Diesel leak/ loss of power

My 'new' V70 has been doing great into our second year flew thru the MOT with no advisories and runs like a Swiss watch. I changed the oil and filters two day ago and noticed a strong smell of raw Diesel under the bonnet? I lifted off the engine cover and sure enough, across the top of the cylinder head was a pool of fresh diesel! I mopped it up and went for a spin and checked again when i returned home and it was back so a clear leak. Ran the engine for a while and checked with a torch but unable to see WHERE the leak is. Obviously an injector due to its location but not even a drip when running under pressure. My only suspicion was the usual grime around all the injectors except pot 4. But close examination with a magnifier and still no obvious signs. So I had to leave it for 4 days as my night duty shift was starting the next day, decided to have a look on my rest days. My colleague at work with a Beemer said he had exactly the same and it was the injector seal, he bought some sort of tool to clean the seats - fitted new seal all good. BUT This brings me the second part of the problem, tonight on my way to work I had to overtake sharpish to avoid a 'BANK HOLIDAY MUPPET' with a pink hair rinse about 80 - who probably only drives a few times a year straight off the slip road into lane 2 doing about 40 MPH ! I accelerated and I picked up speed, but as I got into the next lane I lost most of my power! I managed to get back to the nearside lane expecting limp mode/ warning stop engine or other lights and to head for the shoulder - but all I got was 'ENGINE SERVICE REQUIRED' lit up on the DIMS. I cleared this and it didnt appear again, I was about a mile from work so took it easy but I decided to see if I WAS in limp mode, accelerated and she picked up speed but SLOWLY. Trying different throttle settings she seemed 'back to normal' but I noticed a slight hunt in revs when I stopped at traffic lights? Felt initially that I had lost boost but not ONE warning light came on? I did notice last night through my right foot 'something not right' like uneven firing? Could this be that the leaking cylinder has thrown up a compression fault on the guilty cylinder/injector which spiked the ECU momentarily? Or something else. Sadly my VIDA laptop seems to have seen better days so I have no fault analyser now. Over to you knowledgeable experts :) (someone sent me a link to the latest EOBD2 BLUETOOTH a year or so back -but sadly I lost that link. If it was you please send me a link). I bought a cheap chinky one today but unsure how good it will be

UPDATE during my supper break popped out to the car she started and idled fine plugged in the ODB2 Kenobi got NO CURRENT FAULT BUT...................... 3 FAULTS 'PENDING' 0401 - EGR INSUFFICIANT RECIRC 0244 - WASTEGATE ACTUATOR 0571 - CRUISE CONTROL BRAKE PEDAL SENSOR SYSTEM 'A' now I KNOW the cruise is fine as I checked it when i had 'the incident so the other 2 need investigating. I did suspect a blocked EGR as the car was previously owned by a disabled lady who never drove it faster than 40 ish to Tescos - coked up? (the EGR not the lady) comments please?

You could try a leak down test on the injectors. And if you have Vida check the fuel correction value in advanced ECM menu. This will quickly let you know if you have a faulty injector.

It was very old and involved changing the date on the laptop to tell it its 2004 to get it running now it wont play anymore :wallbash::wallbash: What does this test involve please?

I recently had a failing injector. It felt like the engine was chugging a bit and felt like a misfire at times. The car didn’t throw any fault codes. So I researched the issue and someone suggested to check this. The fuel correction value has to be + or - 3mm. As you can see from the readings below mine was 4. I bought a second hand injector from an xc90 and it cured the issue. By all means check your EGR as well. Remove the intake pipe which goes into the intake manifold and check it isn’t clogged up! Cheers Bud. Planning to crack open the EGR as soon as I finish my ast night shift. However NOW the lovely hot dry weather looks like it will be gone so Ill be working under my pop up gazebo over the bonnet !!
