Hey everyone, I'm Tom and live in Burnley. Just registered as I'm looking at become a Volvo owner (never thought I'd see the day) and I have come over from the dark side (Japanese)
My previous motors include
Nissan micra k11 (no pic)
Honda Civic coupe em1

And beloved Honda integra type r JDM DC2

Had to recently give the Integra up due to having a baby girl as it wasn't exactly baby friendly. So here I am looking at choosing my family wagon. I'm looking at getting a ph2 v70 t5 as you get a lot of bang for buck but then I stumbled across the v70r awd and was suprised it has a faster 0-60 time on paper than my last Honda.
So that sort of settled it and maybe getting this this week and wondered if any of you guys would be able to give me any pointers to look out for, already read about the diff that tends to go due to the input shaft failing. Also wondered if anyone recognised the reg and would be able to shed a little bit of history about it. The car has covered 81k

Looking forward to being part of the Volvo community :B_thumb:

Welcome to the forum, the P2R Volvo's are deceptively quick, just ask this Scooby driver. ;)

Yes mate that's when it was standard, since been remapped, and had 3" downpipe with sports cat, and Ferrita cat back exhaust fitted, and is running just under 320 bhp. Got an uprated intercooler to fit, then it'll have a stage 2 remap. :D

Sounds like it'll be a right beast, does yours have the awd system?

Yes, ours is basically the same car as yours, but a saloon instead of an estate.

Ah right thanks, unfortunately it's not mine, just rung the guy and it's already gone :icon_soap so still on the hunt with a 5k budget. Thing is I'm finding out that they are like trying to find rocking horse ££££, you wouldn't know the difference between the r engine and the 2.5 T S engine as they is about 90bhp difference
Post 778108 by stribo on 2015-07-13 10:18:29
The major difference is the turbo, and the mapping, the R also has an additional intercooler. There's one in the for sale section, needs a bit of tidying, but it's within your budget.;)

Things to look out for on the R's...
Make sure the 4c suspension is working correctly in all 3 modes. Shocks are not as much money as they used to be should they need replacing, especially if you buy them direct from Monroe. Approx £250 a pair, which for what you're getting is a good deal. Over time springs do go ££££y, especially when reaching the 100k mark. Look for saggy rear ends, the R's sit quite high normally, unless it's been lowered, sitting lowish could mean your gonna want new springs.
Make sure the awd is working properly. The angle gear/collar can be a weak point. If it's not functioning it could be just the collar which is a relatively cheap fix, if its the angle gear itself you'll see a little bit of change out of a grand.
Make sure it is not losing/using any water. Split liners is not uncommon, even on standard cars. That's an expensive headache you don't want.
The above sounds worse than it is, but things worth looking out for when you go to look at one. Generally they're reliable, good all round motors.

Cheers Chris, hopefully guna get chance to look at one that's for sale on here if he gets back. Says he's just had the angle gear replaced recently so will quiz him on that when I get chance, to be honest that's the only bit that really worried me about these when reading up but sounds like it's covered. MOT got done in June as well so hopefully springs/shockers will be fine. Got a mate with garage so will get him to give it the full works when I get it. Again thanks for all your tips :B_thumb:

Oh and how would I know if the 4c suspension is working right?
Post 778127 by stribo on 2015-07-13 14:55:44
Just go through the 3 modes, the difference is noticeable on all.

Sod the neighbours . If they made a bad buying decision by moving in next door to a Volvonut it's their problem . They should have checked it with Kirsty and Phil.
