Hello all
I'm sad to say that my R5 turbo 2 was stolen last night, from its storage unit near Darlington. Recent photo below:
The car was insured but I don't want the money - it took me 15 years to find this car. Any news/information that leads to the return of the car I will pay 5k pounds for.
Reg is A857 XGJ. Alarm went off at storage unit at 19:00-19: 30 last night, from Sadberge near Darlington, County Durham, postcode DL2 1TD
Please share
Thanks

Really sorry to hear this fella - flooking hate tea leaves. Hope it gets recovered. Might be an idea to pop a post on the Renault forums [if you hadn't thought of that already!?!] as its a pretty rare car & hopefully someone will be offered it someone so you can get the buggers that robbed it.
All the best, morgan

thanks for that Morgan, yes I've posted on the Renault forum that I'm a member of. Some of the lads on there are on Retro Rides so they have put it on that one too. Plus on Piston Heads, Facebook etc
Yep not common at all, especially right hand drive although wouldn't be impossible to swap that back over.

Exactly what I said Mike - 4 cars were taken in total so it isn't kids looking for something to ram raid the local sweet shop...they had to get through a wall to get in. Lots of garage equipment also
Strangely enough the business was just about to be sold off...will say no more on that til I speak to the police.

Thanks for all comments guys. Neal the police have important things to do, like handing out S59's, but I will see if they are interested
Kmb that would be handy, probably that is where the car is heading
I should add they got the NC35 also..doh!

Mate I am absolutely gutted for you. I've been in this situation myself a long time ago but nothing as rare or loved like you love yours.
Hopefully with it's rarity it might come back.
I do have faith in Facebook with things like this. My wife got her engagement ring back through the power of Facebook so my faith was restored in humanity. If I was still on it I would share it but I will put word out & I've messaged my mate who is good pals with our local Renault man. He's had a few turbo 2's over the years so you never know.
Inside job written all over it, they knew what they were going for & how to get it if they went through a wall.
The police aren't worth it, just another car stolen!

Cheers, Biff that last part similar to what I was thinking & the police no doubt.
Another thought - it might be nothing but a few weeks ago a guy visited the garage and showed a lot of interest in the car, talking about a similar car parked up outside of his local indy (was a 5 Gordini). Not saying he has anything to do with it but he was pretty noisy & could easily went back to his local to tell everyone about it and where it was sitting. I will check it out.
A 'tweet' about the car being stolen has been 're-tweeted' (unfamiliar words to me!) as below:
https://twitter.com/harrym_evo
https://twitter.com/evomagazine
https://twitter.com/harrismonkey
No further info btw. Had a 'wake' for the car last night - caned a bottle of (french) vodka last night with my drinking buddy, who is a biker so understands the loss of a nice machine. Didn't find it in there either>>!
I spoke to the manager of the storage place late yesterday and the information about South Bank came from the police, saying 'the cars' had been seen on the A66 late Friday night, then Southbank on Saturday day time. She didn't know a specific time. They seemed to be talking more about the Swift though. I don't want to be pessimistic but if the car was targeted then it will probably disappear.
There's two ways it can go now - either the car is off to Europe whole or in bits, ....or I'll get a phone call about a puddle of melted plastic/twisted metal somewhere...
Not giving up hope though by any means please share as & where you can

About quarter of a tank, which should have been more than enough to get them there. It's only travelled 10-15 miles. I never fill it past half as the filler neck is close to the exhaust..!

Makes me wonder if it was really a organised break in for the turbo 2 as surly it would have been hidden better to leave for a day or 2 to check for tracker and knowing technology today there will be something to detect for trackers or block signals.
Possibly just either scum bags doing it for the sake of it or a deploy to get rid of the unit or the people who use it.
I had a look at prices of turbo 2 and my god there fetching some candy

Yes Pete strange isn't it. Maybe they bottled it due the internet coverage?? Maybe I am getting carried away with that but it's all I've got from here! Not impossible to beat a tracker, if you can find it...
Don't know what to say about the prices - they are mad & don't justify the work that needs doing to the cars, if they have been barely used (i.e. hardly any maintenance) for 30 yrs.

The guys who did it? Zero chance of catching them. Since the haven't damaged the car I can't say I am very pissed off about it. Hope they enjoyed it :) to drive it across the A66 full chat, as if all the demons in hell are after you....which it sounds like.....is some experience.

The guys who did it? Zero chance of catching them. Since the haven't damaged the car I can't say I am very pissed off about it. Hope they enjoyed it :) to drive it across the A66 full chat, as if all the demons in hell are after you....which it sounds like.....is some experience.
Thanks Biff...yes mate since they took just about every car in the garage + equipment seems a bit random rather than well thought out
Thinking about it the alarms went off at 7 pm (& were ignored by the owner like I mentioned), then the car was seen at 9:45 on the A66 a couple of miles away - hardly Gone in 60 seconds is it

I don;t know the spec of that one but mine is a bit on/off with boost & even so will grip til you slide off the seats. Combined with a short wheel base it must be hard work with plenty of power

As far I'm concerned, a Turbo2 must stay stock (except upgrades like injection, brakes - except fluo pink calipers, neon lights, etc.).

The battery is under the spare wheel at the front mate - they had to move the wheel to start the car as I left it disconnected
As it happens the spare wheel has just been found left in the storage place, probably where these nice chaps dropped it :)
Bit of a poor effort all round tbh
Anyway, treated the car to something nice to make up for all this:
Bike is long gong but still looking, V40 same. Shame I was just going to give the T4 to someone on the forum

It's one of the last remaining bits I need for the 200 CV kit (about 200 hp), not that arsed about the covering but it was a bit more free flowing & less than a third of the price of a proper tubular one
//edit
what little I can find on the net about it, seems to be TSA - thermally sprayed aluminum. It should help to keep heat down a bit in the bay. I was going to get some of the heat wrap but won't bother now
We use it at work. I remember a painter coming to find me & say he couldn't finish a pipe off cos he couldn't heat it up past 100 degrees to apply his TSA. Cos the pipe is full of water - I was trying to pressure test it & he was boiling it
The battery is under the spare wheel at the front mate - they had to move the wheel to start the car as I left it disconnected
No, I don't. I only made a quick search. You can find some info here : http://www.i-services.com/membres/forum/messages.php?page=0&uid=21855&sid=9344&idsujet=1439859&pgi=0
It appears first models of Axauto manifold were faulty, but the enterprise did a big after-sales service and corrected it.
On same link you will get info on Orbisound manifold. It's an old and well known company (Orbisoud that recently became Orbisound. Specialist in stainless exhauts. Old school company) :
http://www.orbisound-technology.com/echappement-renault.php
Price seems to be circa 650 €, but for people who got Axauto and Orbisound in hands, there are pretty close. Neither this : https://3sdeveloppement.fr/collecteurs/1679-collecteur-cevennes-collecteur-cevennescollecteurs.html

I want a petrol toy ideally Craig. The Saab will stay as its a good family car. Think the wife will inherit it & I'll use the golf for work. I have somewhere to keep it that's safe, just what I get. I quite fancy something like a 940 or 760 with a redblock or maybe a t5.
After selling my t5 I said to the wife the next Volvo has to be the keeper.
I'm keen on the 480's, I know of a blue K plate manual turbo on Azev wheels. I've no idea on the engines or capabilities of the engines, brakes, handling etc. I might stick a note on the windscreen when I have some cash that isn't being spent on babies or houses.

They handle superbly mate, really light and direct. The steering is perhaps a bit numb but it gets the job done. You sit on the floor which makes you feel like you are driving something special. Volvo apparently got help from Lotus getting the setup right. Coil sprung all round, discs too ;)
The engines are strong Renault sourced units if a little uninspiring. The non turbos are around 110bhp and if you want a frill then best avoided as they are by no definition quick but then not stupidly slow either, just adequate. Weight just over a tonne.
The Turbo is a 1.7 that Volvo threw at Porsche to 'charge and they did a cracking job but when Volvo got it back they thought that was way too fun so detuned Porsche's circa 160bhp effort down to 120!
The good thing though is that there are several ecu options out there to get you back to a higher power figure :).
If you are serious about a keeper and wanted a proper project/weapon then understand the choice familiar engines is huge. The family of engines Volvo used share mounts etc with all sorts of options including stuff like Megane Sport units if you are feeling really stupid :)

I watched your vid a lot of times during last Februar! My exhaust has to be changed and no more genuine parts available. I bought a front Walker silencer and a Klarius rear silencer (bought on Skandix), but I have no doubt they will rust quickly...
Interesting sound! Was it a bit annoying on long distance trip?
I bought mine eleven years ago (birthday next month) and she is 20 years old since last 16th of August. Did more of 80.000 km. I just changed rear shocks (swapped yellow Koni sport for red Koni) and it changed my life. Sometimes I think I could sell it for another car (240 GLT, 740/940 16V turbo or NA, E36 M3, Sub Forester Turbo, Civic EP3...) but it's unsaleable. And I love to aim the road between pop-up headlights at night. I grew up in my mother's ES from 1987 to 1998. My sister broke it the afternoon after she got her driving licence (true). So when I got my first job... the 480 came from ages in my mind. The next month I had my GT.

With an exhaust as loud as that was it meant you had to drive very lightly, the car it its 2 silencers removed for some straight through alternatives. It was too loud really but I was 19 so what do you expect :P. Hopefully in your part of the world you could get something made and specify something not as loud. It cost £330 in 2011.

Update to this, the T4 has just been recovered. Or rather it was recovered on the 16th but the 2nd class posted letter has just arrived.
150 quid recovery fee, 20 quid a day storage, need to tax & insure it to move it assuming it is driveable. This is turning out to be an expensive 300 quid car...I think they can keep that one :)

They must do that on purpose to make money out of people, bit of a piss take for the victim.
Post 793717 by Doingitsideways on 2015-12-24 17:47:50
Aye.
When my previous 460T was nicked it was dragged out of a bush by the "Approved" towing company of GMP and taken to their compound to await fingerprinting.
After a week and a half of constant badgering, it was released having not been printed, even though I was told it was.
I was handed a whopping bill for towing and storage, can't remember exactly now but the grand total was something like £600.
I told them to scrap the car (it was shagged from being airborne on the local park) and was charged for the privilege.
Funny how GMP's approved towing company hasn't changed for a looooong time, isn't it?
Plenty of backhanded action there, to the point of a reach around.

Fair point! It was the insurance of the storage place that refused to pay out, so the owner has lost a business out of it. I guess I could try my own insurance but I'd probably get the same response - so really insurance is nothing more than paying some money to satisfy a legal requirement.
I'd rather give the money direct to the police, who spend at least some of the time trying to catch the ££££ers
