yet again I have a broken locking wheel nut and I really don't know why people bother with them. Not fitted by me as I remove them on any car that I buy as I have been caught out a couple of times with punctures when I haven't been able to get the wheel off. What socket or tool do peeps use please, and I'm trying to avoid drilling if poss?

I'll PM you, as it's not something that should be on a public forum. ;)

Got mine from proper place Ones on eBay aren't the best and trend to mark wheels or fail Sometimes even too big to go in wheel nut recess Ones I have are also multi fit Most aren't I have found over the years Most of guys in work use dynomec btw

I'm going to try the 'Stribo' method before I buy anything special for the job. Just one broke at the moment, but it wouldn't surprise me if all 4 end up the same.

I just hammered an undersized socket on the Gul's broken one with a club hammer and was then able to shift it, also it can be helpful to have someone hammering on the socket as you carefully ease it undone. Hope your able to shift it Mark, last resort drill and easy-out it or get a nut welded onto it (could damage paint due to heat transfer if too long is spent welding, do in short bursts with cooling time between)

If all else fails, I once removed a wheel from a BMW with a hole saw just big enough to fit over the bolt. Run the hole saw in a drill without the mandrel obviously. Its a lot less hassle than a stihl saw and the wheel was still usable on four studs as a get you home option.

Bit of filler, sanding block and silver paint - good as new.

The ts400 to the rescue ot was the last resort and the little one with his Billy big arms tightened the locking nut way too tight and had a new buyer coming to buy the car with a different set of wheels within the hour so time wasn't on my side

I got fed up of hammering in the end and it was getting late so I didn't want to keep the kids on the street awake. I've ordered a socket off ebay and I'll see how I go one with that. It's actually the Saab that I'm having the issue with, so it meant I had to use the R this week which means that she's had a good run. Let you know how I go on with the stuck one, and I better try the other three now as well I suppose.

The best and cheapest option is to hire the kit from Mcgard if its one of there's locking nuts that wont move with hammering on a socket .I once had that done at Volvo and it didn't cost a lot with no damage. The garage that VK sometimes uses who have an extensive range of tools just for that type of job ,one kit costing in excess of £500 but they would not budge. They ended up just drilling them out but used a few drill bits in the process They did damage the paintwork on the wheels which they sent away and got refurbished FOC. Welding was the other option that they thought about doing but didn't go down that route which was up to them.

I still haven't sorted this and continue to drill out the offending locking nut. I have a reverse thread socket for the other 3 which I will tackle after sorting the broken one. The wheel is knacked but was worse for wear anyway so that doesn't bother me too much. Just the bloody drilling.....................
If your in notts any time soon give me a shout ill get it off for ya
Thanks, but I'm hoping that tomorrow I will have the wheel off. The nut is hardly sticking out now and just needs to be a bit narrower and then I think I will be able to remove the wheel. Then the rest of the nut..........

Finally, I have my locking wheel nut issue sorted thanks to Readview Volvo. Cut the wheel off this morning, and fitted 2 front new tyres and the new wheel which arrived yesterday. Just waiting for the wheel nuts now to replace all 4 lockers with and I will never ever have lockers on a car again.............
