Hi all I'm very new to this, and very new to Volvo Lots off questions to ask Many thanks Lee
:welcome: which flavour Volvo do you bring to us?
Welcome :) Sent from my SM-N9208 using Tapatalk
Sorry just working out how to operate this site I have found my self the proud owner of a V70 T5 and loving it. Only this is I found very poorly to day ,decided to spill all its oil onto the floor
Welcome along. Sorry to hear of your troubles. What phase V70 is it? P1 finished around 2000 P2 finished around 2007 P3 after that We like pics too when you figure it out :)
Hi yes it's a p1 Well that's something I have just learned p1,thanks for that I've been driven my triumph spitfire for a long time, great in summer not to good when cold Now discovered turbo ,brilliant
Got to love the turbo action! Welcome to the club!
Yes loving turbo, but I now need to learn from you people How do I get more power out of the T5 ,without going over the top Any advice!
Welcome along. Best performance mod you can do right now is a full stage zero (google it) Your bound to have lost quite a few ponies since it rolled out of the factory many moons ago, so restoring the car to best OE condition will stand you in good stead. Next will be exhaust - manifold, downpipe & cat back. Quickly followed by bigger turbo, injectors & IC. Plus a remap to get the best out of the mods. From there on in it'll get expensive...brakes, suspension, bigger turbo , forged bottom end , ported & polished head..etc..etc.. Have fun. Cheers, Morgan
I found reading through this site very useful to see what works: http://wothrline.com/main.htm As Morgan says above making sure the car is in good nick before starting is a good idea. After that a replacement cat back exhaust & a remap will relatively cheap compared to the benefits you get - a bit more power is available & the extra noise will make you feel a little more connected with the drive. Then where you go next with the car depends very much on time & money available!! If you decide on something just post it up before you spend the cash - that is what the forum is all about, people will give you advice on what (not) to do
Thanks for all that ,,,,bit scary Ok so let's start slowly. CHANGE the back box Would this make the car noisy! The big thing I like about the Volvo is what a shock it is to people when it takes off , puppy with big teeth :dgrin: I have also been told that a better air filter would be good before I put it on a rolling road . So am I heading in the right direction Ps anyone got a second hand performance exhaust for sale :nut:
Don't bother with the air filter. The standard paper one is good for north of 300bhp. Changing the cat back section of the exhaust for a freer flowing one will reduce back pressure & free up a good few pit ponies. Combine with a map, as mentioned above, and you'll be up to about 250-60 bhp, possibly more as you've got a 16t turbo. You didn't mention if yours is manual or auto - if auto then your going to be have to be very careful going for power or you'll melt the box. Get it flushed & fresh ATF before looking into an additional cooler for the auto box. Google is your friend - many have trod the path before you. Learn from their mistakes. It'll save you a fortune.
^^^^ Excellent advice there ^^^^ Mine's an auto and chasing down 300. Bum dyno suggests around 280/290 at the moment. They can take a surprising amount of abuse, but heat is the enemy. My runs on the strip have started getting progressively slower on consecutive runs and I've cooked the ATF in about 18 months. A cooler is next on the shopping list, plus getting rid of the one built into the rad removes the risk of it splitting and ruining the 'box. What year is your V70? If it's pre ME7 (throttle cable and distributor) then remaps cost buttons now. ME7 (no throttle cable or distributor) expect to pay £400 ish for a decent map. Either way, a good map is EVERYTHING on these.
Welcome to the forum! Get some pics up of you motor :)
Got to love the turbo action! Welcome to the club!
Anyone spot the Volvo? (and the grey Audi that is still there in the same place in this years google street view)
You'll be working the 16t very hard to go past 280bhp, a downpipe with race cat or decat will make a good difference with a catback. If you can spare a few hundred quid, a bigger turbo and a remap to suit will see very nice gains.
Cant add much more than these guys have said already except welcome aboard and enjoy your ride.
Welcome matey
Thanks guys for all your help ,and the warm welcome I'm a long way away from even trying to understand all you have said here.I truly appreciate your efforts to make me a better racing mechanic But I really am a beginner, please be patient with me and I will succeed Thanks Lee
Well good news on the oil leek,it done Mechanic says it was cam shaft oil seal My question to all you professionals is if one oil seal goes are the others questionable ! Should I be looking at replacing them all ! Anyway it's back on the road ,,,brilliant ,,,
I'd check the pcv (breather system) as a blockage can cause seals to rupture. Go for a drive and get the engine up to running temperature then pull over. With the engine idling, pull the dipstick out. If there's puffs of smoke, like a steam train, the breather system needs sorting. If it is a pcv issue, get it sorted asap as a blown rear main seal is a potentially expensive problem.
Cheers for that Got the weekend of,so I will take your advice and give it a run Also need to give it a good clean More oil over the back of the car ,than there is in the sump
Hi guys ,once again I'm looking for advice I'm going to change the back box as advised ! But don't want to make any silly amateur mistakes Please please can anyone steer me in the right direction Any make , and what should I be expected to pay Thanks
Give Don Norchi at Kalmar Union a call I think he still stocks Ferrita systems. And he knows his stuff when it comes to T5's he also has some good well priced maps for your car. Ps welcome aboard. the v70 T5 is great fun the chavs can't believe what happened to them when they see one go.
Cheers for that now I'm on my way And yes the silly little boys don't believe it when the Volvo goes by
