So a friend of mine just got an S40. And it seems it has this 'feature' of locking itself automatically - problem was both the main key and the spare key were in the car when this happened! :slap:
Any ideas? (brick through window has been considered and dismissed!)

Are either of you in any breakdown associations? The AA came and "broke into" my Volvo 480 when I was away and my parents needed it moving from where it was on their drive. I'm sure most/all will do it for you.

As suggested, AA or RAC will do it for you.
Either that, or if it's on the road the Police may help.... or you might know some people with experience of breaking into cars that could help you.............
Lesson learnt : Do not leave both master and spare key in the car! :slap: :troutslap

brick through window and then claim off insurance for it? shouldnt even affect your no claims, and will only cost you the excess.
maybe worth reading up on your insurance policy before doing this mind you, make sure you will be covered by random brick through glass lol

LOL I had this very same problem on Wednesday, when I attempted to fit remote central locking (not finished yet)...I was at it from 4 pm,finally got into the car at 9.20...in the rain and cold..man I was "annoyed" Luckily my cop spec T5 estate has manual windy windows in the back,so I managed to hook the winder with a bit of wire, after levering out the top of the door with a wide bolster chisel and cloths. After moving the winder 180 degrees,I managed to ge a thin piece of metal to push it down another 180,again with the wire, until I got my hand in...I'm sure this car hates me!
I used to be a recovery driver under contract to the AA etc,and have got into many cars, but Volvo's are tough! Best claim to fame was getting into an ex-securicor van, that was now being used to carry drilling equipt-usued a very unorthodox way of opening it,but I'll keep it to myself!

It actually came from Dundee too! It had been lying in the grounds of Ninewells hospital for years!

I'd ditto that answer.
A wedge of wood pushed in between the door and the car to give you a gap and then see if you can hjook the internal release with a bit of stiff wire with a loop on the end. It took one of the guys at my yard less than five minutes to break into a MR2 equiped with a cliford alarm that had locked itself whilst the engine was still running!.

Just be careful you dont give yourself too much room and warp the door (and/or shatter the glass)...

not 100% sure, but wont the deadlocks be on? (it will have deadlocks, but im not sure of exactly how they arm on these, thought it was automatic?) if so will that create a problem?
Post 61881 by Tiff_T5 on 2005-12-02 21:18:29
The internal release is just about impossible to "hook", and if the deadlocks have activated, they are useless anyway! The drivers door panel was off on my car,so the door release was easy to hook, but it comes back past 12 o' clock,so the wire just slips off...The brick was my next option too...!

Right the AA man came in the foul weather, and hammered a wedge between door and frame. He inserted a blow-up bag thing in the gap next to it and puffed it up so much as to insert a metal rod into the cabin. He tried to hook the driver's door and got it, but as mentioned here the deadlocks stopped that working. For some silly reason the s40 has exposed lock 'titties' (what are they called properly? - titties will do :) ) so he tried to pull one of these up but failed (so glad mine go in on my 850). With the right tool tho it'd be a doddle. So he went for the keys dangling in the ignition and with some prodding managed to get the right button. Bingo it unlocked. But it did take a good 30 minutes.
Thanks for all the tips, and I recommend any S/V40 owners to clip off the top of those titties! So get playing with those titties this weekend!

Ths happened to me in the middle of no-where on my last car, luckily due to the heat i'd left the window slightly down - as it was a convertable i managed to get my hands through the window and release the roof. Luckily my GF was there to point this out as the alarm was going ape and was out to brick the window.

The tool for this job is that plastic strapping you get on large boxes..If you have a car with "titties" and no deadlocks..30 secs and I'm in.Take 'em off and stick some LED'S in the 'oles.

i did it with a v50 on a customer driving day we organised recently.
unbeknown to me the customer left the key in the car and whilst we were talking the thing locked itself.
someone had to hotfoot it back to the dealership for the spare. i didnt get too much of a ribbing ......
damn autolock.
dont know if this works with v50/new s40 but on the old model if you hold down the central locking button until the locks go down/up you disable the autolock and enter valet mode for anybody who doesnt like it. press and hold again , and it's back to normal.

Reminds me of work a few weeks ago, flash Renault Megane came in with a suspected noisy wheel bearing.I left the keys in the ignition, and put the car up on the ramp.I spun the drivers front wheel, and the car locked itself....Anti-hijacking seemingly...locks when you go above 5 mph..Had to send the woman home for her spare keys, she wasn't best pleased!

Yeah... Most renaults have that, I had it in my Clio... good, until you have an accident and find the doors locked :slap:
