I've owned both series 1 & 2 Rs Turbo's & these cars were my last fords, I bought a Series 2 to se if it was any better than the series 1 which was quite honestly, Crap. I think this is a serious case of somebody getting carried away with living in the past: http://www.msn.com/en-gb/cars/news/%c2%a360000-ford-escort-rs-turbo-among-classic-car-auction-highlights/ss-CCfcbU?ocid=iehp

Yep, had a plethora (love that word) of Fast Fords. Have to agree with Biff, most are massively overrated, especially the FWD Escorts. They had fine handling for their day, but everything else was pants. Brakes were woeful at best and the amount of gearboxes I went through was frightening!

I noticed that & thought of you mate. Wonder how much crumps Turbo2 is worth from Wrexham? its absolutely stunning original condition. Steve I managed 3 gearboxes in 12 months, a full engine rebuild & turbo. The car had been kept immaculate & had covered 60k when I bought it. My Golf gti's & Astra gte's were in another league yet I doubt you would see them hit such a high amount.

Exactly Biff. Astre GTEs/GSis were bullet proof in comparison, always better specced and just as quick in standard form. I always thought that the MkII Astra looked loads better than the Mk3/4 Escort too. Plus, they had a digital dash - I loves me a digital dash, prob why I love my 480! The Fords usually had the edge in handling in srltandard trim, but that's about it. I killed 5 'boxes in just over a year, one of those was a standard Orion Ghia and another a lowly 1.6 carb Escort - all 90 rampaging horses were enough to kill the mainshaft!

Personally I think it's pointless paying so much cash (even if I had it) for cars like this.....so you spent 60K on a car, what next? Hide it in the garage & be too scared to drive it in case you wreck it or even worse you need to buy parts for it...!!? You could take just about any half decent car & build it up to a fantastic, reliable spec for that money.

This Ford nostalgia thing is getting silly, over on Volvo Tuning they were all getting excited over a picture of a mk2 RS2000,really? I had one when I was a kid, slow, unrefined, unreliable, and looked good why? Oh ,cos they stuck a plastic nosecone on a 1.3L,quality )-: 60k for an RS Turbo, you must be kidding, they were rubbish cars aswell lol

F506 DNA was the reg of my Escort RS Turbo....in 1990, I was 17 and turning up to College in an RS got me a certain amount of attention from both students and staff....especially as most were rocking Novas and Metros at the time pmsl. Was also running a black XR4i at the time......fond memories.
