Hi all,
I have my XC90 booked in this Friday for a ECU remap, EGR delete and terraclean, the remap is being supplied by Quantum Tuning. My vehicle year is 2007, it has about 70K on the clock and has been regularly services at Volvo, I have just purchased it secondhand,
I have done some research online but not getting any solid hits and not much on Quantum Tuning.
Has anyone here had any experience with remapping and terraclean, I am hoping for some words of wisdom and shared experiences.
My motive is to get a bit more performance lower down the revs, at the moment the car is sluggish and maybe also improve on the MPG. My biggest concern is ending up breaking my car that didn't need fixing in the first place. Online I found some references to engines blowing up or having issues following a remap.
I know the advice would be if not broken then dont fix it but when I have an idea in my mind i end up seeing it through.
I would be grateful for any comments and advice.
Thanks in advance,
Taz

Terraclean gets a mixed reaction, some people love it, some people say it does nothing. As I've never had a car terracleaned, I can't say who is right. I've never heard of Quantum Tuning, so can't teally help you with that.

I'd be very careful as to where to take a Volvo, recently an aquantance took his to regal Motorsport (well known for Audis) and ecu was locked out car immobilised, I put regal in touch with someone for advise and even now it runs terrible as they just didn't want to do anything other than get it out the door.
Take it to a Volvo specialist or with a good track record tuning them.
My xc90 is no dpf, no cat and mapped, not happy with my map but I've made improvements to the car to get up to scratch and will be looking at shark for a remap.
With before and after Dyno graph, unless of course it performs well this weekend on the Dyno then there is no point lol.

Thanks both.
The garage i am taking it to claim they have remapped XC90's and have had good outcomes but I can only take thier word on it. They seem to have good reviews on facebook but I have never used them before. http://www.raytechauto.co.uk/

If reliability after the remap isn't important then there should be nothing much to worry about.

Shark want £750, last map was £200-250 ish.
I think £750 is a bit too much for a stage 1 map for mine.
I'll see how it performs on Sunday on the Dyno.
I wonder if the traction control is affecting the result, I don't think it can be turned off easily on an xc90, it's not the same as the R's and hasn't even got a button lol

I can offer you MTE's Swedish written calibrations for your car that for £395 including VAT that will give you increased outputs of 225hp with 480nm of torque.
MTE, based in Sweden, only offer software for Volvos and I have been representing them here for nigh on 20 years.
You install these calibrations yourself using MTE's Softloader interface to connect your car's OBD port to an XP or later windows laptop operating in XP compatible mode. I loan that Softloader against a fully returnable deposit of £155.

I have had a Viezu re-map on a 2011 D2 115bhp. I was very nervous before hand but am delighted with it. It gives 145bhp and 245 lb ft torque (at 2,000 rpm). For the serious petrol (diesel?) heads, no I haven't put it on a rolling road. I just drive it and enjoy it so frankly I really don't care if those numbers are dead accurate or not. It just feels great to drive. It cost £350 inc VAT (I got a deal).
Quantum Tuning look to be a major player - "We are the UK’s largest remapping service dealer group/franchise with over 600 dealers and 1000+ Approved Installation Centres".
They have 419 reviews on Trust Pilot which can be found here:
https://uk.trustpilot.com/review/quantumtuning.co.uk
Their score is a very impressive 9.5/10 which says it all really. Their agents must map 1,000s of cars a week. On that basis I wouldn't think twice about using them.
Have a look at what a RICA remap will give you - this should work:

I only point you here as they are one of the best at showing what their stage 1 remap offers. My local indy Volvo specialist (20 years experience, very well regarded) are a RICA dealer. They wouldn't be if it was crap.

Don at Kalmar, how does it work if the OBD port is 'locked', as it is on my 2011 C30? The guy who did my re-map had to remove the ECU to do it. Perhaps the Softloader circumvents this?

Since the demise of the old P2 cars Volvo have carefully implemented a program of PINCODE BANDITRY which is incorporated in all the current production. This also effects the small, now discontinued, S40, V50 etc plus the old XC90 from about '09 onwards.
It prevents the introduction, manipulation, whatever you want to call it, of virtually every computer controlled function in these vehicles.... NOT just the engine management, there is effectively a toll to be paid during the life of these vehicles on every software upgrade required during routine servicing and maintenance . It locks out all but Volvo dealers and those outside the system who subscribe to it. Volvo have gone considerably further than their competition in that their system is vehicle specific with the further barrier of different pincodes in each vehicle for different aspects of software control over various functions.
It is a fundamental breach of one of the cornerstone EU tenets, that of not exploiting a dominant market position.
It stinks... period.
In respect of engine management there are work arounds which involve opening the ECU and flashing directly into the unprotected chip. Quantum and Shark dealers have the kit to do this, presently I do not have anything to offer... despite the fact that MTE have a full library of their callibrations for all Volvos in current production that they offer in Sweden.
Presently MTE's Softloader cannot bypass this BANDITRY, nor can any other similar device.
