Pissed off with Cars at the moment

All I seem to be doing lately is working underneath cars, I had my daughters Laguna and My wife's Rover 75 MOTs a couple of weeks ago, Laguna needed a front spring, rear brake pipe and rear axle bushes, now none of these should have caused an issue and indeed the front spring and brake pipe went as planned, but the rear bushes I couldn't get out even with the proper removal tool, until I found that some turkey in the past had butchered them and actually tack welded them in top and bottom, so once I dremmeled the welds off all went ok. so onto the Rover, the list of failures was quite long, but all straightforward, apart from the cracked windscreen (which I hoped would pass) so that tipped it over the edge and will be broken for spares, Moving on I decided to roll the dice on a 2.0D Volvo V50 with a slightly suspect DMF to replace the Rover (to be honest, it seemed fine to me but I thought that if the wife can use it till the summer holidays I'd get it done then) alas, it didn't last 100 miles before it spat it's dummy out, so that's a job for this week (clutch kit and Luk flywheel ordered and should be with me tomorrow), so today I thought I'd sort out the exhaust leak on the T-5R, Jacked the car up and onto axle stands and what greets me, but a bloody broken rear anti-roll bar, to go along with the already snapped front one, so god only knows when I'll ever get back to working on the T-10.. Rant Over.

Rant appreciated. It's nice to know someone else is currently having similar feelings of angst against all things mechanical. I feel like all I do atm in my limited spare time is maintain the Bloody fleet. Admittedly it's my own fault for owning too many cars - but in my defense I've never scrimped on proactive maintenance, always used oem parts & use Mr Williams for tasks above my spanner skill level. Yet the bloody things keep breaking. With tedious repetition. Feel like I'm painting the forth bridge.
Hey Ho.....I'm sure I'll get my reward in the next life. So long as the higher powers also love Swedish automobiles!
Don't let it get you down fella. We're all waiting for the next evolution of the T-10k, so keep a stiff upper lip
Cheers, Morgan

I feel your pain Colin.
I have been under the Green one today to remove the propshaft as the power is too much for the AWD system to cope and the (new) clutch has started slip so I've had to turn the boost down. Whilst I was under there I started making a list of all the things that are heading towards needing overhaul/protection due to its age and the list is endless.
Plus it failed the MOT back in March (only a couple of little things) I didn't bother insuring it as the premiums have gone up and now we're half way through the year and it doesn't seem worth insuring it for the little bit of use it is going to get.
And then when I tried to start it today the alarm siren kept randomly going off whenever the ignition was turned on/engine started so I've got to chase that gremlin down now.
On top of that the Blue one is getting old too.
Why do we bother?

Update time, the dramas continue, the clutch change on the V50 went without any issues :), but things have gone down hill again over the last couple of days, Starter motor went on the T-5R a couple of days ago, so I swapped it for another one I had in the workshop (I had a nagging feeling I'd taken it off for a reason) and, yesterday it left me stranded outside a customers house, I had to walk home about 3 miles, took a starter motor off the front engine of the T-10 then waited for the wife to get home to give me a lift back to the car and swap the motor.
Two dead starters
Then at 6:45 this morning off my wife to tell me she's stuck on the side of the M54 with a blow out, so Off I go to change the wheel, she wasn't kidding.

sorry to here your still having troubles, I have put a starter to on side for you and will drop it over later this week Colin, glad Carolines ok, a blow out is no fun especially on a motorway and that wheel is a real mess, I do hope you can get your supplier to replace it easily...;)

Bloody cars mate, at least starter motors are pretty cheap these days.

Bad times, Colin. Think we can all feel your pain :(
I'm in much the same boat.
What little spare time I have, I seem to be under one car or another, wielding the spanners and swearing. It's rapidly turning from a hobby to a chore.
I'm giving serious thought lately to selling up and buying something nearly new with a warranty so I don't have to bother.
Despite repeated threats of fireballing it, the XC90 still pushes it's luck.
There was the debarcle with the voltage regulator, now it's eaten a front outer CV joint. Probably got damaged when smacking the driveshaft out of the hub.
Also has now kindly asked for new reluctor rings up front.
The workbus' fuel pump has sprung a leak, that's my own fault though, obviously, for trying to set the injection quantity that's probably been wrong for 300k miles.
The S70 needs a load of work. I have a pile of parts waiting to go on, just no bloody time.
All this in between dodging snipes from my mother in law about be being a ££££ father because I never spend any time with my daughter.
Joy.
Keep at it Col. Don't let the b4stards grind you down!

feeling this also atm - working in UAE, summertime & the AC doesn't work in my new to me, gayer-than-Erasure Jeep. Not enough time to play with cars anymore!
Glad the Mrs is OK looking at that wheel

She seemed to handle it pretty well. You must have tought her well.
My missus would have probably turned the radio up and carried on to her destination, then called me claiming it had only just happened.
Was it front or rear?

It was the front nearside, but to add salt to the wound, some pikey £££££££s in a lhd foreign registered van nicked the wheel from the front of my house yesterday.

Yeah, saw that and commented. B4st4rds.
Well from the looks of it, Caroline did well with it being a front. Many would over-correct.
Could have been worse Matey :)

Friggin hell mate, that;s ridiculous, I wonder where machine mart would stand legally if you'd actually still been under there.

You been speaking to Captain Combover?
You won't have seen his comments on FB but that's what he said, funnily enough!

Glad it done now not when you were changing the alternator.

I was underneath, waggling the prop, trying to figure out a rumbling noise.
Heard a creaking from that b4stard and got my arse out of there quickly![/QUOTE]
Jesus Christ! That's my worst nightmare!
Glad you're ok man. Thankfully we aren't finding out what the legalities of this situation would be.

Aye. Was a bit close.
Over on the VT Facebook page there's loads of people pretty much saying it's my own fault for using a two-tonne (per pair) stand, fair enough comment I suppose.
Should still have taken it though, most weight it would have been holding would be about 8-900kg.
Theoretically, a stand with a SAFE working load should take a little more than stated too.
Not about to test that theory though.
Post 812264 by Dangerous Dave on 2017-06-05 00:34:37
Wow, thats crazy! Glad you got out before it gave way :B_thumb:
You can never trust those things, rigid ones may be bulky but at least they haven't got holes in the important bits :)

Aye.

I agree with that theory, it would not be taking its full load with the other wheels on the ground and as you say there is meant to be a built in safety factor above and beyond the stands safe working load, glad you weren't under there when she went.
Post 812276 by Doingitsideways on 2017-06-05 15:20:46
Exactly.
Seen countless 1 ton Hiabs lift a bulk bag of soaking wet sand - far heavier than the 1 ton when bagged dry.

Holy crap - you is one lucky bar-steward. It frightens the willies out of me ever going under a car, so I always stick a wheel under so if it drops there is always head (or chest or other bodypart) space under it.
From now one I am going to be religious about that.
You seriously need to be going for the throat with MM on this - not just for you, but for someone else who you may just save from being made into orphans or widows. Dont let it lie. You may even need to get onto trading standards.
(p.s bet they were welded up by some ...ers in a LHD van...somehwere in this world)
