I have noticed over the last month or so that the forum has been quiet.
It doesn't help due the fact that a few good members are no long posting on the forum.
Or is it always quite this time of the year with members take there annual holidays.

in my opinion the forum has being going down hill for months now. I had a private pm from one of the mods deleting my posts and when I replied, there response was, if you don't like the way we run it, then go elsewhere.

I agree with mike and said as much last week, forum is dying on its feet, I post 10 times the amount on fb, it's easier on smart phones with pics etc as well.
Threads go off topic, worthwhile members have left, moderation is shot to pieces, post count is a fraction of what it was.

You gotta sort that volvo out Duane or it'll rot away and you'll be left with 10 grand of performance parts where your car once was.

I've not checked the archives but I'll bet it was the day after an event like tax.

Not having a Volvo anymore doesn't help, as Volvo owners don't like BMW drivers and I'm more into my detailing now that I've finished doing the upgrades and you seem to get flamed if you just post pictures after a good cleaning session.

I don't even know what your talking about Mike, what the hell is broadband?
We have a whatsapp group and its far easier to post pictures on that as is FB, it's a shame because the forum means a lot to me. I still need to get round to posting pictures of my brakes but that requires my laptop and that's old fashioned, who uses computers these days :P
I like your detailing pish :)
Post 778462 by claymore on 2015-07-18 09:01:40
There hasn't been any racing recently, that usually gets the banter going, and a lot of the heavy posters have definitely gone quiet.
Post 778467 by Santa on 2015-07-18 10:43:12
Figures over recent years do show a downward turn this time of year but I will agree it is quieter now than it is usually this time of year.
So some of the causes we know about (and not an exhaustive list, plus some will have different opinions).
Greater use of facebook, for "chuck away" posts, posting the odd picture, sales item and smaller/less detailed threads Facebook is easier. Facebook is better designed for the social element. Facebook is also becoming the first place people look for information.
Volvo ownership is generally becoming less desirable among general car enthusiasts, so as those that move to other marques aren't replaced by equal numbers of new Volvo owning enthusiasts.
Even though we have tried to diversify slightly, the "name above the door" is still Volvo Performance Club UK, its UK centric for Performance Volvos, though there was great enthusiasm for the P1 T5R and R models and even those enthusiastic abut the P2 R models, Volvo hasn't repeated this for P3 models nor is it likely they will do in the near future.
Some members that used to dedicate a lot of their time adding lots of content have moved on for varying reasons, these can range from change in focus, time, priorities to setup of there own facebook groups and clashes with other members.
We have some plans to try and deal with certain aspects above but we are also lacking time to deal with them at the moment.
in my opinion the forum has being going down hill for months now. I had a private pm from one of the mods deleting my posts and when I replied, there response was, if you don't like the way we run it, then go elsewhere.
Not quite what has been said but it's ultimately not far off. Members make the community, we merely provide the framework. We provide this framework on a best endeavours, no charge basis. We know there are alternatives out there and we know here isn't going to suit everyone, especially during any evolution/changes (whether perceived as better or worse) within the community or the provided framework. Ultimately we aren't going to be able to make everyone happy but we also aren't tying people up and making them come here and stay.
Personally Mike I like your detailing information and appreciate you contributing it.

I've just left a load of Facebook pages, because it is mostly drivel like "front end Friday", "back end March".... One pages copies the next and the same pictures (even mine) get posted. I still use here, but as said above priorities have changed for me at the moment, so no racing or rolling road sessions are of any interest to me at this period of Volvo ownership...
Although I seem to go to the VT events, because it manages to attract a large quantity of Volvos to look at and compare, I only have VPC car badges on display...

Sadly the forums dying on its feet, it's not been the same for a long time now. I only check in every now and again and tbh I've stopped keepin stuff like my build thread going because no one seems interested. As already mentioned there is more interest in pages on Facebook these days as it's easier to keep up. Gone are the days of logging in and seeing 5 or 6 new pages of posts.. now we're lucky if there's 5 or 6 new posts.

I've not been on Facebook for 5 years. I do feel I miss out on family pics etc but don't miss the idiots posting selfies and bigging themselves up. I also don't miss the complete insincerity of some people, taking the 5 seconds to write a sentence on Facebook to make out they're your bud, when in reality they don't give a toss or they would pick the phone up.
So please keep posting the events on here. I will make it to an event one day lol

I have no Volvo anymore & I will be linched if I posted about the saab.
Tbh this forum is one of the strongest I've visited since getting back into cars. The Toyota forums I visited when I had my t-sports were dead as was the type-r forum I joined during my 6 months of vtec madness.
The saab forum is fairly busy but as I now drive an oil burner & am saving my pennies for another t5 play-thing I have nothing to post.
Facebook is so much easier, ask a question & once you've sifted through the bullpoo & silly memes you can usually get what you require.
I like the forum & have met some cracking people both online & at meets. I will carry on visiting although not as frequently (working 60 hours, commuting 300 miles a week, being a Daddy to my 8 month old son & tending to my pregnant wives every need has put a stop to "me" time ;))
I think it will struggle as time go's on, maybe try plug the fb page a bit more but then you attract the idiots..
Blaming the mods isn't the right solution, they have a tough job to carry out having been a mod many years ago it proved to me its very hard to keep everyone happy.

can be as bad. its a 2.0 Naturally asthmatic 8v 4 pot. it dont have 5 cylinders or a turbo so people dont care. but tbh im starting to like the redblock turbos more than the whiteblock 5's ive been in some tuned up redblock cars and they give you a right kick in the teeth with the low down torque
Post 778672 by S40kieran on 2015-07-20 23:04:03
You like what you like mate :) if it makes you happy and smile then why care ;), it's all about that torque :) that's what I like about diesels love the torque and power rather than speed just a shame on my diesel I can't tune it that much so I can't convert all that torque through the wheels.
Something they have done on that BMW no wasted torque it all goes through the wheels.

IMO the majority of regular members seem to want an outlet for banter. So long as that is the case, then I can see why Facebook would be a preferable outlet for that. Everyone's different, and for me I don't join forums for the banter, I join primarily for for the technical support and the information that is available. Interesting projects and inspiration are probably secondary. Banter is good, but it's way down my list of priorities.
I still visit most days, as checking forums is part of my daily "time killing" routine (on the bus, lunch break, having a dump etc) but there's definitely been a noticeable down turn in the last few months. Since James stopped posting and winding people up there's much less going on! Make of that what you will!

Seems rather harsh, there are less than a handful of posts in here that are not related to your discussion topic, this happens on most forums
Much easier to post useful things and therefore add to the forum wellbeing than just bemoaning the situation... in my opinion.
