The sweed is sitting in the carpark at my trusted local MOT place, awaiting this year's failures... Tyres? Track rods? Emissions? Lights? Probably all of the above to be honest, I've not had much time to work on her the last few months - I've still not got round to fitting the 19t! If she doesn't fail too badly today, I'll have her off the road for a while and pamper her a bit :) (that's if the MOT repairs don't financially cripple me lol)

please don't tell me you've not even bothered to check all the lights work hope it passes tho

I checked / changed the lights last night but since fitting the led headlights, there might be an issue there.
I checked / changed the lights last night but since fitting the led headlights, there might be an issue there.
i used to get advisory for having white LED's in the sidelight (wrong colour) so you may get the same for that

Failed. Headlights and knackered windscreen wiper. A few advisories but I've not seen the paperwork yet, I'll report back on that later.

Surprised at that, you're not giving me much hope of getting this Renault through an MOT...the Sweed looked in good nick last time I saw it

Post 795004 by M-R-P on 2016-01-13 13:49:58

It's in great nick for 220k, the advisories are probably handbrake and track rods. I knew the wiper was shot but didn't have time to buy one. Mechanically, she's sweet as.

Frankly, I'm surprised it passed the emissions test, what with the sports cat and greens :)

Easy stuff at least you'll be able to make Dyno and ace cafe

Post 795008 by M-R-P on 2016-01-13 15:11:17

Yep. Gonna get the ticket sorted for another year and start fiddling with it again. Rear brakes will be on the list as well as finally getting that 19t on. Tranny flush and service will be first on the list tho.

So, the advisories were front tyres worn close to legal limit, o/s track rod worn, rear droplinks. I'll get those sorted shortly along with... Transmission flush. Handbrake overhaul. Steering flush. Brake/clutch flush. Service. Bloody good clean inside and out.

I was thinking of getting a PAS fluid flush on my car, is it fairly easy and cheap (if not doing it myself)?

Post 795725 by M-R-P on 2016-01-28 10:32:55

2 bottles of Volvo steering fluid and a big syringe. Empty reservoir, fill with clean, steer lock to lock a few times and repeat until fluid looks clean. Usually takes about 1.5 bottles.

Well that's this weekend's entertainment sorted... Image Image Image All that for 120 quid :)

Use genuine Volvo stuff - it's not cheap but it won't screw the seals in the rack. About 18 quid a bottle iirc.

Nice to see a bit of TLC mate , hope you can get it done without hitting any problems.

Post 795814 by M-R-P on 2016-01-29 19:11:37

Off round a mate's place in a bit. He's got a much bigger garage than me :) After I fit his led headlights, he'll be handing me spanners while I work on the sweed.

So far I managed the power steering fluid flush, brake/clutch system flush, the handbrake refresh and one of the rear droplinks. I'm determined to get it done by the end of the month but time really is at a premium this month. I can't do the oil/filter change until the new core for the 19t arrives so the next job will be track rods and tranny flush. Updates to follow.

Post 796038 by M-R-P on 2016-02-02 20:02:57

Managed to do the tranny flush today. What came out was worrying. Smelly, dark, sparkly oil that's only been in there since I had the clutch done - about 20k. There's a good chance it had full synth in it.

Give me a shout if need any help with the track rods / checking the geometry after, might be able to lend a hand if time allows. (Have 4 wheel alignment kit at work, only down the road) Dave

Awesome dave - thanks. I'll pm you shortly.

Well, as you've probably seen, the core is in, the oil and filter has been changed (cheap oil for now, good stuff going in soon) and all is well. Track rod tonight and hopefully the other rear droplink. Feeling pretty pleased :)
