I'm looking into possibly getting some Michelin Cross climate tyres for the mrs S40. Reason being that they have a decent level of grip in snowy or icy conditions but still work well in normal and wet conditions. She only does about 4000 miles a year but i still want them to last a decent amount of time. They sound excellent but it would be nice to hear from somebody who's actually had them.

As you know, winter tyres are a softer compound. So using them in the summer is a no no really as they won't last 5 minutes. I've never used them but looking on Blackcircles....they get good reviews. If she only does 4000 miles a year I would use a Mid range Tyre rather than a premium brand.

We work closely with Pirelli and their winter tyre have only a 10% efficiency loss compared with there summer tyres in warmer weather. They just wear a little quicker. I ran winters on the front of 850 a few years ago (when I used it as a daily) and they were good.

The main point with the Michelin cross climate tyres is that they are actually a summer tyre but, because of the tread design, they work well enough in the winter conditions for them to be able to carry the winter mark. This means they, supposedly, don't wear as quick as a full winter. They do get good reviews, it's just that i do know anyone who has actually used them.

I have cross climate tyres on my mk5 golf but there was no winter to speak of last year to test them, they've been fine in all other respects though. I'll probably buy another set to put on the winter wheels for the s60, I don't think the ad08's will do well in winter.....

I have been running a set of Uniroyal All Seasons experts on my V70 and am pretty impressed. It is a standard 2.4 petrol so I having been caning it around the place but overall handling and grip is fine, plus they are a fair bit quieter than some I have had before and wear rate is very good, considering the softer compound.
