How do I find out what the final drive ratio is from the white sticker on a m66 gearbox ?

9482432 is the Volvo part no for the box . for a 2005 - 2009 S60/V70 6 speed D5 . Do you know the engine code the gearbox came from. as my book links engine code to final drive gear.

Are you sure 9482432 is the gearbox part number coz when I search for it comes up blank. I haven't a clue on the original cars engine code.

Going by this info . Image Image

I'm trying to find a xc/awd diesel gearbox. If I could translate the m66 label it would make it easier to find a xc/awd diesel gearbox.

Also from the photo of your book it mentions engine code, am I right in thinking the engine code is the third & second from the end of the VIN number ?

This should help. Image Image Image

from that my donor v70 awd came with a M56 gearbox and was 2 wheel drive. From the mountain of paperwork I've got 2 VIN numbers YV1L5603M2414590 and VY1LS5646W1414590

Having done some digging, the replacement PN for 9482432 is 8252153. Seems to be matched with with engine codes D5244T4/T5 2006-2009. Can't find any info on ratios though, looking at the image above it may be the M66D The first VIN seems to match the closest (but seems to be missing a letter after L)... YV1L5603M2414590 - L is the model code for 850/S70/V70, 56 is engine code B5254T, 0 is the emission code, 3 is the transmission code M58. Factory code is Ghent, Belgium YV1LS5646W1414590 - (L for s70/V70, S for 4 door, 56 for B5254T engine, 4 for emissions, 6 for Auto box, W for 1998). Factory code is Torslanda, Sweden.

So what can you tell about this gearbox ? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/201843969618

Post 810517 by Dangerous Dave on 2017-03-14 23:21:00

The cross reference comes back as 8252344, seems to only be linked with the D5244T4 in the XC70 so probably the M66E XC box with the 4.53:1 final drive Looks like the M66 box with the 4.00 fd ratio was also used in the S40/V50 T5 AWD. The PN is 8252157 or 9482340 (or 9482368) the sticker should have '366R 7002' on it.

So, from all the imformation above, my v70 awd has a B5254T2 engine with a M58L gearbox which has a 4 to 1 final drive. The equivalent M66 gearbox would be M66E AWD from a D5244T ?

this may be a daft question, but why are you so worried about the final drive, as long as the angle gear matches the rear diff, the gearbox fd is not an issue, just a personal choice for cruising in top or for close rapid acceleration in the lower gears

So to save a ball ache I thought I'd keep the final drive on the m66 the same as the m58. But I did come across a thread on VS http://volvospeed.com/vs_forum/topic/104900-rear-drive-ratio-for-99-v70r/

here's the label from my m66 awd and shows clearly 3.77:1 Image2017-03-15_01-05-09 by moleadrian, on Flickr

That's a s60r m66 which is the only box that volvo put the final drive ratio on.
That's a s60r m66 which is the only box that volvo put the final drive ratio on.
It would have been nice if they'd made all the other labels that clear on what the final drive is.

Rob I have used the part no. of the box you put up and done some checking and found a foreign supplier with one for sale which they list the engine code for and checking back with the info Harvey put up an engine code of D5244T4 and an M66awd gives the result of 4.00:1 final drive.....I hope that's right and answers your question, anyone else able the verify that ??? https://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=7&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0ahUKEwj__ba_3djSAhUHjFQKHZtsBIUQFghSMAY&url=http%3A%2F%2Fen.bildelsbasen.se%2F%3Flink%3Dlist%26searchmode%3D3%26query%3D9482372&usg=AFQjCNFij8kjrl2itfQfpl-gN2vNL8adfw&sig2=PusyiF9pZvB9AC7oCcCDdA Image

If it is from an XC70 I'd say it was the 4.53:1 FD

I am about to make a transplantation of M66 from P2 XC70 to my P80 AWD V70. I've sourced 2 gearboxes. They both come from 2005 XC70 D5 6-gear manual cars. I believe both have 4.53:1 final drive as they are from XC, not regular AWD. On of them (9482342) has second code 366R 7002 DA, while other (9482372) has 566R 7002 BB Is there any logic in those designations? Are those bearboxes identical or there is some difference? Thanks a lot!
