This fuel will be a waste of money unless the car is tuned to use it. Most turbo Jap imports will benefit from it, but most Euro cars will not unless they are specifically tuned for it. Adam.

Hi Adam My V70 R AWD runs ok on Ultimate 97 , better on Optimax and great on tesco`s 99 RON. The trend seems to be more RON more FUN. Is there a limit to RON Increase ,that will then make no difference ! I have noticed a good difference between Tesco 99 and Optimax to the point were I dont use the shell any more. Ps Tesco 99 ron is 99.9 pence at the mo , ouch. Cheers

:stupid: a litre?! Surely anyone who needs 102 RON knows about cars, and therefore knows that you can use additive way way cheaper than that. (which is presumably what theyve been doing until BP starting selling this stuff). Confused.

That's why some cars (but not all) will respond better to it due to this fuel altering the afr slightly, ie effectively leaning the mixture off. We've seen this affect when we tune the bike engined race cars that use an ethanol mix versus straight optimax. I still need to do some further tests to see exactly how the fuel effects the performace of stock and modified cars. The bottom line is this - if the ignition advance is running at the maximum preset value as set by the ECU and there is no knock, then higher RON will make no difference whatsoever. Adam.

to quote a mate of mine on a different site....
It would probably be better value just using Optimax or equivalent plus octane booster. For that price though I would hope it not only has a higher ron rating but also a higher calorific value and higher burn speed than normal petrol. Also not a single UK spec car or Jap (probably) for that matter will be mapped to utilise the ignition advance avaliable from using that fuel. I think it's pretty much a waste of time really, novel idea though.
Ethanol. Consider yourself warned or not as the case may be guys read the link and consider this the South Americans and the Aussies have been discussing this issue since about 2001 just punch into Google ethanol fuel. Adam's point is very valid so read and digest if you wish. http://technology.guardian.co.uk/weekly/story/0,,1710219,00.html It might also explain why a few road going water injection cars might not be performing as expected, just an observation no data back up lol. Having said this I still think my old girl goes well on a 5% mix and the very small reduction in mpg is not bad considering the power gain and the lower operating temps.

wotever the RON the tax on any kind of fuel will still persecute the road user. 17.5% vat on a product thats already 75% tax???!!!!! whatevet we use the robbing bas**rds will still take all they can to sponsor rediculous accountancy issues. the day the public really make a stand on tax is the day the government will back down. Im a smoker. Fags are 70% tax. all the smokers stop tomorow, Next day, watch your income tax go up to cover the loss. Diesel cars, more miles per MPG? true, but more pennies per litre. If i woke up to reality i wouldnt drive a Volvo. TAX the curse of the driver. (dont get me started on the road versions of ATM's. name?.....speed cameras.) one way or another we will all pay. (TO MUCH!!!)

My car seems to operate better on Optiplop than Tescos stuff (the latter feeling more "raw" at WOT) I, myself, operate better on Guinness and Stella, than coffee and tea or squash, mind you my wife says that if I leave my nasal dump valve running all night again she will shove an !!!"orange stick though my ear into my brain to see if she can turn it off!"....what ever that means?????, all I know is that she has pre-empted my nocturnal rumblings and is on the sofa bed downstairs as we type. Blisfull slumber awaits..............
