Morning all, Do k&n air filters actually make any difference or is it just a waste of money? Thanks

To performance, no. For noise, yes.
Stock air boxes aren't even remotely restrictive until you're way over 300bhp, you'll just gain some wooshy whistly noises and probably even lose a pony or two due to heat soak.
Do you think would help or hinder the engine?
Morning all, Do k&n air filters actually make any difference or is it just a waste of money? Thanks
I would stick a panel filter in the standard air box if u want to keep performance .thats what I did with my v70 .if u want noise then big group a filter is the way to go
I run a standard volvo filter in air box and it's the best out of the lot ive tried group a filters and pannel filters to no difference at all.
Ah OK which one gives best sound. Guessing that's an k&n then?
If you want more noise then get a group A big cone filter, you won't see any noticeable difference in power as the Volvo standard air box is a great design. K&N, PiperCross, Ramair are all good and cheap
I run over 300BHP with standard Box and filter swapped back from the above picture and noticed an improvement especially in summer time traffic. A mate also runs over 400BHP with standard air box and filter. I was once shown what an after market filter had done to my turbo blade shocking! ever since i have used genuine air filters and just changed more often they are cheap as chips and as has been said above heat soak is reduced in hot conditions. Red brick has the set up you posted and has no complaints with it but if you have a standard set save your self money and stick with OEM
I had a BMC cda on my old t4 and i loved it, yeah there's no performance gains, but it made a a great noise with an aluminium cold air feed. There are different sizes though, so don't get the small one. Oh, and the noise can depend on what boost your running.
I put a K&N panel filter in my 63 plate D5. There was a noticeable change in that is more free reving. Most noticeable accelerating off roundabouts. Not too sure what difference the cone filter would make to the sound of yours as it's a diesel.
