I wouldn't bother. The cost would outweigh the unreliable outcome. Awd is a mine field of engineering part changes & not the best of designs. I absolutely hated working on my v70r awd in the end. Nothing is easy & everything will break unless you get an absolutely mint doner car which I doubt. Ring Volvo parts dept for prices & prepare for a new shade of poo.

I've looked into it, and the engineering involved is just a nightmare. The AWD uses a totally different rear suspension, which use mounting points that aren't on a standard 850/x70 floorpan. The AWD rear suspension is so overly complicated, it's bordering on laughable. Also the rear brakes (discs, and calipers need changing. IMO, it would be easier to weld a C70 body to a 850/V70 AWD floorpan. All that having been said, if you're determined enough, and have the skills, or lots of money, it is possible. ;)

As said, it's been done a few times with 854's. & a C70 is just an 850 in a skirt

It's been done in Australia https://ozvolvo.org/discussion/329/rob-s-c70-t5-awd/p1

Doesn't the C70 have a wider rear track, or am I talking out of my arse? Would mean longer driveshafts as well as welding in a million mounting points for the subframe, probably extending that too. Now, a RWD C70 would be awesome. Turn the engine round and bolt an M90 to it. Lovely :)

It's not uncommon in the ford world for people to weld Sierra and Escort floorplans and bulkheads to FWD cars. If you had the skill set I'm sure it could be done with a Volvo.

Also increasingly common for them to be using redblocks and T5 lumps

One of the guys on the OzVolvo forum built a C70T5 AWD manual using mostly donor parts from a V70XC.
