Hi all Just bought my first volvo & hoping I get as much enjoyment out of it as I have done with many other marques & models i've had. So far things look promicing - its quiet fast, easy to drive and has acres of room - even the wife is impressed! It's not the quickest thing off the blocks but I have been suprised with its general performance and cruising ability so far. Only cost £500, with 142,000 miles 10 month MOT and full service history So far I've done a fuilds & filters service + spark plugs and going to be fitting rear discs & pads soon due to their state (there might be issues with calipers?) Although it was only serviced about 9 months ago I was supprised at how little oil was in the sump (less than 2 litres) and there was no warning light showing. Do these engines use oil? there is no smoke from exhaust? The car has basically been used as dog transport for the last 3 years so it was a bit ripe inside, which is slowly going. As such the leather has suffered a little as the ower had it valeted regular (dirty dogs) but the chemicals they've used has stripped the colour of them. I'll be posting some of my exploits with the car and hopefully share in the wealth of knowledge on this site. Cheers Andy

There's a few things to look out for with the early p2 cars but if it's running OK for now, they've probably been fixed. The engine holds 5.2L of oil but not all of it comes out when changing. 2l sounds low tho, worth monitoring for a while. Lack of power could be down to a number of things but often, with a car that age, the actuator on the turbo gets weak and needs tightening a bit. Welcome aboard :)

Welcome to the forum! This lot like pics, so get some up of your lovely motor(s) :) A basic starting point is a stage 0 tune, make sure everything is up to scratch before delving deeper into running issues. This thread is a bit old (and covers an older model), but has the basics. http://www.vpcuk.org/forums/showthread.php?217-Stage-0-Tune-Up As for oil, I'm not sure about the later models but the earlier models only have an oil pressure sensor, once it drops below a certain pressure, the dash light comes on. So usually by the time the light comes on there is something quite serious going on.

Cheers Andy[/QUOTE] :welcome: 9 times out of 10 its the cables that seize up, not the calipers. Make sure you replace both rear cables as these are known for corroding and binding. Do that first before you change the calipers  Volvo's own leather cleaner and treatment kit is very good for rejuvenating your seats and making them smell like cow not dog.
