Hi all, thought I'd give my self a quick introuduction as just joined the forum,my names Shaun live at Holmfirth (last of the summer wine country) as some may know it,just bought my self a s40 2ltr td sport 55 plate the other week, I previously owned a Toyota landcruiser Colorado so quite abit of deference, not really driven it yet bar the short ride home due to it breaking down(not a good start),was nice drive while it lasted up the motor way then came off onto the tops where we live and all of a sudden it took off like it had just been rearended up the ass by a wagon at 90,had to stall it in 6th as wouldn't turn off, going to garage on Monday but been told might be turbo gone, hope that's all as abit of a put off at first.il get some photos up when I get it back on the road fingers crossed.

Hi all, just a quick update, Well finally got the car back had to have new starter motor and alternator and wasn't running right at first and handling was really poor,so took it back and kicked off as you do,they had to fit new bottom arm bushes the ones to the rear of the front bottom arms,a lot better now.filled car up with diesel but doesn't seem to be doing that good to be fare only done 180 mile on just over half a tank thought it might of done abit more to be fare? My mondeo does a hell of a lot more does any one on here have this problem as would be nice to know.

I'm confused. Is that all you had replaced, or did you also have a new turbo? BTW, My R does 200 miles on half a tank, so your Derv has got some serious running issues mate. :eye-poppi Back to the garage you go fella..:buttkick: Also, don't even think about trying to fix this problem yourself mate. If you tamper with the car in anyway to try and fix it, unsuccessfully and try and take it back to the garage at a later date, the garage are well within their rights to tell you to 'Jog on'! You could still have a turbo issue (which of course is still under warranty), so take it back to the garage and explain to them your issues. Let them fix it for FREE!!

Hi leet5,no the turbo went and took the engine out with it so stalling it start away didn't help,I was just saying that when they fitted the second hand engine the alternator packed in and the starter motor only a day after getting it back,I'm taking the motor back on Monday to have it looked at and a scratch painted what they did while it was with them,as for the mpg thought that couldn't be right so will be telling them over that aswell god this car is starting to piss me off, well il try and keep my chin up and hope it's sorted very soon

Swap the knackered Alternator and starter from your new (secondhand engine) and replace with the known 'working' units from your goosed engine. Simples!

Funny you say that Lee,that's just what I said but they said the second hand engine didn't come with them they were off my old unit,to which I replied "well they were fine in that one no problems at all" then I got well they must of been on there way out and the removal of them and refitting must of just finished them off, wish I'd of never taken it there now.well lesson learnt and hopefully once theses probs are sorted won't need it to go again fingers crossed.

These are the reasons I go petrol only .a manual t5 will do that mileage on half a tank easy .the only diesel I would have if had to would be a d5 manual .shame really because they are a good looking car and handle well too .i seen and read so many of them ford/Volvo units 2.0 diesel blowing up its not good

The garage is called turner brothers at Holmfirth, got to admit they are normally very good I've used them for years now. Well done 280m now and fuel gauge in the red,I wouldn't mind if I'd been hammering it all the time it it's been driven quite steady maybe that's the problem:worried:

Looks nice and i love those wheels. Just got an s40 2.4 for the mrs, just an SE though not a sport, and i have to say it drives much better than my s60.

Must admit it goes round corners well feels very firm, especially with the bushes done now.

Well got it back to garage today and told them the problems like only 280m to a full tank of diesel, knocking noise and a couple of other things so let's hope they get them all sorted now, picking it back up on Thursday.

Post 803811 by Sag74 on 2016-08-06 00:05:47

Well got the car back today AGAIN ,they said they have give it a terraclean as couldn't find any other fault with it and told to try that,I've heard it's good but don't think it's going to help me get more than 280m to £45 of diesel as that's all mine holds, well going to give it a run out next week so we will see.

Depending on what you pay that could be less than 40 litres. Does that mean it's the one with a small tank so Euro IV with DPF, maybe that is the culprit for 30-odd mpg
