Got a last minute invite from a friend down to Mclaren Glasgow yesterday for a test drive of the potential replacement of his 997 turbo
After Porsche satnav taking us round the city first we arrived to find a showroom and car park full of Mclarens, such a strange site!
Quick introductions with the product genius (craig 22 yr old!!) we went through to have a look at the 570s, P1 and 650s. incredible is the only word i have to describe the P1, utterly incredible and correctly described as a hypercar
Then a brief show around the 570s demo and some car park revving before test drive time. its hard to describe really but for technically being the baby of the group its not small in performance thats for sure. although the 997 we traveled down in isn't really much slower or less special (in its hey-day maybe) the 570s just felt in a different league altogether! and that gearbox, i fell asleep last night tapping the carbon paddles (an upsetting expensive option) listening to the instant gear change in my head over and over......the buzz from 4k up the revs was spine tingling and i'm still smiling now, 3.8litre, twin turbo, 562hp, 600torques and 1300kg makes for a special combination.
Once all that excitement had finished i returned to find my pal punching his pin number in the card machine, summer build slot booked and trip to mclaren HQ confirmed! basic book price 140k, friends specced his at 173k........eeeek! it would appear that buying a perfectly timed build slot can be a money maker in itself nowadays, he can sell his slot to some arab/banker that must have a car for the summer...mental!
Heading back homeward it started the discussion, the 540s & 570s is fully marketed as a sportscar, the 650s & 675lt a supercar and the P1 as hyper car. We reckoned that anything over 100k is surely a supercar, but it would appear in today's world obviously not?
Me personally i'd have numerous cars, bikes and toys for 170k but what a bloody car!! i've left my details so when the towbar option is released i can get my order in.....couple pics below.
Someones in for a nice xmas pressie
