Strange car history.

Reading about the history of mole's gull has reminded me about a car i have recently come across and the strange history it has. I was wondering if anyone had ideas as to whats going on, or how to find out more (i'm interested in buying). When i put the cars number plate into a vehicle check it comes out with this information. vehicle registration mark : KF02 LMU Make : others Model: unknown Body type : 4 door saloon (this matches) Colour : blue (this matches) Transmission and fuel type: Auto 6 gears, petrol (this matches) First registered : 25/03/2002 (this matches the reg) Year of manufacture : 1999 (no idea whats going on here?) I've done many vehicle checks now and have never came across anything like it. The really strange part is that it cannot possibly have been made in 1999 as the model simply wasn't in production then, 2001 is the first year it came out. The other weird thing is that because the check shows any other plates the car has had, it does have another plate before when it was first registered and this was in 1999, the plate being T311 CNH. When i checked the dvla for the tax and mot status, it has no record of the car. One other piece of information of note, is that when i put the reg into a tyre search (i wanted to see how much they would cost as it has pretty big tyres), it too says - Make : unknown, Model : others (or something along those lines). But interestingly it does come up with the correct tyre sizes for the car. Any input on why this is, or how to find out more would be much appreciated.

My 2003 Alfa 156 was manufactured in 1991 according to the DVLA. I think not..................

Post 785524 by Orca2 on 2015-09-11 21:16:46

Maybe the data registered has just been input incorrectly in the first place, i guess it happens, as for the DVLA they couldnt score in a barrel of fannies, data errors are their bread and butter. They sent me a letter a few years back revoking my licence, when I phoned them up to ask why the bloke said " oh its a mistake, just ignore it" an apology might have been nice!

what model / year is this meant to be Liam ??

The DVLA couldn't organise an troll in a VPCUK thread. Just check out their FOI response which is full of contradictions: https://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/removal_of_entitlements_and_lack

Quite possibly a 7er, the newer shape one as the dates Liam states are the cross over points for the older and new model. I.E the newer 2002 car wasn't available in 1999.

Post 785539 by Dangerous Dave on 2015-09-11 22:46:30

The 745i then

The DVLA seem to be awfully efficient at supplying address details to private companies issuing parking fines.
Yep, its a 2002 e65 745i. How did you find out what car it was supposed to be?
Was quite hard to find out, had to dig quite a bit through some lists cross referencing makes and models...... Nah LOL, I just entered the reg into the Eurocarparts.com reg search.

Post 785544 by Orca2 on 2015-09-11 23:43:41

If that works how come they always hand over the wrong bleedin part .

I'm a bit p***** off that the car check that i pay for didn't have that info on it.

Post 785547 by Orca2 on 2015-09-11 23:52:47

Might be worth checking with the dealers, my local one had quite a lot of info on file on my V70 . i dont know if the info is linked between dealers as they had serviced it for years when it was just a pup.
If that works how come they always hand over the wrong bleedin part .
Usually because there are several hundred variants of the same bloody part :)
Was hoping someone would have some "inside" knowledge perhaps ;) I checked a couple of tyre places but no parts places.
Sorry bud, I'm nowhere near that good
I'm a bit p***** off that the car check that i pay for didn't have that info on it.
Try Autotrader, enter the details to sell the car and it tells you if it has an accident history (works on my brothers wrecked 940) http://www.autotrader.co.uk/sell-my-car

Post 785550 by LiamT4 on 2015-09-12 01:00:30

No accidents or finance, the only issues are the plate changes and the weird 1999 manufacture date along with an old style number plate. Not that i should really be thinking of having a car that is just over 5m long, weighs 1900kg, and has a 4.5l v8 as a daily anyway................but its just so damn tempting.

Post 785552 by jamesy12345 on 2015-09-12 02:00:09

Japanese import maybe?? Or other RHD market 'My car check' picks up that it is a 745 https://www.mycarcheck.com/check/?reg_no=KF02+LMU T311CNH is on a Mercedes S-class

A guy on the BM forum I use has just picked up a 750iL. It's got everything including the original fax machine in the rear armrest!!!!!

Dvla don't know they're ass from elbows. They reckon my old civic should have one of 2 different number plates to what it currently has. This is after it passed a vic test & the fact the new owner has the full history with the car & the numbers match. I'm still receiving tax reminders even though I've had the letter confirming I'm not the registered keeper anymore. Similar a good mate of mine has a 1992 rx7 that is on an 02 plate as that's when it got imported. If it's straight & hpi clear I wouldn't be put off as some idiot in Swansea doesn't know the score.

I think what puts me off, is the sheer size of them. There's few narrow roads where i live and i often go devon and the east coast which, again, have many tight roads. Parking spaces wouldn't be fun either. I'm only a short arse too, so i my look a bit stupid driving one lol To be honest, having a car like a 7 or an s-class as a daily is just ludicrous.............but thats also a good thing! I can just imagine driving the 20 miles home from work, sat in those seats, hardly any noise, with that v8 just wafting along. Sounds a brilliant way of ending the working day.
