You in the £290 or £500 tax, mine just scraped the £290 by 7 days

Yes it will be much better than the 5sp and the nearly bullet proof angle gear, mines on the original collar too, which was checked with the rebuild and still good.

Very nice
Post 793596 by BigGreg on 2015-12-21 22:32:03
Thanks chaps, what a warm welcome.
Yes reg Dec 05 so made the £290 road tax, actually thought it was the higher level so was well chuffed when it came up at £290.
Not sure on Mods. The rear sticker has gone already, I think he designed it that way to appeal to farmers or something.
Estienne, what kind of a brake pedal do you have? Must say this is nothing special and I feel as if really pressing to get the thing to pull up. I am used to power and decent brakes, these brakes need looked at.
The Interior will be a job to keep clean, carpets anyway. Guess i will order some rubber mats for the winter for a starter. Maybe a boot liner too. The seats should be fine, had a light grey leather interior in an ST220 a few years back and it was fine.
As for upgrades will take my time and see. My old 855R had some goodies on it but in the end the Koni's drove me to sell it as they were so stiff.
Will have a look for the rat catcher guard mentioned and get it off before I hit problems. Will keep you updated on progress, my plate should be on soon depending on DVLA Xmas post!!!
Post 793598 by BigGreg on 2015-12-21 22:33:00
Yes forgot to say, rear tints will be incoming very soon.
Post 793599 by Ettienne on 2015-12-21 22:57:43
I find the brakes progressive, harder the more you brake rather than getting it all at once then fading.
A good fluid flush, braided steel lines should help, go for some volvo oe pads and discs if needed.
My pedal is hard and ok
Post 793600 by Harvey on 2015-12-21 23:00:00
Could be the 3 way valve / switch at fault?
Post 793602 by Ettienne on 2015-12-21 23:31:33
I've not had that issue yet, have you got a link for it Harvey

Found it . If you have a leak on the vacuum pipe work to the servo this will happen , when you first thing put the key to run not start do you here the vac pump run for a while 30 sec or so to generate a vacuum for the servo then turn off.

Cheers Harvey! I don't think I've ever heard my pump, but then I've never had a problem with the brakes either!? Guess I'll be checking this tomorrow.

No definitely not what I have. Just a softish pedal compared with what I have been driving of late. Will get it sorted, probably just do the pads and shoes and new fluid in a oner. Sold my X5 for £17k so still have a few quid available to improve the R.

Your box will have the early valve body if it's not been updated, these can cause issues, less than £1000 changed. But wait til it plays up if indeed it does.

Lovely looker and a good year too. All the best with it.

So the update is as follows.
After a few weeks of driving I have concluded the following are my January priorities.
1. Rubber mats for the interior, for winter months. Ordered!
2. Rear windows need a tint. Booked for week of the 15th Jan.
3. Brakes are rubbish, will replace disks, pads, shoes and fluid. Ordered!
4. Lights are rubbish. Have ordered new Xenons.
Loving the car, in every way. Only negatives are, turning circle is a joke and don't like comfort chassis setting. Comfort seems too floaty at the front, I am running in sport mode everywhere. Not seen any rear end difference between the two settings as yet, might notice more once my brakes are sorted. :B_thumb:

Check with your local Dealer that your car has had the latest SUM software, this will improve things slightly by making them less 'crashy' but if the front end is 'floaty' then it's a sure sign your Shocks are at the end of their natural life. Mine behaved the same when I first got my car and new shocks all round made a massive and I mean, MASSIVE difference!!!
Also, if the front end is 'Vague', especially where the steering is concerned, you're more than likely find your Wishbone bushes are knackered.
You should also check at the rear of the car, underneath, that the rear level sensors are attached and more importantly, that they are not seized or broken. A very common failure and often overlooked as they are very small and well hidden, if not familiar with the car.
When these are not working the car behaves very oddly and the rear end will feel loose and very skittish.
Trust me when I say this, when the sensors are working correctly, the difference is night and day!!
There is lots on info and pictures on my project thread on how to repair/replace and check them :)

I was very lucky Alistair that had the car before me replaced all 4 shocks and springs on mine , the ride on advance is just to hard, sport mode is ok but the road surface needs to be very good. The car just stays on comfort.
But the subframe inserts do make a big difference. Well they did on mine...

Thanks guys. When I say floaty, I'm maybe not describing it well enough. It goes on the ramp next week so we will see whats what then. I know the level sensors on the rear work, as we checked on a four poster when we bought the car. But be assured both your threads have been poured over time and again already, both of you and Etienne will have a hand in creating the god like machine that is my intention!!! Bring on the mods.

Don't you just love it when you have been away all week working like a dog and you return only to find that the postman has come up trumps! First mods have arrived! Wife in a foul mood though, she didn't realise what was in the heavy boxes hence why Postie carried them in to Kitchen for her!!
