[QUOTE=MacXC60T5;815798]Heard on the grapevine that due to lack of support the Volvo Owners Club Forum is to Fold.[/QUOTE] That's worrying, FB is to blame for a lot of the drop in posting on the forums, sad really as the forums are where the detail is, FB pages don't really have any useful information on builds, projects etc, unlike here for instance.
It's been on the cards for some time, they're still using the same forum layout as the one vpc binned several years ago. I've not been on there for ages, too much political crap for my liking.

Whether people personally like either it's layout or what goes on in it. It'll be a very sad loss with a lot of very useful technical info/help lost forever if it does fold so for me I hope it doesn't. I would have thought with the support of members subscriptions if anything they should fold their magazine in favour of the web presence with the latter being much more important today. I am a member btw although I don't think the majority appreciated me modding a 1980 244 or at least i got that impression.

You'll have to click on the link as the forum software keeps telling me it's an invalid file type when I try to upload from Flickr

The easiest way to share a flickr photo on to a vpc post,is to click on the picture in flickr, untill the share options appear in the bottom right hand corner of the screen and then click the share arrow. This opens another box on top of the current photo, here you can select bbcode from the bar at the top of the box and then copy the highlighted text. You can then paste this directly into the forum post box and bingo, as soon as you post it or go advanced your picture should appear, hope that helps.

Well that's my experience anyway. I'm sure there are avid FB users on here that'll tell me it's easy and I just have to adjust a few settings etc. Well that may well be the case if you spend half your life on FB and can put up with your phone constantly beeping with crappy status updates etc. I don't like it and I can't bare to be on FB for more than 5 minutes, unlike this forum, where I could comfortably spend a few hours. Forums are simple to navigate and stuff is easy to find without all the dross and crap that you have to wade through on FB. I've been here since it was T5.co.uk and I'm sure the current owners don't want to go down this road but If I had to pay a small subscription to VPC then I would, rather than go on FB for free! I noticed about 6 months ago this forum became awfully quiet.....but just recently it's become busier! Which is great. keep up the great posts ppl and lets keep this forum alive! :B_thumb:
I agree. Being of the 'old school' as it were, I do prefer forums more so as yes, it's much easier to navigate around and also as has been said, find old posts and such like plus one huge benefit is that forums require a bit more effort to access and use, thus it tends to encourage certain types not to bother... and whilst Facebook is great for many things, for me it's just far too accessible and thus it just gets bombarded with so much stuff that the decent content just gets overshadowed and that's very frustrating. I hope that there is a shift back towards the forums...granted, I've not used posted much of late on any forums but I do find myself reverting back for the technical stuff and also the build threads, which make for far more enjoyable reading than sifting through countless posts on Facebook, trying to ignore the usual drivel that is posted, arguing over the value of X or Y car or those who have little knowledge of the subject matter but as it's accessible and easy, post up their opinions regardless... The last point may be deemed ironic but hey! Cheers
Facebook is good for throw away content, it requires less effort to use. Forums are good for producing quality content but it requires more effort to use. Of course, there are more speciality sites which do a good mix between the two. As for charging for use of this forum, there's no real need, some work needs to be done because of impending changes to the law but being a relatively low traffic site of like minded people, the day to day really isn't that much of a hassle. We will try to keep the site around for as long as people wish to use it, if the Volvo scene wasn't on an overall downward trend we would be continuing development to aid bridging the gap between Facebook and forums in terms of effort people need to invest........the only challenges for the future of the site is either changes in regulation or increases in day to day hassles, not financial :) Sent from my SM-T813 using Tapatalk
