Hells teeth, horrific crash at Shoreham today. Apparently the plane hit some traffic on the A27..... TT

Just tragic, didn't think they would do a display over a major road like that.

Been speaking to JT about this, as he's near Shoreham, , some horrific pictures coming through.

the pilot SURVIVED apparently. The trouble with ex military civilian owned aircraft is that they have to have ejection seats deactivated - so its a parachute job. I worked on the Hunters in the RAF- my favourite aircraft. as thats the SECOND major air display accident I can see them being VERY restricted from now on - possibly with little to no flying!

Thoughts with the families involved

All weekend air show in Bournemouth at the moment. Vulcan flew along the beach, but I think this was before the accident. Went quiet later in the day, possibly due to this.

We saw the traffic in Chichester only a few miles up the road, tragic for those families

Post 782868 by JT on 2015-08-23 01:42:44

thoughts go out to those involved....... this happened about a mile away from my home, the Vulcan did a very slow fly-by moments later. we were watching it approach when it obviously had a call........ 7dead,40 injured, but may be more we pass this bit of road on a daily basis.......I don't think it will ever be the same again http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-sussex-34029764

Very sad as a first aider, the first thing I'd be doing is checking for survivors, not videoing it.

Post 782870 by JT on 2015-08-23 02:49:47

I agree, but some people don't know how to react in a situation like that. There will be many more disturbing pictures and videos out soon, no doubt.

Jt Looks like the part of road where the speed camera is, but I could be wrong.

That's terrible, unbelievable pictures and videos above, must have been full of fuel I can't see any comments on the news yet about what went wrong - mechanical failure or pilot error. Looking at the speed of that manoeuvre maybe he lost consciousness and came down on the road. Doubt that he would try and steer it there on purpose for an emergency landing

yes mate, the junction with the airport entrance on airshow weekend, they turn the traffic lights off and cone it all off to help get people into the airport. east bound normally flows ok, but the west bound traffic was probably at stand still..................

Apparently one of the cars was a Daimler wedding car on the way to the church
Very sad as a first aider, the first thing I'd be doing is checking for survivors, not videoing it.
EXACTLY what id have done all these bloody muppets - walking round videoing EVERYTHING that moves on their phones these days - very sad and insensitive. I was in the RAF when a plane crashed at our station air display killing the pilot. In those days there were NO mobiles only cameras but no one ran over to photograph the guy in the cockpit! We ran to help if we could! :(

What amazes me is they usually have a safe zone for these kind of displays incase of something like this happening. It is a real shame what has happened. There was a similar incident recently at a show at oulton park. I think luckily no body was killed but i could be wrong.
Very sad as a first aider, the first thing I'd be doing is checking for survivors, not videoing it.
I'm glad I not the only thinking that. As an emergency services worker I am often left speechless by the lack of assistance some humans offer others in need.

Post 783375 by JT on 2015-08-26 18:48:34

Just sat in the queue trying to get home to see a private ambulance being escorted away from the scene by 4 motorbike patrols a very sad sight....................................... :(
Just noticed your location, did you live there when the panam came down?
I was 8 years old.......so didn't understand at the time. I remember the night though. We left to go away for a week to my Nan's house for Xmas so missed all the press/invasion.

Must have been a terrible time, but part of modern history now. Doesn't seem that long ago but time flys.

Yeah, its a bit mad. Wasn't till I went to Uni and started meeting loads of folk. As soon as you mention the town its the next question someone askes. The phrase if I had a pound for every time someone asked me springs to mind. (Its not a problem to ask by the way)
