Hi all,
Got the grandkids and the dog to exercise this afternoon and just happened to come across a mint 1997 V70 T5 auto in turquoise, which was on the driveway of a local trader.
Had a quick chat and it turns out that it has been in the same family since new and stands at 75k miles with a full history. The online MOT history looks pretty good as well.
There is not a mark on it inside or out although looking underneath there looks like there is a bit of oil leaking although not pooling on the floor.
It has got a cloth interior which is showing very little wear at all. The guy is going to move it on in the next few weeks and I know it stands him at £1200, although he didn't say what he would take for it.
Am I tempted, yes, but what is it worth and what is the spares situation now for a 20 year old car?
BTW the reg is P626 NDB if anyone has come across it.
Regards to all.

Sounds a fair price for a good low miles example. He's a dealer though, so it'd be rude not to hit him up for a bit of discount. Go in at a grand & see if he bites. Don't forget to get a bit of warranty of him invade something major goes south in the first three months. You'll have a bit of protection over a private sale - however he may insist on spares or repairs/sold as seen as its a lot of car for little money.

How can it owe a dealer 1200? I reckon it owes him 800 tops.

He is a Mate of a mate so to speak but he was saying that he had given £1200 for the car but because of its increasing rarity he didn't know how to price it. Are we saying that £1200 is the retail price?

I was thinking he had bought it for less than that, then spent some money & time on it
Offer him 1250 then :)

Just out of interest I called to see the above car but it had already been moved onto his son's car lot in Sale. He told me if I was interested I could have it for £2K and that his son had already stuck it up for £2,600.
I know it is a mint low mileage one owner car but it seems a lot for what is a standard 20yr old V70 T5.

I'm in the wrong job I think. I wonder how many hours he spent on it to get from the 1200 quid it owes him up to 2600.

I'm in Sale.
Tell me where his son's lot is so I can point and laugh at him

I couldn't tell you mate, I didn't ask because I wasn't going to go.

Apart from a wash/wax and a bit of tyre wall black he has done nothing to it, but that's some dealers for you.

The R21 in my signature (affectionately known as Frankenstein's Ball Bag) cost me 500 quid, then a further 1800 quid in bits, work & transport...& I think I'll struggle to sell it for over 2k :) hats off to the man who gets a V70 into decent fettle for 1200 quid all in, then sells it for 2600

Definitely one of your better names, that!
