Just noticed PFV are now doing a copy of the big PCV hose (the expensive one) and wondered if anyone has used this yet.

Slightly tempted, but also mindful of the old saying "buy cheap buy twice".
I know Lee will be along soon to tell me only to use all Volvo parts and change 20 related components at the same time at a cost 50 squillion quid!

How could I not reply to your post seeing as you've mentioned my name!?
I'm a big believer in doing a job right and doing it once, so mock me all you like.
Regards the hose....it's a good idea of PFV to copy a relatively expensive part from Volvo, which actually costs £99 (after discount). However, seeing as the OE hose is easily good for 100,000 miles, my question to you would be (seeing as you already said it..Slightly tempted, but also mindful of the old saying "buy cheap buy twice")...
By the time you factor in the £9.18 postage, is it really worth trying to save £42 on a part that lasts so long, against walking into your local main dealer and buying the genuine item, that in my eyes gives you peace of mind and longevity?? :gossip:

Not mocking you Lee, just being facetious :duck: Your R is a credit to your diligent approach and if it were ever for sale and I was in the market for one it'd be an opportunity not to be missed. The money no object approach isn't for everyone though. With this particular part my common sense is telling me it'd probably be a gamble not worth taking as this isn't a job I'd want to do twice, or pay someone to do twice, if that pattern part fails in short time.

No, you are right, it's not worth it. And I'd begrudge paying that much on postage for a hose too. I'm not privvy to Volvo discounts so the genuine article would be more expensive but still not worth scrimping.

Only £11 more!
They retail at £110 and if you ask nicely at the Dealer, they may give you 10% for being an older than 4 years car!
If you take your time on the PCV repair, it's actually a fairly simple job. Mistakes are made if you rush and don't plan. Allow 2 days to do it comfortably without rushing. Take photos as you go and lay stuff out on the floor in order of removal...then you can't get it wrong. Label it if you must with paper and put nuts and bolts in bags and place next to items.

I know I could do it myself, I'm perfectly capable, but time is the issue these days. With a 2.5 year old boy and a 5 month old daughter I rarely have time to scratch my own arse these days let alone maintain the car. Cambelt needs doing too so going to get both jobs done in a oner. Had a rare bit of overtime this month so I can actually splash the cash for the first time in ages, again a rarity with two young mouths to feed!
