Found two decent s60s for sale and was wondering if anyone had any preferences.
Car 1 S60 2.3 T5
Plus points -
Lower mileage.
Looks immaculate inside.
Nebulas.
"Sports" suspension.
£290 tax.
Sound like its top of the range and has most extras.
By hearing other peoples opinions, the trader only likes to deal in top condition cars.
Black leather.
4 nearly new, possibly Falken, tyres.
Negatives.
Pre-facelift, so has black bump strips and lights.
2.3 so slightly less powerful.
Doesn't respond as well to mapping.
Bit of a dull colour. (possibly the pics don't show it at its best??)
More susceptible to DIM and etm issues, although they could both have been sorted. (although not too worried about those because of the condition and mileage of the car).
Geartronic, so more chance of gearbox issues. (same as above)
Car 2 S60 2.4 T5
Plus points -
I like the colour.
Its a facelift, so has colour coded strips and better front and rear headlights.
Sports front bumper.
2.4 so slightly better power.
Plenty of power to be had from remap, sports cat, dp upgrades.
Negatives -
Decent wheels, but not as nice as the Nebs.
Light colour interior.
Doesn't look in as good condition.
Possibly not as high spec.
Not got the "sports" suspension.
£490 tax.
So, any input from others?

Put the Nebs and black leather into the facelift and your good to go!
Externally the newer car looks nicer and less dated but I'd personally go with the older car on the nicer interior and sunroof as this is where you spend most of your time.

Yeah the interior is a lot nicer in black, but the main things is that the newer car is a 2.4.
Just noticed its got proper xenons but is also a geartronic.

I suppose i could fit updated lights and the sports, or possibly R bumper, on the older car.

I'd go for the later car too

Yep and colour code the trims at the same time. It would be more expense though obviously.
Have you tried both engines and boxes? What do you want to achieve in the long term. If you prefer the older car and only plan as far as a remap I can't see the engine being much of a negative point.

I don't really know what the long term plan would be, i could only have it for a year and start looking for a v8 bmw or 850/s70 R again.
But either one of them could be a good choice as a project (my kind of project, which is looks and low level performance upgrades). The early car because it looks immaculate and with the updated lights, bumper etc, could be a very good looking car. The newer car because 340bhp is achievable without having to do major mods.
From what i've read, mapping will take the 2.3 to about 280bhp but the 2.4 can achieve 300bhp.

Hold out for a good R I may take along time but will be worth it

what you want is an 05 2.4 t5 car like mine as you get the cheaper tax at 290 quid as well as the 2.4 engine I realise they are rare but they do come up, I got a cheap 2.3 to play with while I was looking for mine oh and are you specifically looking for a geartronic/auto

The 2.3 was being sold by Seb (SLR motors), so would have been immaculate. His cars never hang around long because they are so good. I think I suggested him as a friend on Facebook for you, keep an eye on what he has coming in, and when you see something you like, go for it.

By itself the extra £200 tax is nothing, but then you realise your paying that extra simply because its a few months newer. When you look at it like that, you're being ripped off.
I can only drive autos.

Yep, posted a link the other week but then a nice 540 came up.
The car did look immaculate from the pics.

I would hang on for an 05 also, I don't like paying 230 quid tax never mind 490. Next car will be pre-2001, under 1.5!!
