Hello all, I thought I'd drop in here and introduce myself. My name is John and I've had a wide variety of cars in my time, ranging from 3 litre Capris through a couple of Opel Monza 3 litre straight 6 coupes, a couple of Renault Laguna V6s (also 3 litre..... some kind of theme going on here? lol) but never had a Volvo until now! After living abroad (in the Far East) for a few years I decided on something different when I returned to the UK. I finally decided upon a phase one C70 convertible (I didn't have the budget for a later phase 2 hardtop model), and after lots of research I quickly discounted the 2.0LPT model as being too underpowered for my tastes. I just knew if I bought one, I'd immediately be hankering for more performance from it, so that left the T5 as being the obvious choice for me. This is my pride and joy, and gives me a huge grin every time I hear that 5 cylinder growl. Definitely bitten hard by the Volvo bug now, and it sure won't be my last Volvo (although I won't be in any hurry to replace this one as it's only done 67,000 miles on an 02 plate, so barely run-in lol)

Welcome :) I've just added a C70 ragtop to my fleet too. Lovely cars. If you find it a bit... Erm... Wobbly, a strut brace help out no end. I stuck one on mine and it makes a big difference, still not "stiff" but loads better. Oh, I'm selling my Capri if you fancy another and like welding!
Welcome :) Oh, I'm selling my Capri if you fancy another and like welding!
Thanks but I already scratched that itch a long time ago lol ..... my very first car when I passed my test was a Mk1 1600GT, followed by a 2 litre Ghia, a 3 litre Ghia and finally a 3 litre JPS edition one. Great fun in the wet but I think maintaining one now would be a bit more of a challenge than I'm prepared for! lol A strut brace is high on my shopping list as some of the roads in my neck of the woods are a bit bumpy to put it mildly. Definitely not planning to replace the stereo though as I went for one with the SC901 prologic set up which sounds pretty damned good. You're not going to get a spotty oik slashing the roof to nick it.... who wants a stereo with a cassette deck in it, for god's sake? lol Instead, I just fitted a Yatour ipod adaptor and use an ipad mini with a magnetic vent mount (so it's quick and easy to remove) which does the trick nicely apologies for the poor pic quality.... notice the eye watering average MPG I'm currently getting (15.9MPG). I really need to stop using the loud pedal so much!

Yeah, wait 'til you get it mapped with a nice burbly exhaust (it WILL happen, always does) your economy will nosedive even more then, close relation to increase in grin factor! ;) Might be worth turning your A/C off though, every little helps! Can't say I think much of your music choice though...

Post 793996 by johnboy999 on 2015-12-30 01:21:16

Honest.... that's not my usual musical taste lol. I was listening to Uptown Funk which is about the only decent song on that album! Generally, it's Rammstein, Muse, Kasabian ..... I'm sure the map and other mods will come along later when the time is right, but I only had the car 6 weeks so haven't had time to get bored with it yet! I definitely want to upgrade the brakes before I give her any more power, don't really inspire me with as much confidence as I would like. All in good time though.
