done my oil change at the weekend everything went fine.....today or lass informed me it was making a strange noise...ive checked it and its a tappity sound on start up..checked oil and its still at same level, checked under car and there is no signs of any leaks/oil on ground...goes after about 1 minute from start up...any ideas!!!!
What oil did you use??
Don't worry too much. Think its down to the oil you've put in.
it was mobil fully synthetic...it said on the container it was for turbo engines..possitive it was something 40??..bin men have been today so its gone
Should be a 10w/40; imo, 0w is too thin. Whitey
Aye that'll be it.....too thin and it's still cold weather :( needs to be 5w or 10w, preferably Shell Ultra Helix or similar.
What do we rekon to Halfords own brand synthetic oil(5 40w), I've just put this into my car.
Yeah, that'll do the trick nicely. I've shelled out for Redline 10w/40 - should last me 15k miles - still going to keep an eye on it though, when I change the filters. Chris

Yup, hydraulic tappets oozing down whilst the engine is off. Probably not going to damage anything so long as you don't rev the engine before they pump up again.
so do i change the oil again?...if so do i change the filter as well?...will it be ok till the weekend?..thanks for the help all aswell much appreciated
I had this happen to me with my old Jetta GTI 16v Changed from Mobil 1 to Castrol Magnatec and it shut up :nutkick:
every oil course ive been on they tell you it can go for something like 40k but we change it just to see nice clear oil!!!!!! wouldnt do it myself though. they can prove it first. esso have a 400k engine run fully syn from new from a golf which is still inside factory new spec for tolerencs in the headquarters.
