There will be absolutely NO interest or love for this around here, but here goes... So, I thought I'd start a little thread about the latest addition to Casa-del-sideways. What do you get when an 850 Image And an S70: Image get it on?? A facelift 460. The b4stard child of the two P80s, that never was anywhere near as good. Image I bought this 460 CD a couple of weeks ago: CD spec, so full leather, A/C (that actually works), remote locking (that half works), blah, blah... Bought the car to replace Mrs Sideways' current daily - a S1 460 Turbo, which has become pretty unreliable in it's old age, but that will be coming off the road for a rebuild in good time. Being a 400 series that hasn't lived in an air tight cocoon all it's life, the rear arches look like this: Image So, they're getting new steel repair panels welded in and painted up. Also, Mrs Sideways has declared that she wants another auto. So I'll be changing gearboxes. That'll be nice. So, plans: Not that much really. Tidy it up, new arches obviously, some different wheels, boot spoiler (they look wrong without them) Got a stainless exhaust knocking about somewhere that I might persuade to fit Auto conversion, deep joy. That's about it really

Been having a rummage today through my 400 series stash (Yes, I am sad enough to have a 400 series stash, ask Jamesy) and dug out some goodies, planting plenty of seeds in my head. More on those if/when they come to anything. Dug out a set of old TSWs though, offered them up and made the immediate decision to have them refurbed. Also, I've got myself an 850R spoiler for the S70, so the S70's existing spoiler will be going on this after a little chopping. Spent the afternoon arsing around, here's the beast in all it's glory, complete with "new" wheels and cigarette box supported 850R spoiler (for sizing up purposes) Image Image Aww, bless. Really does look like it wants be a P80. It's trying so hard. NO!! Back in your cage!! Gotta keep 'em in line. Give 'em an inch...

I was getting quite interested until you mentioned "auto converzzzzzzzzzzz.... Keep posting mate, should make a break from the normal tripe.

I'd say it was more 360 crossed with S70. ;)

Post 780964 by Doingitsideways on 2015-08-09 09:40:25

Oh, did I mention it has NO TURBO?! Thanks for looking :(
I'd say it was more 360 crossed with S70. ;)
Also think that there was definitely a 7/900 at the orgy as it's got the arse of one, that was probably up the wrong-un, as the mother is clearly a dirty bitch and loves it. Think the 850 is the mum tbh, it's a dirty slag.

Post 780974 by jamesy12345 on 2015-08-09 11:58:42

Looks alright to me.! Not many people want an auto...if Ray the 460 is off the road, what is she driving in the mean time then? When Pollution is back together your bird would be welcome to use it until this one is ready. ps can I have your flywheel pls http://www.volvo-480-europe.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=14907&start=20

Post 780988 by Doingitsideways on 2015-08-09 13:08:37

Yeah, no worries. Excellent research btw. Ive put a wanted ad up in a couple of places for manual flywheels, one of which would be for you. Edit: She's using the Shark at the moment. This troubles me greatly.

Love the TSW wheels on that, really suit it. Once had a set of TSW's on an 850... always been nice wheels. I never used to be a fan of the 460 preffered the 440 but the 460 with a boot spoiler again is transformed. Watching poised ;)

Knocked up a stainless 'Zorst for it today. What do you think? Image Looks sick, yo!

Post 781830 by jamesy12345 on 2015-08-15 20:22:45

you're supposed to be doing the arches :{P

Post 781846 by Doingitsideways on 2015-08-15 21:35:21
you're supposed to be doing the arches :{P
No, Craig's doing the arches. I got far too carried away with lengths of shiny pipe! :D Oh, that exhaust I got off you was for a series 1 440. Think it was anyway, as it was about 6" short with the outlet pointing in the wrong direction. I've shown it a grinder now, replaced the small middle box with straight pipe and rejigged the outlet the right way with a nice tip :) Sounds alright with one box tbh, or will do when I stop it blowing, bit of rasp to it. Cat is in the bin also, as can be seen to the right of the above pic :)

Post 781848 by AcidicDavey on 2015-08-15 21:50:59

That's no good for going sideways Mr Sideways, you'll take ped's shins out on roundabouts! :nono:
you'll take ped's shins out on roundabouts! :nono:
Bonus :)

Post 783436 by Doingitsideways on 2015-08-27 00:49:10

Exhaust sorted now. No pics, but it doesn't stick 6' out the back, no longer has a cat, has only one silencer, many pieces of stainless tube and even more clamps. Seriously - ten of them! Found a pic: Image Money's ran out for now, so arches on hold for a couple of weeks. I've set Craig to work on refurbing the wheels though, so no doubt they're still sat in his garden because he hates me, my crusty 460 and my crusty 460's mangled wheels.

Looking good. Ride height needs to come down a bit

Actually I've attacked one of them to see how bad the corrosion was, so there's one in the garage, lol.
Looking good. Ride height needs to come down a bit
If you mean because it's on stands, it's on the deck now. If you mean actually lowering it, it'll be left at standard height to stop my PMS* exhaust being taken off by speedbumps. *Pikey Modification Solutions. Think I'm gonna TM that one.

Post 783549 by Doingitsideways on 2015-08-27 21:07:15

Suspension's not too bad actually, the car's only done 54k though. Feels much tighter than Ray the 460T, but that's prob done twice the mileage, no one will ever know though, god knows how long the speedo hasn't worked for over it's life! Was a little wallowy on the standard wheels, but these wheels with a 35 series tyre should sort that out... Then ruin the struts! :D

Post 783977 by Doingitsideways on 2015-08-31 00:20:37

So, as Louise has decided that she only wants an auto, and as her old 460 is an auto, I'm swapping the gearboxes over. Today, me and my bezzy mate started to pull the auto 'box out of the old 460T on my drive. Then some swearing happened. Then we decided that it would be a much better idea to have the two cars side by side, rather than 15-20 miles apart (this one's at Tomcat's in Wigan) so thought we'd go and get it. Got there and tried to tax it online, but it's now stuck in the absolute horse££££ system, so left without it. Some more swearing happened. The end. :(

I'd have chanced it :D Far does though, real sign of love of peace to do the unthinkable and convert a motor TO an auto for the missus. Does this mean Ray the Turbo will become a manual?

Ohh dear, if you need a low loader let me no or tc he has my.number.

Does this mean Ray the Turbo will become a manual?
Yes it will :) And as for love and peace, it was wearing VERY thin yesterday!
Ohh dear, if you need a low loader let me no or tc he has my.number.
Cheers for the offer Fella. :) It'll have to wait for the time being either way. I wanted to tax it online so I could do the monthly DD thing, I could tax it at a post office, but they don't offer it and as I'm brassic at the moment, it'll have to wait. I was just trying to do "free" stuff on the car for the time being, if you know what I mean? The new tax system pisses me off. I had the same with the S70, that got stuck in the system for months. You can't even speak to anyone at the DVLA if you phone, just automated bull5h1t. What, 18 months in? And the system is still in Beta (as-in testing) and is STILL not ready or fit for purpose, with no way around it. Don't you just love government agencies?! W4nk3rs.

Post 784009 by twr on 2015-08-31 11:37:47

The dvla is ££££ed now mate

Post 784012 by Doingitsideways on 2015-08-31 12:21:35

Let me know how much you'd want to shift it from Craig's to south Manchester, Northern Moor to be precise. Tbf though, it would be cheaper to tax it. I'll have some money in a couple of weeks, so it's nay bother.
